Pictures to share!

LOL I posted pictures of the Kohleria! Here's a picture for you, Gail! You can join in the chatting, too, ya know! :o)

Snow sent me some absolutely beautiful Episcias! :o) They're all tucked in under a dome, happily rooting (I hope!) Thank you so much, Snow! :o)

Rain when I transplanted my Kohlerias from the solid cups they came in I found little green and growing plants just like your showing way down in the bottom of a few of them. I took one and planted it on top of the dirt in it's own little cup and it croaked so I guess it needed to make it's own way to the top. LOL

I need to take some more pictures as I have a couple of them that have sent two or three new starts up. A few are setting buds too, finally! I'll try and get some decent pictures of them to compare with yours. I sure do find that the leaves don't stay nice, kinda dry and yucky around the edges, or bruised looking in general. Probably just me!

I topped all of mine to get them to fill out faster and only ended up seeing two blooms, the rest busted at the abuse. I tried and tried to get some decent pictures of the blooms but I don't think I ever did. Let me go look.....Well this is the best I did...Mother's Lipstick bloom..... and it was not close to what it really looked like because it had a beautiful yellow throat!

I do think that the bloom on Scarlett Ribbons is the prettiest episcia bloom I've seen, and she's getting ready to open another one! Although Pink Panther's bloom is very pretty too!

And here is Hirsuta with three new starts that have come up along with the top I took off. The original stalk that I took the top from shriveled up and died for some reason!

Bmedel - I think your episcia is Star of Bethlehem (chimera blossom)

Raingazer - that Momo blossom close up is a great photo. Such good detail even to the clarity of the white whiskers on top and on the stems.

Now tell me this isn't cute...Rob's Cool Fruit. What do you think gg?

Brenda, when I repotted 'Nicole's Smile' I found a couple rhizomes with plants just starting, one slightly bigger than the other. I potted them up and the bigger one is fine, but the smaller one dried up about halfway up the stem. I don't know if I crushed it and just didn't realize it or what. Maybe it will sprout again.

'Mother's Lipstick' is beautiful! They're all so pretty. I really like Kohlerias. Don't know why I shied away from them for so long. Probably because I didn't have any other rhizomatous Gessies and wasn't sure how easy or difficult they'd be. Not finding them to be too hard. I botched the cut-back job, but I'll do better next time. :o) The cuttings root very easily, too!

Thank you for the compliment on P. momo, Snow. It took about a dozen shots to get that one! LOL I wish my camera did better at close-up shots, but repeated efforts will usually pay off. The very close shots are some of my favorites, because like you said, the fuzz and whiskers show up so much better in them. I love those little details!

Rob's Cool Fruit is so pretty! Do you find most of the Rob's varieties to be pretty easy to grow?

It sure does look exactly like that bloom Snowrose!!!! I bought this on e-bay labeled as Scarlet Ribbons but with no bloom picture so I didn't even know what the bloom was supposed to look like! One of those deals where I just grabbed something else from the seller in order to get a better shipping deal :)))) I'll take a mislabled episcia with this bloom any day!

I'm going to go get a couple pictures of the foliage to compare...yep, looks like the same foilage too. I now have a Star of Bethlehem!! :))))

Brenda.............what a beautiful bloom...............have to go back and read the name

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

My star of Bethlehem had ugly foliage and I don't remember the bloom looking like that.......have to go look at my episcias now and look at pictures of my own........

Sure is pretty, Brenda! :o)

Gail you sent me a Star of Bethlehem. It survived the mishap, though it doesn't look great, but it's budding out now. I can't wait to see the blooms! :o)

So with a little research ...

Description of... SCARLET RIBBONS large, showy grower brown, pink, silver leaves red orange flowers

Not at all what I have and I am so happy!! I have three with the red orange blooms. I like the blooms on Star of Bethlehem much better!

Description of Star of B from the same page as above...mine matches this perfectly. Thanks Snowrose!!

STAR OF BETHLEHEM pebbly bronze leaves pinkk star flowers outlined yellow small grower.

This episcia hasn't ever sent out a stolen but it is pretty leggy so I'm going to top it and get another one started that way....after the blooms fade :))))

A shot taken out in natural light of the bloom that just opened.

Oh ... Episcia envy here! Lovely .... and I really like that E. Star of Bethlehem!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, your episcia is Star of Bethlehem, Bemedel. It has one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful flowers of all the episcias.

Cream blooms with pink stripes. Very dark chocolate-brown foliage.

The description from the site you linked is better than the one I found Snowrose. They are cream blooms with pink stripes and yellow throats. If this is as showy as Episcias get then I'm more than pleased to have one of my own!

Yep... LOVE that 'Star of Bethlehem'! Great blooms Brenda! That is one which I don't have, and has been on my wishlist for a while now.

Amy... I just started with the Kohlerias myself. You sent one cutting, and I ordered a rhizome of 'Beltane' off eBay. I got some advice from Keyring on planting the rhizome when I received it.... but I'm thinking there is a whole thread on the rhizome thing here somewhere. Something about each "scale" off the rhizome is a vaible source for a new plant. Gotta see if I can find that info...

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

That was quick! Here is the thread Keyring started that goes in depth about the rhizomes...

Great searching! I was about to go look for it...now I'll just go read it! LOL Thanks!

How is that cutting doing? It probably should have rooted by now. :o)
