Today's Weather in Your Garden 5
Michael - Bon appetit!
Jen - absolutely, positively too funny! Thanks for a good laugh!
There's a flavor I'd never had before that was divine: Caramel Cone!
I'm eating at pirl's house next weekend!
(not really, but oh my goodness! What great food!!)
No frost last night - hooray!!
The temperature right now is 38* with a pretty good breeze! There are a few gusts, which will only get larger as NOEL approaches. I haven't seen the weather on TV yet to see if NOEL has changed course.
Humidity is high at around 90%
The high temp for today might get up as far as 44*
(Talk about being damp and chilly)!
No rain yet, but will later this afternoon
Sunrise: 7:26

Perfect day to play in the garden.
Lucky you, Michael!!
We will have some of the wind, and a lot of the raindrops associated with NOEL.
I'll think of you though, out in your garden puttering away while I count the raindrops.
Rain is good ... at least your plant will be happy. Perfect time for you to start planning next year's garden projects.
Temp. 47
Humidity 58
Dewpoint 33
Very high surf warnings go through to Sunday at 5 PM.
Should be great driftwood hunting by Monday! One of the beaches gets more of it than the others so I'll be out there looking!
Oh, pirl! I used to love hunting for driftwood after a storm when I lived closer to the ocean. Such memories you have brought back for me ... the smells and the sights and the sounds!!
And Michael ... we've been planning next year all THIS year - LOL!!!
Funny ... I just started redoing several of my gardens ... not fond of the previous owner's choices ... and the whole time I was thinking about what I can do next year and where can I start new gardens. Gardening is such a rewarding hobby.
Happy hunting pirl ... would love to be closer to a beach -- nearest one is 2 hour drive.
The smells is right! I love visiting the beaches and the scent is wonderful - so are the personalities of each beach. I love feeding the sea gulls and watching their antics, too.
I agree, Candyce, about the planning: it's a constant way of thinking.
Overcast with a steady breeze but no rain yet. Hoping the electricity stays on. Worst of it noon to eleven tonight. Don't forget to turn your clocks back tonight. Hope any one down the cape and islands gets through okay, batten down the hatches. :)
34 right now, not expected to go above 45 today. Humidity @ 70%.
This was the part I really could of done w/out reading:
" and much harsher conditions to eastern Long Island, southeastern New England and coastal Maine. New York City will experience gusty winds, possibly to 40 mph or higher at times, and even a shower tossed in. Parts of eastern Long Island and coastal areas of New England will experience a cold heavy rain and strong, possibly damaging winds. temperatures will be downright raw and chilly. Nantucket, Cape Cod and easternmost Maine could experience hurricane-force gusts."
Good luck to everyone in the affected areas!
edited because I have been sick all week and think it totally fried my brain.

Good day for shopping or staying in and bumming around the house.
Overcast
80% chance of rain
Hi: 51°F
Lo: 39°F
Current Temp: 48°F
Humidity: 71%
Wind Speed: N 20 MPH G 26
Barometer: 29.94 in.
Dewpoint: 39°F
Oh! Shopping!!!!
You are SO RIGHT, Anita!
Coastal flood warning, flood watch, high wind warning.
Whoa, this must be a a Nor'Easter! (Still a newbie Californian at this.)
Light, continuous rain so far this morning, NE winds are 25 mph, gusting to 35 mph; expected to have sustained winds of 35-45 pmh this afternoon, gusting in the 65-85 pmh range. 50 degrees F currently, barometer 29.93 and falling, dewpoint 47 degrees F.
I've tucked my potted plants into a corner of the deck, and taken down the bird feeders and bird baths. Trying to batten. Trees are really tossing.
Good luck to the other folks in Noel's swath!!
Yep!
Emily, this is an official Nor'Easter. Thankfully, it's the kind without snow.
The tops of the trees are tossing here, too, Emily, but the dahlias at the tuteur aren't even moving.
The Cape is great in a storm: very exciting and quite dramatic. I can think of several restaurants there where I'd love to be watching the surf.
Stay safe, everyone.
It's in times like this that I get furious with neighbors who allow totally dead trees to stand! How irresponsible. They could easily crash down on passing cars with winds like we're having.
Keep safe, pirl.
Stay indoors.
44 and cloudy here. We should miss all the Noel effect. Good luck to everyone on LI and elsewhere that gets hit.
Raining here now too for about an hour or so. Wind is picking up a little every hour but not bad yet, a few gusts with a little muscle. Candyce you are right, could be much worse, could be snow. I can wait. High wind and localized flood warnings here too. Just keep the electricity on and I will be happy. Hold on everybody! :)
Thanks. I'll be planted at the photo contest today, hoping the electricity stays on and no wires come down.
Michael, we don't need anymore traffic you can just find yourself a nice lake somewhere!
(Just kidding!!)
weather is 50 and lightly raining it was windier yesterday.
Pirl, you are so right about the drama of a big storm here. At 3 pm here, winds are gusting to 52 mph, and still rising. . . heavy rain. . . a bit earlier today , DH and I decided to drive down to nearby Corporation Beach in Dennis to see what the fuss was about. HUGE waves, and a lot of other fools like us out to watch them! As we drove back I said "is this coastal flooding?" (water cascading over the road and up and over our windshield as we drove through it.)
Wow, the house is creaking and the trees look alive. I'm obsessing about some little Japanese Maples I planted out on Monday. . . didn't know about Mr. Noel showing up today.
You mean, they do all this with SNOW, too?
The rains are the most exciting and the beaches are the best places to watch them, as you found out. Our beaches get quite crowded with others watching, too.
Hi Michael! Glad you are enjoying getting into gardening. In the spring when you get your gardens up and flourishing, please remember to share some pics with us!
Arlene and Emily - how did you fare with Noel? I hope everyone's OK!
Today, it's low 80s and low humidity.......glorious and breezy. A/C turned off and windows all open with the fans freshening things for us! Sorry! LOL
Victor - how did the party go? Hope everyone was able to make it and your parents had a lovely time!
Still howling winds and some rain but less than an inch. Very cold out now, per DH and Harry, the dog.
What a huge difference between us DB!!!
DB, you
Oh, my anticipation of a good howling rain was dashed today. Some wind, not a drop of rain to be found. I didn't go to the beach to see the frothing action, my personal favorite, maybe next year!! (ps...not that I want to see destruction , just Mother Nature at her furious best)
Mother Nature at her furious best isn't cancer and nuclear bombs?
Carrie, didn't mean that at all, just weather, and not the Katrina kind.
Normal weather in this part of the Northeast -50/35. Starting to cut stuff down and getting ready to dig the dahlias.
Spectacular day today, sunny and 59. Actually took the convertible out for one last ride. Had to wear a sweater and a jacket, but it's Nov. 3rd!
Any photos of you with the convertible on your back?
al, don't you always dig the dahlias?
Al - what part of the northeast are you in?? I know, the Northeast Forum!! Eleanor
Oh I forgot the weather - cold and windy! Took a tantrum throwing toddler for a long stroller ride and then worked outside winterizing the garden and yard for the rest of the day. Eleanor again
Amy - yes the dahlias get dug. I'm starting to dig tomorrow and will be done next weekend I guess - about a 100 to do.
Al - my dahlias are still blooming - should i big digging them up anyway?
Good morning to all of my NEG family.
The time change has me up early (earlier than usual!), of course!
NOEL was not so grand as they had expected for my area.
After all, I am some 100 miles or so inland. While we did have
so really great wind gusts, they weren't at all damaging. And,
most importantly, we kept the power on. All in all, NOEL was
just a big blowhard for us. Thank goodness!!
This morning's walk with the dog was spectacular, showing off
millions of brilliant, crackling stars in a clear, crisp sky.
It was chilly though, at only about 30*. I could tell that the
humidity was a lot lower today than yesterday, and sure enough,
when I went to check, the humidity was just at 67%.
Right now, the sun is beginning to rise. The temp is still 30*,
and there's no wind. They say it may still be a bit breezy today.
It will be partly cloudy later with a possible high of 55*.
Sunrise is at 6:26 and sunset will be at 4:37 (ouch!!)
