Let's get together

Ha ha ha I am not a traveller other than armchair ...I agree with you that this is such an amazing place where you can just pop in for a cyber cuppa and chat ...look at someone's photos and just have so much fun.I have learned so much here and met so many lovely people ...ha ha ha I didn't mean that I am lonely ...too much mischief to get into for that ,just would have loved to have been there too! Hubby does not drive so I am limited as to where I can go because he is in business and so needs me around as a taxi :)
One day if he ever retires maybe I can travel.Up till then it's daves garden for travelling.
Here 77 have a cuppa ...hugs chrissy

Hi.

Now here's an idea: why not organize a Dave's Garden cruise. I could coordinate all the arrangements. Let's say 7 days on one of Norwegian Cruise Lines' most recent ships to the caribbean. I could shop for a good price on a cruise some time in 2008 if enough people are interested. I have connections. Oh, this could be so much fun!

Sylvain.

It's currently 59 degrees Farenheit in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Sylvain.

86F in beautiful Sydney rural outskirts Australia :)

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful picture Chrissy!

Currently 59F 78% humidity! High 79F tomorrow with scattered Thunderstorms....hmmmm maybe I won't have to water afterall.

Cruises are nice, but not for me! No Thank You!!!!!!! Y'all go and have a good time!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah we're definately headed for the cool season, although it's been very mild. 80F tomorrow, but looks like we may break the dry season spell.. it's been dry since september, but no complaints after the monsoon summer we had.

I say we organize a DG expedition to Costa Rica! the ideas are flooding everywhere!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Count me in for a trip to Costa Rica - we have friends who have University grants (he to study the fauna, and she to study the flora) there and they tell us it is one of the most beautiful areas in the world. Hum...I better pack water, it's a looooong way for us!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm game for anything. You tell where and when. Have stayed too close to the home fires way too long. Just have to keep the bottom line in mind. Not independently wealthy.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Did I hear of plans for a vacation away from our winter days? LOL, may I join in on the planning phase. Hi everyone, I'm tropical at heart, love it here in the USA, but long for tropical getaway. :-)
Kim

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Convention, Expo, conference, camp, cruise, expedition? No matter the name or place, let me know. I want to go.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Guys, I am not independently wealthy either. I am always looking at the bottom line.

For example, I have found something on the Norwegian Sun (Norwegian Cruise Lines) this morning. Here's a picture of her. That's a delightful mid-sized ship. We have sailed on that ship twice already. They sail from Miami on Feb. 23/08 for 7 nights, visiting Belize City (Belize), Roatan Island (Honduras), Costa Maya (Mexico), and their private island in the Bahamas.

The price per person is $483 for an inside cabin. Price includes port taxes and government fees. If enough people are interested, I'll try to have them waive the $25 booking charges per cabin. I can't promise anything on that one but I can tell you that I'll do my best.

What's not included are expenses on board such as alcoholic beverages, wines, sodas, souvenirs, bingo, shore excursions, spa treatments and gambling. Gratuities are also extra and typically amount to to $10/day/person or $140 for2 people staying in the same stateroom.

Does that help?

Definitely helps, Sylvain. I was assuming much more. Still would have to be something planned in advance for a lot of us...me included. Is this one of those cruises where it is necessary to have a particular wardrobe on hand in order to dine on particular nights? Since Mike retired, our wardrobe has sort of dwindled.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Wow, wow, a week cruise for the price. But then we have to travel from where we're to Fla....
For a short noticed, how about the Keys West Fla.? A few of us were thinking of the Keys maybe more of us would join in and book a nice place there for DG's group?
Kim

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I figured out a long time ago that the reason Sylvain lives where he does is the close proximity to the cruises. Am I correct, Sylvain? Think it is pretty smart.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

We stayed in Key west 10 days ago: $130/night for the room alone at the Comfort Inn. It was comfortable, it was clean, the breakfast was good and included in the price of the room. Everything else was extra. One night, my grouper dinner with crab sauce cost me $38.00, I can't remember what Gail had but it was around that amount, too. It works out to $69/person times 2 = $138/day, nine meals and snacks a day included plus room service, plus great shows and entertainers and pampering around the clock included in the price.

February is 3 months from now. There are ships leaving all the time at that price. If it's too soon, we can look later. It's just that for anyone who has to suffer through winter climate, it cuts the winter in two. I'm just throwing ideas around here. It costs nothing to dream. I get absolutely no rebates of commissions on this.

I chose Norwegian Cruise Lines because they have Freestyle cruising. That means that you don't have to buy a whole new wardrobe to travel with them. I don't even pack a sports jacket on NCL. A pair of dress pants, and a golf shirt along with dress shoes is all you need to go to the captain's evening. For ladies, a skirt, slacks and a blouse and you're in business. NCL calls this resort chic and it's a great dress code. It also makes your luggage lighter.

We moved here because of my wife's arthritis and because we already owned the condo but I won't deny that being close to the cruise ports is also a definite advantage. We can take the car on Saturday afternoon once in a while, drive either to Miami or Fort Lauderdale and watch the ships sail. We like that.

And now, for something completely different: this is a sky vine. I am told it will cover your house completely if you don't keep it in check.

Take care, all.

Sylvain,
Lovely, lovely, we all need to get together and sort it through on this one....I do love the idea of the cruise some time in the future....thanks for sharing those wonderful info. with us.

Ah, is your Blue Sky Vine hardy all winter there? Incidentally I grow those here in my zone, and I'm in the process of taking it down for the winter.....
Kim

What stunning photos!
Thanks for the peek :)

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Great pics!! Love the sky vine!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Syl, where could I get a skyvine? Wouldn't mind covering my house with such beauty.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

The sky vine was photographed at Pine Hammock in Miami. It grows year-round here in zone 10-B and in zone 11 also. I don't know about higher up North.

Sylvain.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

For those of us south from where I'm....we do have a good reason to enjoy this BSV as herbacious perennial. Take a look everyone. Enjoy.

Followed your thread Polar Bear, lovely pics - you must have a bazillion in your album - do you keep them on disk or do you use one of those photo storage sites? Inquiring minds want to know!

Beware the Sky vine if you live in a place like ours! One of my neighbors has one that runs down the chain link fence on the side of their property which is at least 100 feet long, it is also scrambling through and over the trees. A most beautiful sight in flower, but so invasive for us!

Loved your link, Lily, what a collection - beautiful!

Aloha
