OH! How adorable! AND a pink w/buds?? TL, when it's stormy out you can bring them little potted brugs inside. That's what I do, if they aren't too tall.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

the pink is 5' and in the ground.... the white will get in the ground in the spring...i'm gonna try to keep it going over the winter in the garage

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I thought that pink one was in the ground... good plan for the small one. I just meant, if it was going to get pounded by rain tonight, you could set it inside to save the bloom. The bloom is gorgeous, it looks pearly. Does it have a name? How's the smell?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

stronger than the pink... that is all i can say so far... but you were right the pink is in the ground. the white will be next yr. it just said "angel's trumpet - white 1 gal" on the tag. the rain hasn't come yet.... idk why... i'll take her in tonight to join my plumerias that i'm trying to keep going.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

TL, you are hopelessly addicted. ;) I can't find where my pics are on this computer... I wanted to post a pic for Kim of the Hummingbird/Sphinx/Owl moth that was a bit more interesting to view, not so creepy or scary. Their little "nector straw" is very long, they fly with it curled like a flat spiral... they can really zoom come to an abrupt stop, to almost hover.... ever so delicately, from one to the next, choosing just the right bloom. DGer, Phicks says they bite, but I don't believe him. Thanks for getting that new brug bloom pic fix for us.

now i need a yallow and orange

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

How about orange cuttings.......maybe next week? If all goes well, I'll be cutting a couple limbs tomorrow... :)

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

I brought a bunch of stuff inside today. The young Alex brug I've been growing since last fall has 2 teeny buds!!! I am ALMOST beyond words! lol They are less than 1/4 inch and so small and cute!!! I should snap a pic... It is in my basement under lights... I'm keeping my fingers crossed... It's only about 3 ft tall and the blooms will be miniature and pink...it's like I'm a "newbie" all over again. The anticipation of a new bloom is ALWAYS exciting for me, too!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

keep us posted

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

Congrats, AuntB, on your Alex---minature flowers???

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Yes, it will be about a 4 inch across skirt and somewhere around 8 inches long.... It is just a year old and actually rather a small plant - 2-1/2 to 3ft. right now. I'd love to share some, but he's too little to be cutting on him this year. Here's the teeny weeny "okra" I spied:

how long do brugs usualy last? .... mine still looks exactly the same, and it is about 3 days old

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Hey AuntB that one called alex is a double right?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

The milder temps will help them last longer, TL, a few days is what I've read about them... Great though, 3 days is good. When it's triple digits, it's sometimes ruined before it fluffs out. I didn't think it was a double, James, but I sure wouldn't be disappointed... (I'm not going to try to find out, I'm just going to enjoy the anticipation. A double??!! oooooo pretty!)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

glad to hear that.... but that is not good news for the summer....

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

diehrd, some kinds hold up better than others. You will find ones that work for you, although, I haven't given up on any, yet. I looked at the mini pic I posted... closer..... there is another bud in the right side! Does anyone know the names of other mini's? I saw a yellow double Brugie is growing but it won't be available for a while....... I won't have time to get back to the basement to organize and inspect everything until this weekend. (got some trades boxed up tonight ;)

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

AuntB---

Goodness gracious young lady---were you really up and posting at midnight??? You have work in the morning and you need your rest---get thee to bed!

I doubt that we're going to be going to the trailer for the last weekend of camping---it's supposed to rain all day Friday and Saturday morning. The girls (a.k.a. spoiled rotten beagles:) do not like to get wet when we want them to go out to do their potty. Tho, if we mention the word "walkie" (I know...we both talk baby-talk to them and the above word has to either be spelled-out or referred to as "the w" when they're around...) they won't/don't mind the rain---go figure!!! So, like yourself, I'll probably be working in the basement. Maybe we'll winterize on Sunday...

Take care everyone and my thoughts and prayers go out to those who either reside, or have family/friends in California-
Jan

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I was packing my fun boxes to get in the mail, Jan. I have a bird and a cat I talk to and treat like a babies.. I was your girls on another forum.. nice pretty doggies. I didn't even make it to the basement last night... but I am tonight.. I'm looking for brug seed pods.. IF I have any and they successfully ripen over winter, I might get to have baby brugs next spring. And I need to check on young Alex's bud progress. I doubt there will be much organizing going on tonight, though... the couch and my down comforter is sounding pretty good.. And thank you, Jan... "Goodness gracious YOUNG lady" ;) Those poor CA people, we have DG'ers being affected and it really brings the traumatic reality of it all home when you "know" someone who is trying to cope with it.

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

Well, AuntB, I am OLDER than you---so respect your "elders" :)

It's the last weekend of the camping season and hubby wants to go to the trailer so we'll go---he can go outside with the girls if it's rainy (not that I would "melt", or anything like that...). So what if it rains then I'll slouch around inside reading a book or watch one of my chick flicks or just relax...ahhhh!!!

Amanda, Amanda---come out, come out, wherever you are!!! Didja get lost in your brug/philo/hibiscus jungle?! Any plans for "new" brugs for next year???

"HI" to James, TL, Kim, etc., etc., etc. (It's too early yet to go into "hibernation" yet you guys...)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

hey all yall! i got the cuttings, auntb, and i am really looking foreward to seeing them grow! i'm going to try to send yours this weekend.... the bloom fell off yesterday because the rain FINALLY came (5 days later). so yeah.....

Everyone, Enjoy the weekend!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

(streeeeetch!!) Ok, guys - I'm out of hiding for a brief moment. :) I work for NASA and have been really busy with launch preparations and since Tuesday, with mission support working 12-14 hour shifts per day, every day. Sooooo .... until they land in another week and a half, I'll be a little bit scarce on here. I may get on occasionally, but not many pics because I won't have the time to get all of that done and I'm in the Mission Control Center with a lot of big shots coming around looking over my shoulder at our data. :)

But I will say this (they're in an Orbiter Project Office brief right now so I can jump on quickly) it's getting quite cool around here and I'm LOVING it!! And I went out last night and my Brugs are in FULL bloom, with a heavenly scent flowing all around my yard!! Mmmmmmmmmm ... I can almost smell it now, it was like walking in Heaven.

On another, grump kind of note, my husband got home yesterday with our little princess and they were playing together outside in this wonderful weather in the front yard when he found a pile of dog mess right at our front walkway. Grrrr ... this lady that lives in some apartments near us always brings her dog to our yard to potty and never cleans up her mess and our child has found the mess before and curiously picked it up (gag). My husband has very nicely asked her before to take her dog somewhere else to potty or to bring what she needs with her when she walks her dog to pick the mess up and chunk it in the trash because of our child. Well, I wasn't home for me to calm him down yesterday evening and didn't know about it until after the fact, but he picked it up, bagged it, and took it over to her apartment and handed it to her. He said she told him she's never brought her dog into our yard, then our neighbors came out and said they'd just seen her do it, and I saw her do it the morning before (nevermind the countless times before that we all saw her). She denied everything and was livid about it but my husband just looked at her and said, "Don't let me find this in our yard again." She's talking about it with all of her apartment neighbors and she's saying that we need to just teach our daughter not to play with her dog's mess, so she's pretty mad and I think it could have maybe been handled better by my husband. However, my husband called the city and asked them about it, and they said that if she brings her dog out without a leash, she can get a fine of $300 (which I know she couldn't afford, she doesn't work, lives on welfare), so he's anxiously waiting and watching for her to come out with her dog again because she never has a leash on the dog (it's a Chihuahua). Soooo ... I don't really know what to do. I came home and found out that all of this had happened, and now we could face retribution from these apartment dwellers. Ugh ... anyone have any advice on how to handle this one from here? I know this forum is about Brugs but you guys are my friends and some of you have dogs and I thought maybe you could help?

Amanda---

geez...sorry...I know that you work for NASA but wasn't "paying close attention"...that's gotta be interesting (but, hate it when the "Big Shots look over the shoulder..."!)....

Re: the dog incident-that lady IS RESPONSIBLE for picking up doogie-doo and SHOULD have a leash on the dog, no matter the size/kind. I like how your husband gave the doo-doo back to her...LOL!!! Perhaps he should've just put it outside her apt door and then she'll find out how "wonderful" it is to step in it!!! When we take "the girls" for a walkie, I carry a small shoulder-strap handbag in which I have plastic baggies and paper towels. Then, after the "deed", either DH or I carry the baggie back home and throw it out---in our garbage. That is so not right what she is doing and disgusting, not to mention unsanitary, also! I always make certain that I use enuff paper towels so as not to soil my hands (ICKY YUCKIE!!!) but I still can't wait to get home and wash my hands (hmmmm, just had a thought - how radical - I use gloves when I garden so I'm gonna put some disposable gloves in the handbag also...). Could you, or someone else (other neighbor, DH...) possibly "catch" the doings with a camera?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Mission control?!?!! What fun, you are a rocket scientist? You do what you need to do to get them there and back safe. Thanks for checking in with us. Now for the doggie do-do.... kudos to your husband... I agree the situ had to be addressed, face to face. Too bad she didn't apoligize and offer to clean up after herself. I'd snap a photo of her and her little dog too, next time. You shouldn't have to do-do proof YOUR yard so your cute little daughter can play. Maybe think about some fencing for the future?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Jan look, we both told her to get a pic! lol - I'm busy at work too, that post took me about 30 minutes to compose!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Hello all, your job sounds amazing...shame your neighbor is such a pig...take the pic your daughter is more important a nasty neighbors finances!!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

This is how I see it. She's not being responsible for her dog. You ARE being responsible about your daughter's well-being and your AREN'T responsible for her financial situation. I don't think it's too much to ask her to clean up after the dog, I mean how nice of you to not mind if it does it's dooty in your yard, you just want her to clean up. How could anyone see that cute little baby girl out playing and not care? It's plain disrespectful! Shame on her.

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, you guys are right, it probably was the best thing to do. I was worried that it wasn't and I've been afraid at how she may react. She's stayed away pretty much (although 2 nights ago I got home very late and was feeding my Brugs when I found some semi-fresh mess that had some dead grass clippings piled on top of it.). Anyway, for the most part she's just griping loudly at all of the other neighbors about it. My husband is on the prowl for her to be out with her dog without a leash now. OMG, I so don't care if she is or not, just don't want to step in dog mess. But it's aggravating him how we can hear her shouting to other people about the whole thing and how stupid we are for "letting" our child play with the dog poo. So now he's flat out mad. Ugh ... I'm praying for patience (for him!). Well, I've been up here all night and hve been up since 7 am Sunday morning (ugh). I can FEEL the bags under my eyes so I'm going to go home as soon as my relief gets here and crash!! Love you guys! I'll get some more Brug pics up soon!

And THANKS AuntB!!! ;)

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

Amanda, I would've scraped-up the Grass-covered poo mess and put it on the sidewalk by the apt. bldg. door---I absolutely can't stand big-mouthed neighbors and she is only doing that cause she knows she is wrong. If there any way that you could put a barrier around your yard---something with thorns preferably (cactus, roses...). Another thing, she is trespassing!!! Can you/hubby talk to someone in city hall and file a complaint? Furthermore, is the dog licensed? Does her landlord know that she has a dog? We have a fenced yard and I love it but it is not "cheap"... but, it'll insure your privacy and keep out trespassers and "protect" your little one from straying from the yard...

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

That is very true ... I've thought about fencing however I'm not sure it will look great in my yard because my house is a newer, small home (one of those kind where you see the garage in the very front first) and it is in a small neighborhood of similar homes. But it might look good, I don't know. I'm thinking about it, that's for sure!

Another thing I thought of is burying some waterhoses and psrinklers in my yard and timing them to go of for at least 30 minutes every morning or every other morning when she's out walking her dog (8am) that way they'll be too afraid to come over because of getting wet. Not sure ...
