It's time for the 2007 DG Photo Contest!

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Darlindeb: I'm thinking you put them in the category they best fit. If it's a hardy perennial type of water plant, then post in perennials, if tropical or annual, follow suit. I may be wrong, but that's what I did with plants that didn't have a specific category of their own.
Deb

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

That's pretty much what I said too when you asked before. If they were my pictures, if they were tropical, I'd put them under tropicals. If they're hardy, I'd put them under perennials. Or put them under Miscallaneous if you'd rather. Dave probably didn't feel he had to provide an answer on this one since it's not one of those things like retouching photos that's a gray area in the rules, there are no hard and fast rules on where to put your pictures, for things that aren't completely obvious you just put it in the category you feel is most appropriate.

Aquebogue, NY(Zone 6a)

I placed some photos in various categories for the first time. I didn't crop or touch-up any of the pics. I thought those were the rules.
The past photos are absolutely beautiful! Very enjoyable to see what everyone can find. I had my kids looking at them, too.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I see the notice about the contest is no longer on my home page. Did the deadline pass or is it open until the end of the month?
Ann

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think it was supposed to be open until the end of the month...I hope it is because I haven't had a chance to get my pics entered yet!

I was only planning to have the notice on the homepage for a week; it was an accident that I left it up there 2 weeks. I just had it up there to let everyone know about it; I think they now do. :)

The schedule hasn't changed. You can still access the contest through this thread or through the Extras menu.

When voting begins, I'll add another notice no the homepage about the voting.

Thanks, Dave. That was what I thought, but the contest page itself doesn't have the deadline on it. Most of my entries are in but I might add or change one or two.
Ann

Thanks; I updated the contest page to include the dates. One week to go before voting begins!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Wow! That was quick. Thanks.

:)

Dave
What would a wild mushroom, fall under????

Washington, MO(Zone 6a)

From the leaves present, I'd say it fell under a tree. =)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

So what does that mean? do I put in the tree and shrub?
or what category would it go IN TO?

So. Puget Sound, WA(Zone 8b)

When all else fails, go Misc.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Okay

Washington, MO(Zone 6a)

tillysrat,

It was a *joke*. Sheesh... tough room! =P

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

I laughed, Eggs. : ) Sounded like something my son would say. : )

(GayLynn) Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Tee Hee! Cute! Especially coming from someone named Eggs_Zachtly!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I enjoyed it, too, Eggs. I have to agree with staceysmom's comment, too!

Couldn't it go under Fruits and Vegetables? The mushroom, not your comment.

Tri-Cities, WA(Zone 7b)

With all of the end of season cleanup, greenhouse setup, prep for next year, etc. I'd probably put myself in the fruits & vegetables category this time of year...

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Sorry Eggs I just took it wrong, I just didnt know what a mushroom fell under( and not the tree) thank you.
after rereading it was funny. LOL

Washington, MO(Zone 6a)

tillysrat, it's all good. Sorry for frustrating you further than you must have been. =)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Eggs - I suggested it should go under Fruits and Vegetables but her thought about annuals was an interesting one. Which would you think is best since there's still time to change categories?

Tropicalaria - me, too!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

The mention of disabling the Copyright is news to me, the last two years I didn't have to do that and the Copyright was not on the contest pictures. In 2005 however if the arrow was held above the picture it did give the posters user name. Last year this was changed so it was not popssible to see.

I would like to know where the calendars will be sold, i.e on Dave's Garden but anywhere else?

I would also like to know if credit will be given to the photographers below each picture used for the calendar.

Washington, MO(Zone 6a)

Pirl, I'd say that Misc is probably the best category for fungi. It's neither a fruit, nor a vegetable.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think you're right about the copyright being left out automatically--I have my copyright turned on right now and I just uploaded a pic to the contest and when I go back and view it, the copyright's not there. I thought you had to turn it off yourself--I remember someone posted something to that effect a couple years ago when I entered the contest for the first time, so ever since I saw that I always went in and turned it off temporarily. But I guess you don't need to!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

That's good! I agree, I didn't see it when I viewed my entries.
Ann

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

where do you view the pictures that have been posted or the winners of the contest ?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

deejay, the voting will start tomorrow (I think) - there will be a notice on our home pages when it begins. I think Dave said he would give us two weeks to vote, then we'll announce the winners and gather the high-res photographs to put in a calendar, so it can be available by the first of December.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

where can we find all the pictures to vote on them will it be posted ??
susie

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

The photos are not available for public viewing until the voting starts.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

How much will the calendars cost?? $$

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

This is probably about as much information as we have at this time: http://www.zazzle.com/custom/calendars

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

I also would like to know if credit will be given to the photographers on the calendar ?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I can't speak for Dave, but my understanding is the photographers featured in the calendar will be given credit for their images - I'm sure we'll work with them to determine how they want their information provided (some may want their full name; others may want just their username.)

Absolutely! Each winning photographer will be given prominent mention in the calendar! That's the whole point! :)

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

do voters get to make comments about pictures?
do entrants find out how many votes they got (if any) at the end?

thanks!

I'm not sure I want to KNOW...LOL>!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i do!
(probably none...)
: )

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

In previous years that info has not been made available, all we knew was who won (and I think in some cases who the runners up were). Seems to me there was a discussion of this last year, and most people felt that it was just a recipe for hurt feelings if it was made public who got how many votes. The people who care how many votes they got are going to be upset either because they didn't get very many votes, or because they came very close but some picture they don't think was as good as theirs beat them. Then there are people who would just take it all in good fun, but most of them probably don't really care that much how many votes they got. So there's really no up side to publicizing the counts, and a lot of potential down side/hurt feelings.
