Is there a problem?

I can't figure this out. I was typing a response, a long response, and when I hit the shift key or any key, it bounced back up and I can't see what I'm typing? Is something going on?

It sounds like you have a virus on your computer...

The same thing happened to me a few days ago when I hit the shift key I think, but I don't think I have a virus. It's not the first time it has happened, but it doesn't happen often. It's just very annoying when you have typed out a lot and lose it all.

No, it wasn't a virus. If it was, it would happen no matter where I went and nothing came up when I do a scan. Machine is clean.

It happened to me once too. I type early in the morning when my fingers are fatter (I guess) and I can do some strange things. I thought it was just me. :)

I'm at a loss; I've never heard of this before now... I can't imagine what would cause it.

Hate to say this but I'm having the same problems. No virus but I have a new computer and assumed it was me not knowing what I was doing. And, I was hitting the shift or the Ctrl key when it happened. This is an intermittent problem for me and has been going on for about a week.

Is it possible your system(s) are interpreting the shift or ctrl key as a signal to refresh the page, and wiping out what you wrote?

I am on windows 98 and dial up.
I usually hit keys by accident and not know which ones I really hit.
I try not to repeat those errors.
But it always happens after typing a long response. Maybe it is an "edit" key.
ha. Or a "critic" key. Yeah, that is it. lol

It happened to me yesterday too. I had to type a response 3 times before it quit disappearing on me. No virus on this end either. We do constant virus sweeps.

I am wondering in my case, exactly what I have hit. I have teeny fingers, but can somehow manage to hit the wrong key, or sometimes inbetween keys.
Maybe shift/cont or shift/cap, something over in that area. I mean to make a capital letter when it happens to me.

That is really strange. It has only happened to me once.

I finally got all the way out and went back in. Got it to go that time. I figured it was just a fluke

So what do you see when your typed text disappears? Are you still in DG? Are you still in the same area, but just with a blank reply box?

Yes I was still in the same spot. Just a totally blank reply box. That's the only time it ever happened, so I didn't think twice about it. Figured the system belched or something! LOL!

I've had that happen a couple of times. After the first one (because of which there is now a large whole in the ceiling where I went ballistic!!), I stopped panicing. Now if it happens I just hit the "back" button and it brings it all back to me. Just a thought....

That's what makes me think it's a browser issue. What browser(s) are each of you using?

I have IE, but with AOL it's a hybrid IE. It rarely happens with me, I have thought I must have hit something I shouldn't have but it's mostly when I hit the Shift and a letter to make a capital so I thought I must have hit the Ctrl with a letter which acted as a command, but I think it has happened before with hitting the space bar too.

I end up with a blank too, it seems to 'jump' suddenly when hitting the Shift etc. I have tried the back button but if I remember correctly it took me to the Forums list first, then the Home page with another 'back', and that is probalby not the same way I went forward.

Microsoft IE....don't have a lot of choice out here...we are very remote.

Islandshari, I don't think your remoteness will keep you from trying other browsers.

All...if you have access to (or want to experiment with downloading it), I'd recommend trying Mozilla - it's free, easy to download, and comes with some handy-dandy pop-up blockers ;o)

I have Windows XP, have used Mozilla firefox for about 2 yrs now, don't have a toolbar, but do use the java script thing add on. I am the only one now to use this computer, as my daughter received a laptop from her grandparents last Christmas. I would be typing, hit the shift key or hit whatever letter key I wanted to type and it would bounce up. The page would bounce up, my cursor appeared to still be down below in the reply box where it should be. I was able to type, but I could see the cursing flashing in the text I'd already typed. Because the page wouldn't stay down where it should be. I then opened up another window, went to another websites forum, typed a long reply in there and it didn't happen there. Only here. When I came back, it was working, so I continued typing. Then it started again, so I again went to the other site and had no problems what so ever. Came back here, still had the problem, so just finished my reply without saying all that I had to say. I was in the kitchens forum. I then came here and posted my question. I haven't had problems since then.

I agree. I had already run all my various scans before it happened and I ran them again. I'm clean. I ran them again today just because I've got nothing better to do ;) and again, I'm clean.

Just a thought, but do you have the google toolbar on your computer? I had all kinds of problems when I had that, but since I got rid of it, things have been working much better.

No, no toolbars for me. I don't have any browser hijackers either to the best of my knowledge.

I haven't been able to connect up e-mail so no way anything could have slipped in from that way but once I get the e-mail client installed, I will have it scanned coming in and going out complete with heuristics for wild cards. I ran a few more scans for malware and checked all my virus definitions and they're up to date.

I'm really sitting tight here waiting to address some other issues with this new computer so no great rush. Sort of nice to know it isn't just me.

Joan, I had the same probs with the Google toolbar. Got rid of it ASAP.

Here we go again. Just lost another post that I know I clicked send on. I made sure to make sure I had clicked send. This is not happening anywhere but at DG. It happened on IE7.

I'll set this computer up to run all types of scans right now so that I can view results tomorrow morning.

I will repeat........I have NO toolbars. None. Nadda. Zip.

I don't have any either. Brand new computer and there have never been any on here either and I have no BHOs either.

If you will go back to the Dave's Garden forum, you will see many people discussing similar problems...maybe it's sunspots? :-) That's what our IT dept out here tells everyone! Not to belittle the problem, cuz I get crazy frustrated when my pooter acts up, but somebody sure let the gremlins loose!

It's really a question for Dave. It does sound like something in I.E. is fighting with something in DG's text boxes..but I have no idea what might be the root cause.

I have had the same problem and posted a different question. I am typing away and I either hit between keys or shift or something. I am not sure. page jumped and everything was gone I hit back and could not retrieve anything.
I do have mozilla but I fix cookies and come here and it tells me I have name and password ok but not accepting cookies. I fixed it once several months ago but same thing again. So I haven't tried to fix it. Too bothersome to keep looking up how to do it. Somethings I can't hit save in my brain it always escapes with one of my few marbles left. ROTFLOL
So I am using IE, no tool bar, page is cleared and when I scrolled it back down everything was gone.
I thought it was just me. I will pay attention but I hit something to day but not sure where I was. I know I was on here a good while. But in the bottom middle of my screen my favorites list shot up. I couldn't figure that out as it is not located in the middle on the bottom. and it sure doesn't come up from the bottom.

also when I am typing it is as if I have clicked on start menu and it flies up. I don't have any shortcuts programmed???
I am not sure one of those would do it but I do not have my fingers up high enough to hit those. I have to click on it to close. Not sure where I am when that happens. Could be on here. I just figured I was doing something wrong and didn't pay that much attention. I will know pay closer attention.

I've been having problems with D-mail for the last week or so. When I hit enter to start a new paragraph, everything I previously typed disappears. My operating system is Windows XP Pro & my browser is Firefox 2.0.0.6. Sometimes when I hit the shift key to capitalize a letter, everything I previously typed disappears. I have to start my D-mail all over again. This is only happening when I'm replying to a D-mail. I never had problems before. I run anti-virus & anti-spyware programs daily & also have real-time protection for both. They always come up clean. I do not have this problem with any other forums I visit.

Yes, I just hit the shift key and lost everything I was typing here too. Seems as if it's happening more frequently now.

How many of us are on IE7?

BHO = browser helper object, sometimes they are legitimate and are a real help but it's been my experience most are nothing but trouble.

I've had the same disappearing act when writing emails using msn - figured I hit a mystery button.
I teach our nursing software program at work ( I'm a nurse - not techy at all). When some of the staff say weird things happen, I often think it is a user issue rather than a software issue, so when the disappearing act happened to me, I figured I did something odd!
I have gotten into the habit of copying before sending - of course, then it doesn't usually happen.

i wasn't done writing so I didn't think to copy as It doesn't happen that much.

I have IE. Could a virus have been planted on the sight? Don't know enough about computers to know what makes them tick.
