How's the weather in your garden? Temps, precipitation, wind, humidity? Give us all the facts.
Gorgeous Fall weather today. 70 and sunny right now.
Today's Weather in Your Garden 3
63 degrees and gorgeous at 2:30 in the afternoon in SW New Hampshire.........couldn't ask for more!! Cool, sunny, no humidity.......Ahhh, New England in the fall.....that's what I'm talkin' about!!
Perfect weather day. Total opposite day as a Mets fan. Deep depression here.
Sorry, Victor....buck up, Buckaroo!
Another glorious 10.5 hours ripping out ivy and severely trimming old hollies.
Wow, how much ivy do you have, Pirl?? It must run all the way to the sea! I have Boston Ivy growing up my chimney. Will I regret it?
YES!
Just 40' of it but on both side of the post and rail fence with our neighbor who has bad knees and just can't tackle it. I don't mind doing it for her. It's climbing the old pines and it absolutely has to get off the property. I should have two more days of this until I'm done.
Today is day #7 of ripping out. Enough already!
You go, Pirl!
Victor - Quick.........it's not too late tonight for you to get out there and rip down that ivy from your chimney!!! You won't believe the mess it will make! Is your chimney brick? If so, you will probably have to have it repointed because of the ivy eventually. I know whereof I speak!!! Get your jammies off and rip that stuff down!
Okay, that's what I was afraid of. I'll just give it a chance to show the Fall colors and then I'll kill it. Thanks.
Use a have-a-heart and deliver it to the Klink for some nice get-away roping on the electric fence.......
Actually I've been trying to grow it 'down' the chimney of the prison so I could make my escape. However, I am concerned about defacing the property. The only species I want escaping is me!
You gotta love an inmate with respect for the prison walls!!! LOL
Just a few of the cut ivy roots from the base of the tree. We had them all removed when we went through this about five years ago so keep a better eye on the roots than we did.
It's hard to judge the size without a pruner or some reference for size in the photo but these were between a dime and a nickel. I'll bet Victor's roots are FORMIDABLE.
They were only planted a few years ago and only really starting climbing fast this year.
Good October morning, all!!
It's a rather balmy-feeling 49 degrees this morning, and the sun is not yet out of bed. But I am. Not fair when the sun gets to sleep longer than me!!!
The hunidity is sitting at 95%, too. No wonder it feels a bit sultry. The wind, or rather the breeze, is out of the south, giving us these milder-feeling temps.
Happy October everyone!!
Now that there's more light, I can see that the skies are overcast here. I bet THAT will be gone in a few hours.
59 here with 62% humidity and going up to 68 but warmer tomorrow and Thursday. Sunny out and birds flocking unbelievably.
53 and partly cloudy.
cool and crystal clear blue skies! I definitely want a weather station for Christmas! I like the idea of not only knowing the temp, but the humidity too.
Not sure if this is totally reliable info on ivy but I was watching 'Location, Location, Location" awhile back and there was a house with alot of ivy covering it and the suggestion was to cut it at the root. Then let the ivy just shrivel up and die without the work of pulling it off the building.
Sue
I heard that too as the suckers send to pull the mortar out with them.
The roots still have to come out or they'll sprout. When the root is cut at ground level and the ivy is left on the building it shrivels up and looks like giant gray varicose veins. I love looking at it in photos when it's not my headache to remove.
I want a weather station too. Davis is probably the best but of course they're more expensive.
On the Boston Ivy, mine is new so it should not leave that much mess.
I love Boston ivy, too. I think you'll have a rather easy time of removing it, Victor. It's too bad, really, when it's such a lovely plant.
In North Vancouver, during the 1970s, one of those horrible concrete hotels was built - you know all grey - no style whatsoever. But they grew some sort of vine up the side - it was remarkable - and grew for several stories.
Weather outside the office - overcast but mild with periods of sunshine. Not bad for the first of October.
We had an overcast day hovering around 60 degrees most of the day.....very pleasant for working outside, but I was working inside most of the day - with the exception of helping my DH hoist our canoe up into the tractor shed rafters and guiding the tractor into its shed for winter.
We had sunshine all day and a high of 67: ideal for planting new arrivals, which I did. It was a day off from the ivy/holly routine.
Would anyone know what the hardiness zone of Chester County Pennsylvania is?
cgrace, just google hardiness zones. Most sites will have a zip code finder.
Was cloudy and cool all day here. Nice for all the weeding I was doing.
GOOD MORNING NE GARDENERS!!!! (That's my best Ty Pennington impersonsation)
It's a cloudy 43 degree morning here with absolutely no breezes blowing at ground level, but you oughtta see those clouds moving by in the upper regions!! The humidity is at 100%, which is great for keeping the gardens' moisture in for another day. They predict that tomorrow the humidity will drop.
Perhaps the clouds will all move out, and we will have some sunshine today. I certainly hope so.
Good Morning Candyce!
Sunny and 54 right now, up from 52 earlier, almost no breeze, blue skies with a few clouds. NYC forecast (on radio) said there's a chance of a quick shower but that will probably pass by and NYC is two hours away. Maybe Victor will get it.
Tomorrow should be near 80, more sunshine.
Good morning all. 55 and mostly cloudy here. Predicting 80 - 85 on Thursday! Too hot.
Schedule working in the shade!
Well, they faked me out. It was supposed to be sunny today, Wed & Thurs. got up this a.m. to rain. I had a morning of various garden chores planned. It's 59. It may clear up later.
Now it's supposed to be low 80's and sunny on the weekend. Sounds good to me...we haven't closed the pool yet ;0)
Goodmorning Everybody.
Well it is a lovely day here . . . cloudy in the morning but currently bright and sunny. I am in a classroom, there is an annoying cricket outside chirping. Meanwhile, students are busy writing an exam. :-) Wish I was playing in the dirt. lol
At mid-week, the early morning temperature is a robust 52 degrees.
There is no breeze or wind, so there is no wind direction to speak about.
The humidity is at 97%, which is making it feel a bit cool and damp.
There's a 30% chance of sprinkles today, which explains why the sky is all overcast.
63 with a dark overcast.
Ohhhhh, Victor! Might you be getting some rain then?
I'm hoping but I'm not holding my breath.
