I was working and didn't go over. My October Skies aster is open now - I'll put the 'ole sniffer on that one tomorrow.
yes that was a Sweet Autumn
not mine either - Porcelain vine.
What's blooming? #16
Guerilla gardening photography, Al? I have heard Autumn Clematis can be invasive but not sure if it is around here. I don't have it.
Paine Art Center - guess that would be common sense gardening?!
Al, you get to work at some neat places
ngam, the purple on your asters is great (does everybody know I love purple?. and I love your 'slice'!
David_P, super dahlias, especially Who Dun It (hmmm, purple again)
Victor, yep, think I need to find a spot for Coppertina
Celeste, did you have a fun day at Acadia? we should take bets on if you did any climbing. I say yes!
let's see...roses...trying not to show the same one twice.
Miami Moon
Gram.... your to early to guess......I haven't even left yet!! In about an hour..Mallory had a doctors appt. this morning for the rest of her shots she needs for college.
Have fun Celeste. I guess extra shots are needed for LA!!
oops, thought you went yesterday. I'd still bet on it LOL. have a great day :0)
Here's MY sweet autumn. I often admire it from a distance but this is the first year I went right up and took a big whiff - yes, it's sweet, but not penetratingly so. My bedroom window is about 10 ft away with the window open and the autumn breeze wafting in smells... blank.
But it did cover this ugly old stump in a few years. But it also choked out the OTHER clematis on the other side of the stump, also, I think, the honeysuckle that was a little too friendly last year.
Is it comcast? Is it DG? Is it the fact that pixie and I were simul-posting? The sixty-one posts to this thread? Or is it the fact that I type at ~ one word a minute, if it's a short word? Whatever, seems slow this morning...
Thanks to everyone for nice comments.
Pix, I hope you have a lovely trip and bring back some gorgeous pics.
Al that SAC is beautiful and I like the Porcelain Vine too. Do you think they would work together on an arbor? The Sac might be too aggressive, but the color combo would be nice I think. Paine Art Center pic is very nice too. I like the formal look. Do you know what the shrub on the left side is?
Dave that J in P is a very striking color, I have not seen that before, glad you shared it with us.
Grampa I love the roses and buds, all very, very pretty. Your lavender is not shy about growing where it likes the hot dry conditions. A good lesson to us all that things are not hard to grow when they have the right situation. The pink aster is great, so full and loaded with blooms.
Pix nice DL, sunset and fall color. You have a lot up there already. I don't think it will be very bright this year around here because of the lack of rain.
Carrie my comp has been slow this am too, also have comcast.
hmmm. on the other hand other links are not as slow, so maybe it's the combination of the slow comcast and the many posts with many pictures.
???????
mine's been very slow most of the day, too, and I'm on Verizon. could be Dave's server. it's better now.
if we must have autumn, thank goodness for the wonderful colors. pixie will keep us going until it moves south (thanks, pix!) love your evening sky, too.
Victor,
That Sensitive Plant. Do you grow it outside or inside? Is it Mimosa?
Very pretty!
OMG Victor - That bee looks like it's a foot long - you better watch it.
Various answers - I do not know the plant on the left. It is a rose garden and you would think it's a shrub rose, but I'm not sure they have hips yet? The porcelain vine is a lighter slower growing vine for this zone - it has a more invasive reputation in warmer zones I believe.
Hi Kim,
It's Mimosa pudica, a tropical that must be brought inside. It's so cool how the leaves curl up and close when you touch them. Kids love this plant.
and (inquiring minds want to know) have you tried it???? (NOTE: please don't try this at home...IT'S A JOKE. Victor already said it wouldn't work LOL)
V, I only see pics of callicarpa in the fall when the berries are pretty. is it a nice plant the rest of the year? that bee (must be, what, 14-15" long??) is beautiful. don't you just want to pet it's fur? bumblebees seem so harmless just going about their business.
More answers - Gram - your red dahlia is Babylon Purple, don't try to figure that out.
Jan, I'm already sensitive and obedient, so neither of those plants are necessary on me!
Callicarpa gets small pink flowers in the Summer. They're nice but you must be close to see them. The berries are the headliner. They start early, especially 'Early Amethyst'.
Victor, can I elaborate on the sensitive plant?
I have always wanted one of them as a houseplant. Have you overwintered it in NY?
I had some seedlings once but they all turned yellow and died.
I would love to hear about how you care for it as I have always admired them :)
Kim, this is my first time with it so it will be my first overwintering experience.
