It's Harper's Birthday!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I asked Admin a couple of times to post a warning regarding posting photos of family members - especially kids. Never received a response.

Dave, I thought you had to at least be a (non-subscribing) member to have access to the forums. That isn't so??

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Only some forums if I remember correctly. Not the address exchange- but as you said, there is still your city, we post identifying info and all DG members can't be wonderful...Just those that post on the NE forum.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Candyce, sometimes I think of posting as my "journal" ... but the best part is that I get to be transparent and share with you all... I have not made an entry in my journal for a long time.

Debi, I lost my dad in 99 and that was a turning point in my life. The last time we talked on the phone it was on my d-day and the last thing I said to him was " I love you dad... thanks for being so nice to me... are you going to tell me that you also looooove me????" and he just laughed and said, of course you know that... and of course I pested him until he actually said " I love you!" (my dad was not good with words!!!) and so I tell Victor and Alec every single day that I love them... and I did hug my mom today and told her that I love her... ah, did not say to my 2 sisters...oops...

oh, we are very fortunate people... and I love that we are still celebrating Harper!!!!

oh you guys ... wish I could hug all of you... because of you all, I have learned to love gardening... and care for nature...

do you have any idea of what I did all day? cleaned the garage/organized all seeds and gardening stuff... It was a huge job... but as I was doing it, I kept thinking of you guys and getting seeds ready so I can share it with whoever wants them... I will post a list of what I have...

but it rained alllllll day.... and I hope to get all the dahlias out and clean tomorrow....oh I love this... the gladiolas are dried and stored... ready for 2008!

nite nite everyone!

Kassia - thanks for sharing!! It is difficult to think that someone interested in gardening and taking care of the earth would want to harm children. But people who want to harm children are all over the place - even teachers have abused children. I guess they are lurking in all places and maybe even go where people feel comfortable and let their guard down - like a school classroom where children should be protected and DG!! Eleanor

Holy mackerel, Kassia! That's a ton of work you did yesterday!! Was it really damp and chilly while you were working. I can stand the cold and work, but I just can't stand it when the weather is damp and chilly - it's too raw for me, and my old bones start to ache.

So my hat's off to you, girl!! You rock!

Louise ~ thanks for the kind words.

Dave47 ~ perhaps Kassia and I SHOULD be a set!!
And thanks for the gentle reminders about keeping our beloved children protected.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice thoughts Kass. Today my dad is 80 and I appreciate every minute I am blessed with my parents.

Eleanor - a final word on this depressing subject - those people purposely seek out the places where we are comfortable. There are no safe places left - including the schools, as we see on the news all the time now.

Harper's birthday continues...

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Harper - I hope you are having a wonderful birthday. At this rate we are going to be celebrating until October 12, 2008. I think that is great to celebrate every day that we are alive. I'm sending you a wish to continue to have a fantastic year!!!! Eleanor

This has become a chain-letter thread. Keeping it alive keeps Harper at 39. She can be a female Dorian Gray.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Just not the gray part for Harper, please.

Happy on-the-way-to-your-next-birthday!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Have we ever kept a 'Happy Birthday to ... ' thread going this long?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds like a challenge to me.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm so glad you took it that way.
Game on!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

This is the best thread ever! And it's MINE!! How could I be so blessed with friends like you all here? Thank you for the wonderful birthday wishes. Thank you for your compliments on my new bedroom and chair, too! Thank you for reminders to keep us safe. Thank you for being so grateful for life!! I love you guys.

I have news for everyone that I've been keeping to myself for quite some time now, but now seems like an appropriate time to tell. I'm getting a divorce. This is good news. Obviously I won't go into details, but I want to express how deeply grateful I am for my life, my happiness, and my wonderful friends virtual and tangible.

You guys are the best!!

Harper

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

harper - I'm happy for you and hope for the best in your divorce. Eleanor

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I wish only the best for you Harper. These things are always difficult but you deserve to be happy. Best wishes on opening a new chapter in your life! And now you're 39 forever to boot.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Harper - You know I wish you the best of everything, now and always.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Happy New Day to Come in your life, Harper! Let's throw you in as part of the Great Gal set with Kassia and Candyce. I think I heard Victor and Al thinking that they'd be in favor of a good "trois" situation..........not that there's anything wrong with it!!! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

If the Al is Alice, I might entertain the idea.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Blame Louise - she's the one starting trouble!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Look in the mirror, Victor! I just hope one of your children has the same spark as you do.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh My, Victor! I guess you could say I asked for that!!! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are you referring to my stove photo, Pirl??

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Harper, Congratulations on having made a major decision. I wish you strength and clarity as you go forward and, of course, my support is always there.
love,
dave

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No, Victor, your sense of humor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Pirl. My five year old says the funniest things without realizing it. After celebrating my father's 80th birthday last night, he asked me today if Papa is 90 today!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Kids can be so funny!

When my son walked down the aisle, boys on one side and girls on the other side, to receive his first Holy Communion he spotted me at the side of the aisle and asked:
Do I have to marry this one?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That is hilarious! My wife was recently talking to our little guy, saying she was 41 but that she was a kid at heart. His response? 'Are you kidding? Just look at yourself!'

Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Harper,
I wish you the best. I hope that everything goes smoothly for you, and your son.

Arlene,
That's so cute!

Loretta

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

How funny, Victor!

Loretta - Kevin was always saying something hysterical. I just wish I could remember more of them.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Arlene and Victor - how cute to hear those wonderful gems from the kids!!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Harper my dear... I agree with everyone... I wish the best for you as you walk through this hard situation... peace and strenght my friend... we are here for you...

ha... you can join Candice and I... you are in good company!!!!! hey, we could plan a divorce shower for you... Zuzu did that to one of her friends... I love the idea...

Oh, guys I am way more tired today... I had to dig up the dahlias... holly cow! I planted them way too deep and it took forever to pull them out... and I broke a lot of tubers :(
after digging it all, I just washed them and I was so tired that I quited! my garden still such a mess... oh, I still have a lot of gardening left to do!!!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You did a major job today, Kassia! Good work!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - I would have busted my tubers trying to do all that. This is one reason why Dahlias don't really appeal to me, unless treated as annuals. I believe planting is like burying someone - a one-shot deal. Don't want to be exhuming plants nor people! Take a good hot bath, Kass - you've earned it.

Like the divorce shower idea. Does she have to give the wedding shower gifts back at it??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We can give her half of a set of towels: HERS

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Pirl... I am paying the price now... even the gluteus maximus muscles are hurting right now!!!

I am so amazed of how much they grew! and they all started from small tubers.... wow... what a miracle!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Your gluteus maximus started as a small tuber? How much has it grown?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Dave!!!
