12th Step Recovery Program for plantaholics. You might be ..

(sigh) I keep trying but I only got it into Super Macro once. It doesn't like me or something.

Posy, I love your yard! The water barrel fountain would be perfect for my daughter's house, and I have to have a blue chair! Take more pictures!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

posy, I betcha that neighbor thought he was really doing something nice for you, having your yard lighted at night. I understand how you feel!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks! I've been toying with the idea of a new camera, and I'm torn between a more "serious" camera like the PowerShot or a really compact camera (still has a huge LCD though) like Sony's CyberShot T2 series (another friend of mine just got one).

back to our regularly scheduled topic... great trellises!

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Oh Cathy, thank you for the encouragement,I am learning all I can about this new camera. It is amazing technology. I have one more pic I took,so here it is.....

The Barrel is half a whisky barrel that I made into a bio filter waterfall for the pond. i have a liner in it because old whiskey barrels are full of tannic acid. I have the other half of the barrel out front as a planter. I hope you do get your daughter one, they are wonderfully rustic:)

Flowr, I think you might be right, but her son has the light shinning on his Hotrod:( I hinted to her about it but I gave up and thus a 12' trellis was born;)))

Critter, you better take the plunge and get a PowerShot 'cause you sound serious about your photos;))) My trellises are flattered by your complement:)

one might be a Plantaholic when seeds fall out all over the floor while putting a load of clothes in the dryer, not mention the shredded paper stuck to everything:((((

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

posy, LOL!!! Been there, done that! LOL

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA! I just knew this had to happen to someone besides me and I feel much better now. I won't mention anything about all the shredded Maple leaves, orange, red and gold, what a mess!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Just let it all stay on the floor for a couple of hours and it will all by dry and easy to get up... voice of experience!! LOL

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Hummmmmm you know you have serious problem with you've taken more pictures of your garden than your kids. HOWEVER, soon I'll be a Grandma and we'll see how THAT changes my picture taking habits!

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

ROFL!

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Plants are a whole lot quieter than grandkids, lol, and you don't need a nap when they leave. (i love my sweet babies)

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

To be truthful, I didn't take many pictures of ANYTHING. My X had the camera and he did not "share" well. Now that I have remarried, I do not live near my grown children. My husband shares well and we have a digital camera. I just need to remember to take pictures AND to learn how to download them on the computer! The new grandbaby (my VERY first!) is making it even harder for me to be away "from home".

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

You might be a plantaholic if you sneak into your neighbor's yard when they are at church and prun their roses for them.

Madison, IL(Zone 6b)

I take pictures of my gr-d in my garden. She has her own watering can, tools, etc... ; )

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Dear Psychw2,

I admit that I take more photos of my garden than my grandkids. My nearest grandkids live 97 miles away from me. Then I have two more in Salt Lake City. THENNNNNNNNNNN, we are expecting our fifth grandchild on December 29 (or thereabouts) in Salt Lake City.

I just wish all my kids and grandkids lived as close as my garden...LOL.

Thanks,

Chuck

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, now that I am 300 miles away, I try to still see them once a month. The winter months make it kind of dicey since my husband cant' go with me generally because of his work and school schedule.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

You KNOW you're a plantaholic when you find bulbs in the dryer lint trap !

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

You are kidding me, right Mike?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

basically, yes ! But one time I did find an iris rhizome at the bottom of the washing machine. Gotta start checking my pockets when I do the wash !

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

HAHAHA! That happened to me too. The darn squirrels dig the 'zomes up and don't eat the whole thing,I come along, put them in my pocket to replant and yep, they end up in the washer. I replant them anyhow with the other Cannas so I don't know if they are still viable after sudsing;)

There is something very Plantaholic about replanting when it's probably dead or dying anyhow.

Madison, IL(Zone 6b)

I plan my vacation days around my gardening projects and planting schedule. Once after one of those "vacations" I ended up taking 2 sick days (doctor's orders--I'd strained a tendon in my leg & couldn't walk). My supervisor was NOT happy! She told me that vacation days were meant for relaxation & rejuvenation. When I left that job (12 yrs ago), my going away present was a gift basket of tulip bulbs. I guess that she didn't have to worry about me being able to report to work after planting them. They still come up every spring. ; )

Anyway, I'm on vacation today and have to get busy planting bulbs. At least, I don't have to report back to work until Tuesday. Twelve years later, I'm learning to adapt. My family has become codependent to my plantaholic lifestyle.

Norfolk, VA

You know your a plantaholic when Thanksgiving dinner is being served in the living room, because your dining room is used as a safe harbor for your babies that can't be left outside in the cold.

Madison, IL(Zone 6b)

Oh bhaugh, you top me for sure. The holidays are the only time I'm picky about the dining room being clean, tidy, & decorated for family sitdown dinners. Of course, that doesn't mean that my decorations aren't live plants.

I have finally gotten to read most of this thread and agree with others that I feel among kindred spirits.

You know that you're a plantaholic when you give the neighbor a quart of homemade bread & butter pickles for allowing you to carry off all the fall leaves raked up in her yard to use for mulch & you think that you got the better deal.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Years ago we had neighbors who brought in truck loads of leaves every fall. We thought they were crazy. Little did I know they were so smart. (they were crazy in other major ways, we moved when they started exposing themselves to the neighborhood kids. Identical twins, can't give positive ID.)

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

Ha, Ha, Ha, what a laugh, you know your a plant-o-holic when your neighbours start to expose themselves and you would rather look at your plants, even IF they neighbours do come by the pair
WeeNel.

mulege, Mexico

You might be a propogating planaholic if you are less excited by any flower than you are by the maggot-looking roots on the plumaria cuttings you've been coddling.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

You might be a plantaholic when you dig down in your purse for change at the checkout and come up with a handful of seeds and leaves. The cashier humourously informed
me " We dont take those".

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

LOL

Backus, MN

Oh yes! Planning vacations around the gardening tasks! I can relate. My grandson and I have been planning a vacation together for 12 years and 2008 is the year. We have to go mid-June. Because it has to be after he is out of school for the summer and before I have to get my gardens ready for the local garden tour in mid-July!!!! Seems perfectly normal to me!!!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Yep! I agree. I've been trying to get my family to plan things around 'flower things', and sometimes it works, but not lately.

Burlingame, CA(Zone 9a)

He he he - my 40th birthday is 18 months away. Last night I suggested to my DH that he start planning it now so we could have a few days away on our own, leaving the kids behind. When he asked me where I would like to go, I "suddenly" remembered that the Chelsea Flower Show is held right around that time and that would be a fantastic gift to me. LOL

We're all normal in this institution!

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

kiwi, good planning! Kinda like planting a seed. ☺

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Chelsea Flower Show is where? England?

Always in London England and always in the month of May.

I've got some pictures of last year's winners if you would like me to forward them to you in e-mail.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Aha! well, there it is then - DH and I will go to London in May :-) Well, not this May - maybe May of 2009 - have to save my pennies. :-)

Burlingame, CA(Zone 9a)

The we'll be seeing you there Seandor! It's an event that has been at the top of my wish list for quite a few years and if my DH doesn't come through I'll be calling in the lawyers. ;-)

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Ahhh ! That's what you do . . . . ummmm. I think I will have to be a little more subtle. First, I must check the dates of the Chelsea flower show - then I must see what conferences are happening at approximately the same time (so the college will pay my fare), and I have to check when college exam week is - if the stars (and dates) are in their right configurations, we may be there!

May 20 - 24th in 2008. Hopefully will see both of you there in '09. I have a friend who is going to exhibit again in that year but there may be a conflict with a symposium in that month. Dates not available for either Chelsea or the symposium yet for '09 but both are in May.

Lucky you Seandor that you can get your college to pay!
