Today's Weather in Your Garden

Assonet, MA(Zone 6b)

We're right next door to Rehoboth. I think if we took a deep breath we'd drown. It's an indoor day for me. :)

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I did venture out, just came in from staking some dahlias which I did already but they are growing so tall had to use a longer stake. Also had to cut back the Ivy, started getting under the clapboards This is what happens when you take 6 weeks vacation.
Am soaking wet, had a shower already, lol right daiey, I nearly did drown

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah, when it gets like this, it's a double-shower day!

We are under a severe storm watch for later. Looking at the radar, just about everyone here on this list is under a watch of some kind or other!

I took the youngest 'grands' out to the wading pool, after the sun had gone behind a tree so that there was some shade. I watched them very jealously! Of course, it's too hot for me to walk the 100 yards across the street to the lake - at least not with two very young kiddos in tow!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

there has not been any rain nor any thunder here but suddenly from 91' it is now 78', feels good

6:42 pm Getting pounded Lightning and Rain. 1 dog shivering and panting.

Upstate, NY(Zone 5a)

The sky is rumbling!! I hope this means relief is in the future!! I have a feeling this storm is going to be a dusey

(Zone 4a)

Hahaha a lot of you make me laugh cause you are Americans with normally much warmer weather than us Canadians but it just goes to show that Canadian's have just as warm weather if not warmer than some of you Americans LOL

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh so nice right now... but it was muggy and muggy... no gardening today...

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

We're still above 70 this morning. I actually did go and look. We lucked out with the storms - heard there was a lot of damage just north of us. All of our storms were quick in and out with no winds or hail and lightening not too close. Lots of distant rumblings for hours though. Hope none of you were hit to hard and have damage. Eleanor

Upstate, NY(Zone 5a)

Grammy that surprises me. I thought you guys were getting NAILED. We had strong winds, and lots of lightening. The lightening scared the crap out of me. My husband was hysterical because of high I jumped at a couple of those claps of lightening, sounded like it hit something close.

I thought the storm moved north of us to what I thought was your direction. I'm glad it missed you. I was thinking of you last night. After the f3 tornado that went through here in '95 storms scare me. Especially ones with high wind and lots of lightening.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No storms here last night and it's 70 here this morning and still humid!

I guess after I went to bed we had thunder & lightening but very little rain and no wind.

dpoitras - thanks for the concern but as it said in the paper Glens Falls was just nicked by the storm. A few miles north and they really got it. Don't blame you for being scared. I treat storms with much respect (in other words I'm scared too) and usually prepare if I have a chance - moving deck furniture, putting the car in the garage, etc. A tornado ripped through the Syracuse area a few years back on a Labor Day weekend and closed down the State Fair. My father's farm was hit really bad - trees down all over and their vegetable stand was no where to be found!! The metal roof on one of their barns was ripped off with nails all over - I got a flat tire from one of the nails and I was out there several weeks later. Eleanor

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Here is a bad photo that I scanned of the trees down in my Dad's yard. There used to be a row of spruce trees to block out the barns but only a few are left standing. Does anyone remember the year of that storm? Eleanor

Here is another photo of a tree uprooted on the farm - that is not my Father's house but my Grandmother's old house.

Just come back in from watering the rose bed. No rain here for a while. Its still muggy and now the sun is burning off the haze. Starting out at 68 degrees now. Would like some rain but not the high winds and hail. Hope everyone is fine and only got a good soaking. :)

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

And last the barn metal roof that was ripped off. Yes, I know this is not today's weather and I'm off the subject!! LOL Eleanor

p.s. - I'm not laughing at the violence of weather but my ramblings!!

77 and humid here at 10 AM. Major t - storms are in the forecast.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

10:30 AM ~ It's warm and humid ...
72 degrees with 94% humidity

There's a slight breeze and it's overcast off and on. T-storms (scattered) predicted for today.

We did get good rain last night, so no watering of the gardens for me today. (hooray!)
Lots of rummblings, too, but the lightning wasn't too close. Most of the power of the storms was north of us.

Assonet, MA(Zone 6b)

Would love to have Major T-storms, but have to settle for General Muggyness. :)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

82 temperature and 68 humidity with the chance of rain shown at 50%. I better get moving quickly.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hard to move quickly in this weather!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'll sit quickly, then, Victor and keep cutting back the daylilies. I'm finding lots of proliferations.

(There's your opportunity, Victor!)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's too big a word for me.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

pirl, do you cut the leaves also?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor - there I was toiling and sweating for hours waiting to see what your quick wit would conjure up this time and......nothing! Must be a slow day for you.

Maria - yes, I cut them back to either 2 or 3" (or whatever I feel like) or to new green growth.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor - if I start the rumours myself - then I am responsible for what others believe. That's my point, American media, wittingly or otherwise, project a very negative image of Americans - and it's simply not true - Americans are great! But in searching for a story, the media focuses on the extremes, resulting in a very skewed image.

Pirl - what do you mean "cutting back on the daylilies?" Is there something I should be doing?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I cut them back, taking the ugly old leaves off. New growth appears and they'll look fine until frost.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

But mine don't have any ugly leaves . . . should they?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Michaela, that is the point. The media does what it wants and does project a negative image of the U.S., among its many other faults. My response - who cares? If people are ignorant enough to put so much faith in media, then I don't really care what they think anyway. It's not the job of Americans to control the media.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Okay :-)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Seandor. The outer old leaves should be ugly unless your plants are very new - purchased since June.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Weather change should come through tonight. Should be great the next couple of days. About 80 and low humidity.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Hurray and hurrah!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Perfect weeding weather!
Heaven knows, I have enough weeding to do!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Weeding is fundamental.

North Augusta, ON

I have the weeding down to a science....I have a little dog, who needs to be taken out 4 or 5 times a day...every time I take her out we walk along a different section of garden....she does her business and I get the weeds pulled......at a point now where it's hard to find a weed to pull!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Weeing and weeding, perfect together!

North Augusta, ON

LOL

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I have to do that Pirl, the bottom leaves here look as if they plants are about to go to flower heaven.

Victor, I have no faith in any midia for many years, ot most anything they throw at us including stuff the call art, music or any shows, I do not think it is funny to see a kid smart mouthing adults not to mention all the rediculous, lying ads. Just give me old books and old music to please my sensitivities.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I agree with Maria! Give us our old reliables and we're happy.
