A Dahlia for Al!
What's blooming? #16
Al that dahlia is beautiful.... Anita when do you put your gazania seeds out?
This was my second year wintersowing and both I sowed the Gazania in March. It took them about 2 weeks to germinate.
Hey you got a flower on that one Anita, great flowers, buch such a slowpoke.
Toad Lilies are nice aren't they.
thanks Anita... going to give that a try next year
All my dahlia's were pretty slow this year. I am definitely starting them early indoors next year. I just hope they overwinter well. Last year was the first year that I didn't have good luck. I lost quite a few.
I'm still waiting for an explanation on the Dahlia tardiness Al!
He's just a bit late Victor
I had some flowering in early June. If they all opened up early you wouldn't have anything to look forward to.
But you, in your cold big city, seem to have more open earlier than those of us in warmer areas. Pourquoi??
Considering they all were started early, my late ones shoud be even later. Plenty hot here in the urban heat trap.
But I assume the people in the warmer areas start theirs earlier than you do so why do theirs take longer than yours?
Not so fast with your assumption Mr. I know of many people in warmer zones that put their 'unstarted' tubers in the ground as the same time as my started ones..
Pirl - when did you plant yours?
Oh okay - you start yours indoors. Do you do that with all of them? When do you start them?
Boy, you stay-at-homes sure sound BORED today!
xx, Carrie
Wow! Very nice!
I'm not bored, too hot to be outside(88).
Victor - they were started 4/7ish and went in the ground 5/19.
Hormones, Donnie?
Good question, Carrie........but they keep the bugs away and they are so cheerful. Their parent flowers were ones I grew in Fla. last winter, and they weren't nearly as big!
You know the joke of how do you make a hormone? Don't pay her! (w-hore moan, get it?)
Donnie, by any chance, are you about 11 inches tall? How tall are they?!
Victor, Is it true you're heading the investigation into Al's prodigious dahlias? I think he's on the level.
Yeah, but what level? I smell another steroid scandal here. Al might have to give a few of his medals back.
The ADS wouldn't buy me off Victor. I am on the take from the helenium lobbyists.
great photos everyone
Great blooms everyone!! Eleanor
It's a good thing I've got a faster connection now - but it still takes forever to keep up with all of you! Wonderful pics :)
Pixie, loved the photos of Acadia - lots of memories :)
DonnieBrook, don't think anyone ever identified your "berried" plant - one of my favorites: White Doll's Eyes http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1107/ Andy had a nice photo of the berries in his collection from Garden in the Woods. Used to have lots of the Red Baneberry http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/466/ growing on property in Maine and every once in a while would have a nice surprise when I found the white.
Victor, believe your NOID is a Boneset (Eupatorium sp.) http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=boneset&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search. Not sure which one - E. perfoliatum is my favorite in this group - really nice foliage. Your pic of Heptacodium is gorgeous! Question, do you prune yours? Not often I see them with the lovely form yours has - mine looks like it's been strangled! :)
Took some pictures with new camera the other day - still trying to figure out the settings, but will probably post some of them on Dawn's 'Aster' thread soon since that's what most of them are.
Debbie
Thanks Debbie! Looks like you're right. No, I have not pruned the Hep yet. I will start limbing it up so I can see the nice peeling bark.
Al, I really like Jade. I need a couple of new coneflowers in the spring. I'll have to check your list of the 'good' ones and pick a couple.
Donnie, I used to plant a ton of marigolds around my veggie garden. I miss them, and they are so easy to grow. I'll put them on the list for next year's annuals...thanks for the reminder. (I like ANY kind of pink)
HEY, leave Al alone!!! (yes, I'm yelling ;0)) he's my 'pusher' and I'm addicted. Unless you want to work thru dahlia withdrawal with me (and believe me, it wouldn't be pretty), I'd suggest you drop the investigation pronto.
got a 2nd flower on Wine & Roses
