Beth - I am just curious ... do the indoor blooms on your nils get as big as they would outside in the sunshine?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Yes, they are the same size. I only notice a reduction in size if I let the room get too cool (under 70 degrees)

Pink one from this weekend.

A real treat to see these gorgeous blooms this late in the year.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

It's neat how we are able to grow at different times across the country. It will be no time before the Florida people will be showing off their spring blooms!

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

Love the keiryu, Beth!

Very welcome pics, Beth, what with the sleety snow outside

Karen

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

We only get liquid snow :(

(Zone 7a)

Weather in a blender, huh?

Mesilla Park, NM

that's cute..lol. you get smoothies..

It gets lumpy in our balmiest month - 3/4" hail one June that stripped every young apple from our apple trees and shredded hostas as if giant, extraterrestrial slugs had been partying. Have never seen hail like that in winter here - go figure.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

We got a couple flakes falling this weekend, but of course they melt immediately when they hit the ground. DH comes in all excited yelling "It's snowing!"
Anybody living in a REAL snow zone would laugh!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

We've had a cooling of the temps so it's gotten a little quiet. hederacea still blooming here

This one (Ipomoea horsfalliae) is a very slow growing plant for me. It seems to have dormancy periods and I keep thinking it has died, then it comes back. I have not had any blooms yet...but they are an exotic color if I ever get any.

Beth, here's that old print of I. horsfalliae that you posted a while back so we can all whet our anticipation for this one's blooms - can't wait to see how they compare.

Very pretty. Is this a small blooming glory?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I just wonder how many years it will be before I see a bloom!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Here it is from the plantfiles blooming in Australia. It does look like a smaller bloom, but a lot of them.

Here are a couple for today. I'm not so excited about them setting seeds at this point. Every pod set means I need to wait a month for the seeds to mature before I can harvest and dump the plant. I want to get the grow room cleaned out and ready for spring!

Thanx Beth, It's a beauty, no matter the size.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I've been finding 3 or 4 of these every week in the recycle bin. They are a perfect size for growing a nil in! I just poke holes in the bottom and I'm not worried about using them, they were just secondary containment for shipping. Someone is using a lot of acid, though....I just hope they keep on using it up! I should go over to the trash to treasure forum on how to make them better looking.

It doesn't take much to make me happy....LOL!!

Just paint them verdigris. http://www.rustoleum.com/ColorGroup.asp?ddc=17&SBL=5

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Will it stick?

are those stainless steel or tin?

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Yes, it'll stick and it's waterproof. It's meant to stick to metal outdoors. I painted some outdoor metal tables some years ago, and they're still holding up through all the seasons. Not even a chip.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

They are stainless, really nice and thick.

i thought they might be stainless as they wouldnt react to acid as much as the tin would theyre nice containers

For what it is worth, Cairns is 16 degrees south of the equator. That is hot It is also where tourists go to see the great barrier reef. Frank

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Mine might grow a lot slower than in Cairns....I just hope to see a bloom someday!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

The containers were used to ship methacrylic acid so any metal that would be succeptible to acid leaks couldn't be used. They had to use stainless.
