I remember when you d-mailed me, Victor, about putting photos of the kiddos on this forum. I really appreciate that you did that. But, there are some days that I still have to stop myself, 'cause they are just sooooo cute!!
It's Harper's Birthday!!
I feel the same way, Candyce, and I'm thankful my grand kids don't live too close for comfort but still seldom post those great photos I'd like everyone to see. Some things are safest not being publicized.
And, yes! We will do anything to keep our grands as safe as possible!!
We get too comfy here but you have to consider the following. There are over 330,000 DG members now! Statistically, there just have to be some people who are not good.
Also, look at the top of any thread and see how many more views there than posts. Many 'lurkers'. I don't even like that term. I'd rather see people who read but don't post referred to as 'viewers' since lurker has such a negative implication. Anyway, the point is there are many 'outsiders' looking in. This is a public forum.
Lastly, I have noticed myself how people can innocently reference a nearby point of interest or even post a pic that they don't realize shows their house number. Combine this with the town name and you're just supplying them with all the info they need. Hate to be scary or alarmist, but that is today's world.
You couldn't possibly be termed an alarmist when we read about it in the news or hear about it on TV as often as we do, Victor.
Around here, and maybe in other places as well, the school bus driver will not allow a child in grammar school (or at least the first few grades) off the bus unless a parent or guardian is standing there to meet the child. So the "good old days" will be when kids could walk themselves home from school without fear of being dragged into a car. Sad.
Pirl, I agree with you!...
You know I walked to school all my life...Even when I went to Law School (yes, I lived at home! why not, free rent, free food and a maid!!!) ... I was so free!!!!!
My nephews are not that lucky! they can't play outside the house without me being paranoid! I will not let them out in the garden alone either... not even in the back of the house... too creepyyyyy!!!
I remember wandering around the back roads of my town everyday with my one girlfriend as early on as 7 years old. We even went trick-or-treating together at night! Alone! We were lucky I guess. I remember my entire childhood exploring every part of my town... behind the supermarket... the deep, dark woods...
Hey, I painted my bedroom!! The Amber Glow is a bit much for me. It looks like a school bus. If it were just a shade more muted, I'd like it better, but I like it alright. I like it a lot at night with just the lamp light on. In daylight it's pretty bold. Here's a pic.
Looks warm and cozy.
It is! I love sleeping in there. I'm so glad I took the time to make the lines clean and straight where the wall meets the ceiling. That's all I look at when I'm falling asleep. Wish my plants could stay in there. I had just brought them in the night I took the photo. They were threatening frost. I still have to find space for all these guys.
Harper
The room looks wonderful, Harper, and the plants are such a nice touch, though temporary from what you've said. What exposure do those windows have?
Nice - please take a shot during the day.

Harper - I think the color is great - very warm and cozy. I bet you'll get used to it!! Eleanor
Love your "new" bedroom, Harper! I agree that the plants look great too. Enjoy...it will be nice to be in a cozy spot this winter!
Thank you everyone! Pirl, the windows face north and there's a huge tree right in front of the windows outside. The plants that are in the windows are staying, but I have many other plants on the floor and on the dresser that you can't see that it's just too dark for, even though I like the look of a large plant in a corner.
Victor, here's a shot from the day. I took it before I uncovered my futniture from all the drop cloths. The sun was coming in at that moment from the west window and I thought that's gonna be the most light this room will get all day. Also, I still had the painting lights up. It's pretty ORANGE, eh? Blaringly so.
It's sunshiney, Harper! I like it!
It's bright and vibrant, just like the one who painted the room! I love that rattan stand with the books. Plants would look wonderful on it! Even add a plant light if it's needed.
Yes, more orange than the night photo. I like the tree structure through the window.
I agree, Arlene! It's uninhibited and expressive! Like orange juice....and who doesn't love OJ???
Thank you Louise and pirl! I love that bamboo shelf. It's getting old though and won't stand up straight. I just took it out of my room. I have some grow lights throughout the house and basement. I thought I should save electricity and not get anymore, but I might have to!
I still haven't brought my special flowery chair in the room yet. I like it empty and spacious. Also, I need DH to help carry it!
Simpson?
Victor, that's my Kwanza Cherry tree. It's a gigantic poof of pink in the spring.
No, not Simpson! Sheesh. He gave a bad name to Orange Juice.
Absolutely NOT THAT OJ!!! Gross!
Harper, what colors are in your flowery chair??
Looks like a great match for the paint, daylight or night time. Good job!
Awesome job Harper!! Looks like a great chair to curl up in on a cold night with a good book (about gardening) and it will go very nicely in your newly painted bedroom!! Eleanor
Or a book about Sofonisba!
Would be nice with my pellet stove in the room!
Is your pellet stove up for grabs? Cause I'll take it if it is!!
Thanks pirl and Eleanor!!
Sorry - that would be instant divorce - or worse.
So you're just bragging that you have one? No fair!
Stove or wife??? One wife is more than enough.
ha... smart men!!!! stay with only one woman... you are saving yourself trouble... well, sorry you are already in trouble since you have a wife!!!!
I have way too many females in my house... mom and 2 sisters... I am wondering if I should start praying for a miracle so my sisters could just find a good man and move away... oh it's a dream...
I'll take many wives! One to clean the house, one to serve the meals, one to run errands, one to baby me when I'm sick...
Kass, your sisters are gorgeous. What do they want to do?
I'm with you, Seandor: one to clean, one to help me in the garden, one to cook, etc.
You women are sexist! Is that all women are good for??!!
I'll take a few husbands for the same reasons then.
No, maybe not.
i might consider a husband for another reason.
You didn't say "Woman". You said "Wife". I think there's a difference.
Sharp, Harper!
