Here is another GRAY SHIBORI from a different vine.
I haven't even looked yet to see which it is coming from.

Thanks Jackie, Skimper, Emma, and Karen on the nice compliments for my "unknown" MG vine.

After looking at Joanne's Sunrise Serenade, I do think that you are correct Emma ..... that my vine is NOT a SS but instead a Feathered variety of some kind. And it is a rosy pink, not red color. (The color in my photo is showing the color that I see with my eyes.)

Someone here had posted how the MG blooms were comparable to roses. (Though the post is now gone.) When I saw the feathered blooms, that was the first thing that popped into my head ..... small rose blooms! LOL!

Ronnie - I just have to tell you that this one is amazing!!! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3899412 I think everyone here concurs about it's unique colors and patterns! Really BEAUTIFUL!!!!

In truth, I would have a very hard time picking a favorite. They are all truly lovely! It's exciting to see what is blooming each day on this thread.

The rodents didn't destroy every single vine as I had feared as I saw several blooms this morning, but can't get close enough for decent photos. The vines seem to like the partial shade of my over-grown garden beds. It's like a hot sauna in my yard currently. (Thank goodness for A/C in the house!)

Here is a photo of what I believe is Akatsuki no Umi. Blooms seem to be smaller than usual. It is now in partial shade. Would that make the blooms smaller or is it a fertilizer issue?

Here is another that was labeled "Plum Tie-dye" during the Spring planting. (Though the ID might be incorrect.) It must have been a seed that dropped on the ground from the original vine because I didn't plant any more MGs in that area (and all the vines died 2 months ago from the heat). This one just showed up ..... love it!!! :-)

The Lavender Beauty from LousianaMark just keeps going and going and going! I've had the best results with this particular vine of any that I have grown so far.

Karen - This one is really pretty! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3901970

becky gardener, Thanks!

Emma, Your Gray Haze is very dramatic looking.

Here is one that looks rather washed out in the picture but you can see it is a dark purple with a definite blue stripe on it. Too bad it isn`t a real good picture but still neat the way the color looks.

I started about 16-20 new vines. Each is a different MG cultivar. I am growing them in a plastic planter with some good moisture control potting soil. When I planted seeds in the Spring, the vines were kinda scrawny, but these are coming up quite lush and large. I think I may have underestimated their growth and health. And I have a horrible feeling that I didn't plant them in a big enough container. Is it too late to transplant into separate pots? If not, what size containers would y'all recommend I transplant them into? Many of the cultivars have leaves the size of my hand or larger! I'm quite shocked at the size!!! WOW! I had no idea that they got that big!!!!

Becky, Very pretty Lavendar Beauty, a wonderful color.

Karen, Gorgeous purple with the blue stripe

Beckygardener - they are called Hama Purple, and the seeds were from Japan. Of course, I'm coming to expect the colors not to appear the same as they do on the packet . . . these flowers are more a velvety-blue color.

These are the only active vines I've got left flowering. The vines I've got started are just barely getting their first set of real leaves, so I've got some time in between. Except, of course, for the I. quamoclit vines (thanks, Ron!) I have going at my mother's place (it's nice to have an extra yard!). They are overgrowing. The pic below is from last week. Here is a pic from this morning: http://davesgarden.com/tools/blog/viewimage.php?did=34732. You can see the first pink flower I've seen in the mix so far.

Syrumani - Your Hama Purple do look more blue! Nice!!
Funny you should post a photo of your Cardinal Climber vines! I have some growing in 2 areas along my fence with some Moonvines! I finally got a bloom today. It's the standard red. I would love to see a photo of your pink bloom! I hear there is a white blooming cultivar of this vine, too!

Added to say: Access was denied to me to see your photo of the pink bloom! Bummer! Here's the link I think you were trying to post:

Your flowers look more star-like. Mine looks more round! Strange.

Beckygardener - I don't know why the picture wouldn't let you look at it, but you worked around it! These are a Cypress mix (I. quamoclit), not a Cardinal Climber (I. sloteri(?)) . . . that is why mine are star-ish, and yours are round. I did try Cardinal Climber last year, but they apparently did not like where I planted them!

Sazanami variant.

Oooh, skimper - I like those two - very pretty! Your Sazanami variant is what I envisioned my Hama Purples looking like!

Unknown Mg looks similar to chocolate silk,a richer color.

Syrumani - I googled I. quamoclit and got a photo of Cardinal instead of Cypress, which explains my confusion. Apparently that website posted the wrong plant photo. I thought the foliage on your vine looked more like Cypress. (I am still learning the Scientific/Binomial names of all the MG vines.) I planted some Cypress but the rodent got them. :-(

Skimper - Love this one!!! All of yours are just gorgerous! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3902536

The wind split my fujimusume.A good size bloom.I like the lavender color and size of bloom.

I'll have to dig out one of my photos that I got as a sport of my Plum Frost.

Thanks Karen Jackie and Karla re: Gray Haze.
Of all of the Gray Blooms that I have gotten, Gray Haze came from seeds that I got from Gail 'golgi'
GAIL WHERE ARE YOU?

Karla,
Very nice

Emma - Your "Apricot Candy" I. sloteri are adorable! Love the yellow centers in the little orange flowers! Happy-looking blooms aren't they?! lol Are those vines from another country? I've never seen them listed anywhere in the U.S. until you just posted them here. The flowers also look bigger than the red that I have. (I am comparing leaves to the flowers.) I really like how they look! :-)

Skimper - This one has a nice color and pattern! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3902622

Ya got it going on for sure with all your blooming beauties!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Becky,

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks y'all for the kind compliments on my Purple Tie-dye. I'm just thrilled that some vines survived the rodent attack! :-)

Emma - I bet the color of my purple is what is showing in your beautiful photos. When I took the photo, it was in the shade and a bit darker there. Since my Spring seed beds are all in full bloom right now, it's hard to get close to any vines at the back of the fence for good photos and there is more shade there now from the taller plants. (Though it looks as though the vines are happier in the shade these days with the heat index!)

In this photo you can see the Lavendar Beauty climbing up the trellis in the back and the White Hyacinth Bean and unknown Feathered MG towering above my fence. :-)
