What's blooming? #14

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Al - I may have asked you this before (I'm senile). How much property do you have?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Not that big - I think our lot is 65x130. Man those asters spread - they need to be divided(removed) every 2 years or they will take over.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Is that why you have the 'one of each' rule?

My Aster's are finally blooming!!
No name on the tag of this one, anyone want to give it a name?

there have been about 3 blooms on the MG 'Crimson Rambler'. I bought it on sale late in the season because I couldn't manage to grow any from seed (hard to believe, but true!) this is the only one I've caught even part way open. it's supposed to be dark red.

Jan,
I nic my morning glory seeds than soak them over night before planting outside. It helps them to sprout faster.

This was my sad attempt at making a Red,White & Blue fence!

That's not a sad attempt at all. The color combo is very nice together, Celeste!! You should be very proud.

OneW those little guys must keep you hoping I bet. They are too adorable.

Al your mums look great, how do you keep them upright and so tall? Mine were doing good until the last heavy rain knocked them down for the count. I also like how bright and sunny that convulvulus is, just stunning. The hydrangea has a nice clear white color for so late in the season, very crisp.

Pix don't know the name but your aster is a beautiful color and the little viola is a real cutie.

Grampapa all your roses are looking wonderful, they are enjoying the cooler temps here too. That sedum is very delicate in color, what does the foliage look like?

What a pretty shot of the morning light. Love your tree!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I didn't really have anything else to post, sorry.

This weekend will be a trimming and planting weekend. Then, sometime in mid-October we will give everything its blanket for the winter and then catch up on all the record keeping until Spring. *sigh*

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love the photo Candyce...nice tree!

ngam:

Sorry. We were posting at the same time.

I like the tree, too, very much. It's some sort of maple. The leaves don't get green, but a sort ofd brownish-red color. They are the first to fall in the autumn, too, and make for a great mulch!!

And to think that DSIL wanted to cur it down when we first moved here!! As you can see, it provides a lot of shade, and it's a good barrier to the neighbors' view of things. The birds love it as well, hence the two bird feeders.

Thanks Celeste.

Some fall blooms I bought today for the front of the house. I had thrown away all of my container annuals and the front of the house looked bare. They're still in the nursery pots cause mine are all washed and put away and I'm not getting them out for just a couple of weeks. Eleanor

Pixie - you do have flax ;) Don't know the aster ID - pretty much the most common color. Tokajer is looking nice.

ngam - Alma I have a peony ring and a rebar with tie holding it up and it's still busting out, the other ones flop a little bit, but not bad.

Jan - Vancouver looks good - sans the photo ;)~

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Beautiful blooms, Jan! That sedum is so unusual! All so pretty! Vancouver is stunning!

Candyce - What a nice shot out your window. I love how the light is coming through the tree. Very nice!

Celeste - I do the same thing with my MG seeds, but it is difficult to nick them because they are so small. Somehow I get it done. :) That's a nice combo of colors.

Eleanor - nice arrangement of fall mums and pumpkins...really like the old wheelbarrow! Very pretty!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Eleanor I love the wheelbarrow full of pumpkins!!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Beautiful pics everyone and they are your own flowers too!! I bought mine and just plopped them in front of the house!! Thanks for the comments on the wheel barrow. Took the impatiens out of it the other day after a large tree branch fell on them and broke them. Thought it would look nice filled with pumpkins (I didn't grow those either)!! Hope they're not smashed all over the road in the morning. Kids should find something better to do (like gardening) than destroy things!! Eleanor

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah, Eleanor. I agree with you about the kids finding better things to do. I must admit, though, that the kids around here are pretty well behaved.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow! Amazing photos everyone. Jan, I think your rose garden was a success. I love your collages. My garden is very tired. I haven't been home enough to keep up with it, so I really have my work cut out for me tomorrow. I do love this time of the year. The temperatures are perfect!

Quoting:
Not much actually, so this may be the last what's blooming thread until 2008.
I don't like the sound of that!!!

Celeste - perhaps we could talk about what's not blooming - dreams for the spring??

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Eleanor, that's a lovely fall arrangement. I should do something like that, but probably won't get around to it. Is your wheelbarrow old?

Candy, beautiful pic. it's a nice view you have right from your window.

pixie, I love the combo on the mg. I soaked my seeds but didn't nick them. I'll try it next year.

the roses keep coming... this is Gee Whiz
