Today's Weather in Your Garden 5

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

45 here but winds up to 37 MPH from the northwest, exactly where I have to be to move daylilies to better spots.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - chilly Al. Have you dug all the tubers yet? 40 and clear here. Low was 31. Tomorrow morning should be the first real freeze - 25-ish. I'll be draining the hoses and turning off the outside water today.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Too late here.....this is the top of the grill taken 10 miuntes ago.

And off the back deck which was very colorful a few weeks ago, now looks like snow!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Heaviest frost yet this am. Sunny and 28 degrees now, 24 when I first checked earlier. Nice frost shots pixie, but make ya want to go brrrrr.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cute pic Celeste!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great shots but love the second one, Celeste, and how the golden green leaves show up.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

42 degrees right now mid-Cape, supposed to go up to 54 (I'm waiting for that to finish the dahlias) with 31 degrees forecast for tonight. . . first frost so far. Winds WNW at 11 mph, gusting to 17 mph. barometer 29.96, 61% humidity. No rain in the forecast till maybe Friday--got almost 1/2 inch yesterday.

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

We got 1.75 inches yesterday! Nice and sunny today though.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Brrrrrr!! Eleanor

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very chilly today. Never out of the mid-40's and very windy. First time it actually feels like Fall!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Whoa, Celeste.........that looks really wintry! Clever grill shot and the deck view says it all!! You guys are putting up some pretty low temps.......sounds like Al gets the prize! At the moment it's 80 here....that seems to be the popular number on my thermometer in the late afternoon. I thought today was supposed to be a cold snap. The morning was awesome. Don't shoot me when I say I sort of miss the chilly weather up there! At least it was nice sleeping weather last night.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We have all of 47 with strong winds. Three hours out there was enough but I did get daylilies moved and lettuce covered.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

That's a superfrost Celeste. We haven't had much frost because it has been really dry the last 3 weeks.

Victor - No I'm still working in the dahlias. They are fine in the ground for a week to 10 days yet if needed.

this one is unhappy

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

If that's unhappy then I have a few seriously depressed dahlias, some trying to let go of that last gasp and some needing CPR.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dahlia Prozac??

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Temp 38.3°, Baro 29.97↑, Rh 56%, Wind WNW 3.0 mph, Dp 24.1°

Mostly sunny with winds to 13mph and scattered low cumulus clouds.

Moisture from the ground escaping to meet the cold dry northern winds. Expected to create cloud cover over the next few days trapping moist damp air. Along with declining temps I should have frequent frost in am very soon. Baro still slightly high for a fall pattern.

As far as I'm concerned, 'frequent frost' can take a flying leap!

Yesterday's frost was so heavy that it sparkled when the sun came up. It looked pretty, but like the frost on Celeste's BBQ, it's just a taste of what's to be.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

The thermometer says it's 25* outside this morning. I can't see yet if there's frost, but I'm betting that there is!!

Today is supposed to be one of the cooler days this week, with the temperatures barely making it into the 40s in my neck of the woods. It's a good thing that I move my laptop station to a southerly-facing window this time of year!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Laptop station? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a laptop, kinda sorta? Candyce, WHAT are you doing awake?!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

At 6am it was 24 frosty degrees! Started the car before taking my daughter to school-I know I should just scrape the windows and save the gas but it was brrrrr!
One of my rose bushes had two rose buds just starting to open, now they are frozen in time. I really need to dig up my dahlias, too. Guess I'll fire up the hot cocoa and get moving!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oooohhhhh!!!!!! Hot cocoa!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It took a long hot soak in the tub, with all jets on high, to warm up my feet after only three hours yesterday.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Was about 28 this morning but not cold enough long enough to freeze the pond at all. About 40 and calm now.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Sunny and 45 so I'll head out now. No winds here either, happily.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I'd better not say anything......I'm feeling like this is one thread where you guys may just prefer I keep my info to myself.........LOL

Yes Louise - feels warmer already.
I would miss the winter, not the driving part, but how pretty fresh snow looks.

I agree with the pretty fresh snow BUT after that it gets cold, dingy and some spots yellow.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Second that, and don't forget, don't eat yellow snow!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I love the snow but it can wait until Christmas Eve.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes VG, I have the entire Earth at my fingertips! It updates real time, shows the terminator anywhere on Earth.
