New Thread Morning Glories 2007 #25

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Found this volunteer along my back fence this morning. Anyone have any idea what cultivar it might be? Sorry the photo isn't that great. Can't get close enough to it to get a better shot. (Though I will be tagging it!) :-)

This one is Solid Chocolate Silk next to the Cocoa Chocolate blooms (left) for comparison of the two! As the day goes on they both turn more chocolate color. Love them!

One of Karen's Purple Blizzards. The blooms are getting lighter with more of the extreme blizzard pattern in it. Very, very nice vine!!! :-)

It`s always good to see more new blooms each and every day. I`ll bet everyone has enough pictures to last all this winter! That`s a thought.

This one is from some tan seeds growing with my blue willow dianthus. It may or may not carry for the trait but they look like watercolor paintings. I thought Arlan might like this one. It looks like it doesn`t know if it wants to be kikyo or round in shape and a lot of the flowers show the petals in the middle and some are single flowers.

This was sold t me as shibori leaf. It turnedout to be a mixture of traits including some variegated leaves, dwarf plants, tall plants, shibori leaf with solid flower and a few had the two traits combined with the yellow/green split color leaf and the shibori flower. I`m working on segregating the characteristics and seeing if I can get some consistency going with the seeds. Time will tell.

bye/bye for now,

Karen

Ronnie - BEAUTIFUL!!!

I am wondering ..... your Hama Ginga and this one of mine look similar. What do you think? Maybe one and the same?

Emma - Could you have sent me some Hama Ginga seeds?

Karen05, interesting to see your blue willow parentwood flower. I also have a blue willow line that I purchased this year. The circular flowered plants have lighter colored flowers than yours and did not have the petaloid elements. They did often have the irregular edge that your flower shows. Mine do not have tan seeds, although I did get one plant from my lavender line that produced tan seeds (original seed was black) and had pink flowers.

Here is one of the flowers from my blue willow system earlier this year: http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/si/130551/

Keep the seeds from each plant separate, as a plant may or may not carry the desireable traits. Upon grow out of each seed lot, you may discover the willow and/or duplicate. You will then know that the rest of that seed lot has the same probability. Likewise, you can eliminate seed lots, when the traits don't show up after an appropriate grow out.

I continue to enjoy all the great flowers shared here! - Arlan

Hi Arlan,

I thought the unknown tan seeds I bought were purpureas! They turned out to be Surprise! I got one willow dianthus in the lot of 8 seeds. There were also the lighter colored round flowers you speak of and darker somewhat kikyo shaped with the whirlpool leves and petals in the middle in the batch. All the seeds I have harvested are small tan seeds. I have also used as much of the pollen on the willow dianthus flowers as I could find that was usable. I`m growing another batch resulting from the crosses directly with the willow dianthus. These are to be saved for next spring when the fun starts all over again. I hope to build a supply so I can share some of these and do some trades. I`m working on it!

What a great hobby! Karen

This a rough presentation of a idea for making cards out of pictures of JMG.

Thanks Antoinette and Emma!

Emma - Your Plum Splash is amazing! What I had marked as such must not be as it is a solid color, no patterns. But I have another seed or two, so will try again. I just love your PS blooms!!!!

Thanks Becky re my Plum Splash and Plum Frost.

I didn't grow my Plum Splash this year, but do plan to next year to see how they grow out.

Antoinette,
