Wow! 22 people! That is really cool. As we discussed in d-mail. I will be sending you more seeds on Monday. I think I have enough for at least one of the ones I mentioned to ensure that eveyone gets a pack. Hopefully the other one as well. They are both kind of cool!

You're a doll for doing this. What fun we will have sharing photos next summer!

Here's a toast to you!

Cheers to Theresa!

I wished I'd known there were going to be so many participants so I could've sent more packs of seeds. Looks like we got a great group in this swap!

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

ditto. I'm curious how the lottery works, because I have never done it before. I think it would be more fun to be surprised, but not knowing what it entails I can't say, eh?-Kath

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

All these teases -will we find out...or won't we???

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

Yes, just a little bit longer to wait :)

(Zone 7a)

sent seeds yesterday - am afraid the logic might be more uncommon than the seeds. For example, for a plant to survive on our dry shady slope and to also infuse the garden with a glorious fragrance in late winter, to me, makes it uncommon. Or if I collect seeds from an old heirloom seldom seen that blooms by an abandoned road along a river going past long tumbled bridge trestles - that plant, to me, is uncommon. So some things I've sent may not seem uncommon to the eye, but rather to lost dreams.

Well, I, too, can't wait to see what all the different rationales for being uncommon are - Theresa, you've piqued our curiosities in more ways than one.

Anyone else want to share what they think makes a plant uncommon? How about before we get the seeds - more guessing??

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

It's funny that I think often native plants can end up being ones we think of as uncommon, perhaps because some have started to disappear. And while I love native plants I am also very drawn in by the flashy new varieties of more common flowers. Different IS good (trust me I've been that way my whole life, and I like myself pretty well!) I think it comes down to what do you see in other people's gardens. If I have a plant I have never actually seen in anyone else's garden I think it is unusual.
Any word yet on the lottery Theresa and how it might work? (or if we are doing it?)

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah, I forgot to say thank you to blue spiral for painting a beautiful picture in my mind of what her idea of unusual is!-Kath

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

Just got mine in the mail!! Sorry it was last minute!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

everybody and their aunt seems to have Hyacinth Bean vine seeds - - i always think of goofy little puffins (see: http://www.umabroad.umn.edu/news/globalMosaic/images/ICBJBestpuffinphoto.JPG) when i see these seeds.

i go way back into my childhood when i harvest seeds from a nice juicy red pomegranate (http://z.about.com/d/gourmetfood/1/0/a/1/pomegranate2.JPG) - - and wish i knew about the variety with white or clear seeds so my mom wouldn't forbid me to ever eat pomegranates with my bare hands and wearing a new shirt again! (see: http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Xenomorf_1098829339_115.jpg)

i wish i had enough Strelitzia reginae (Bird Of Paradise, aka Crane Flower) seeds to contribute (http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/9167/) because they are so strikingly beautiful - - maybe next year when my own will hopefully yield a harvest.

and when i am preparing the earth in which a seed will be set to grow for my pleasure, and it sprouts up then florishes under my care, it makes me recall that time itself began in a garden:

"Now the Lord God planted a garden in the east, in Eden."
        Genesis 2:8

and so, seeds are the device by which i feel part of and belonging in a cyclic universe. the little bitty seed always humbles me and i am grateful to have the privilege of tending to its needs.

Backus, MN

I mailed my seeds on Friday - they will go to same postal center for distribution as distantkin (St Cloud, MN) They should be there by Tuesday or Wednesday.
What do I consider unusual: Not very creative in my idea here, but whenever someone ooohs and aaahs over something and asks what it is, I consider it unusual. 'someone' here does NOT refer to my sister who calls all flowers 'delpheniums or something'. When I say 'someone' I am refering to those who garden themselves. What might be considered unusual in this area might be a weed somewhere else. So I tried my best to send seeds from things that have been considered unusual by three of my closest 'gardening associates'. I appologize for the scanty number of packets. I didn't expect there to be 22 swappers. Theresa, if you need to, you can divide some of my packets if you think they are generous enough.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Wait! We were supposed to send 22 packages? I am soooo sorry - I only sent 10. Does this mess things up? I can send more if you want - but I can't guarantee they will arrive by October 31.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

NO - 10 seed packs were the agreement, but when I saw how many people there are (and how many left over seeds I have) I decided to send more.

It's my analness at issue here!
