I think I'm going to lose my Brugs! What am I doing wrong? 2

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Hmmmm .... one of those motion sensor sprayers? It would have to be pointed in your yard so as not to hit people that were innocently walking by. LOL

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

being a teenager, i'd go with the idea of getting innocent people sprayed! i'm so mean..... hope yall had a good Halloween/Reformation day and have a good all saints day tomorrow (now i guess its today)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Amanda you little moonlight gardener.. I can just see you out there, flashlight in tow, feeding watering and prowling for dog poop. lol Sorry, dear it's the image in my mind. Funny and NOT so funny at the same time. TL, the kid in me LOVES your idea, but then Amanda would be the mean lady of the neighborhood and we all know she's not a meany. (and it WAS a school night, you must have been up late, studying......good all saints day to you) I'm potting up left over brug cuttings this weekend, I'll post some pics of my "greenhouse room" in the basement.. brugs still blooming and buds are developing down there.... smells good at night.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

well, being a student of a private christian school, we get today and tomorrow off! hooray!

edited to say that yes, both off my brugs are doing fine, and should be blooming in a few weeks. also maya already has nubs, so i potted her up. the other two will probably be in pots by the end of the week. how many of yall have brugs still outside (that are alive)?

edited againto say that i just looked, and the versicolor cutting w/o the Y has nup, and i'll pot it up in a bit. i'd say the other will be in a pot i a day or two!

Ha ha, you guys! :) I wasn't going to spray water anywhere other than on my grass, which is where the dog keeps pottying. It would help me grass, too. Ha! No motion-sensor thing, just a timed one I'm thinking.

You're right AuntB, I'm a night gardener right now. I've just had enough time to water and fertilize with a flashlight at night, nothing during the day because I'm up at work! Grrr ...

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

hey all yall... i was bored to death yesterday, so i decided to make something of these 2 days off of school.... i'm making a new bed with a specific brug in mind. it's gonna be an all white bed... plus i just wanted something to do and a place to put all the plants i got w/o places in mind to put them... i'll post pics.

Aren't you energetic! You can come up here and start me some new beds.... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, all white?!!! A moon garden! What else you putting in with it? What fun! (love that palm tree in the background)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

well this would connect the bed with the ermine canna with the bed of only natives that has a crinum americanum and the buttonbush. i will plant it on the edge to keep it away from the natives. then hopefully sometime i will be able to add a sabal minor, blue saw palmetto, normal saw palmetto, and a needle palm to fill in the spaces between the natives. i will also sneak a erythrina herbacea in there, but it's vibrant red blooms won't rin the garden because it blooms before anything else. thx bout the palm tree comment. th is one of our washingtonias.... a eally fast growing palm. it replaced its whole crown this summer

I was so amazed yesterday when my brug was almost white. Kind of the same color as a magnolia. Then this after noon it was stripes of cream and orange. Then this evening when I went out to take pictures for all of you beautiful people I found it to be sort of orange.

Thumbnail by kimarj
Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

it is certainly worth a try. i had agreen cutting root in water, and when i saw a lot of nubs, i put in wet soil, and keep in a sunny window

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks! I will put it in water and see what happens
Does versi mean it has variegated leaves?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

versi is short for versicolor which is a brug species they usually have the real long pendulous flowers... kinda like dangitgirl's... i'm pretty sure.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

thank you :)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

that's what wer'e here for... to ask question, give answers, and showw off our success
