No, but that is a good one. Will have to remember that. Glad you recognized my "accent".
Underwater Gardens #4
How could I not??? ☺
ooooowweee....a thunder storm just came up. Wonderful. We need the rain. Listening to Bro. IZ.....just chillin. John, hope your hand is not giving you misery. Beautiful rain....life giving rain.
♫Listen to the rythm of the falling rain...♫ Enjoy it my friend!
That was way too short.....the sun is out....pooh. Still got IZ.
Ginko huh?? I will have to look for that at the health food store across the street from where I work LOL At least I will not completely miss it with your great descriptions and pics..... :^)
Happy to oblige..... boy I just read that post, and I think my fingers must have been broken in sympathy with John's hand. you instead of your; with instead of while....honest friends...I really do speak better than that!
Boy this time the thread zoomed by, till the end .....then we sort of hit a stall. So many different topics, so many different emotions....wowzers! So, I guess to put this one to bed so to speak, I'll put a pic or too on, and maybe John will as well, then we'll see if we should keep going. So, with no further ado - all these little tiny "light sparks" are fish! Hanging around the cafeteria.....
Glub! Glub! Glub! Thanks Shari for posting that photo. They all look so hungry! No wonder they hang around that cafe!
Life has been passing us by here without seeing the great underwater shots. I've missed them, but with everything that's been happening, weatherwise, etc., well, I didn't want to pester anyone about it. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this beautiful world!
Janet
I'm doing great Shari! And yourself? I miss John's spectacular photos also. Both of you are so lucky to have the best of both worlds, right at your "fingertips"!
That coral looks to be "home" to a plethora of aquatic life. I've always wanted to use that word and finally found a place I could do it! HAHAHAHA It reminds me of a piece of coral that I bought at an estate sale. I took notes on the pieces (there were 6-7) but now can't remember what info goes with what fossil. etc. Lordy that is so typical of me.
Janet
Funny thing....I used "plethora" in an article I just submitted yesterday! Some great words just don't get used often enough ya know? This woulldn't have been one you could buy...its probably 8-9 ft high on a 20 ft bed...and probably 7-8 ft across just on the mound! Probably damaged by an anchor a while back, which is why you can now see the different formations. One of my DH's duty's in the scuba club is to set out buoys for the divers to clip to so that this kind of thing doesn't happen.
Shari,
Just reading about your home in the September 2007 issue of the National Geographic Traveler magazine.
A story called "America's Best Kept Secret."
"Few people know of our close ties to a spangle of barely visited pacific isles stretching beyond Hawaii to Asia's doorstep"
They have a dive photo of the shipwreck Tse Yuen Yui off Rota, in the Northern Mariana Islands - wow is the water ever clear! Sounds like a truly wonderful place!
Hi Cath! Thanks for the head's up...I'll try to get the mag. That's actually very coincidental...the article I was just mentioning to Janet was about Kwaj! It took me forever to do, because there was so darn much to say about out here! Probably won't be published here in DG till October some time, but you might want to keep an eye out for it. And I was a good girl - only one underwater shot! Ha Ha!
You might get more folks hooked on the tropicals, were you to add a couple more! :-)
Nah - I did one better - I posted a link to us in the article! Ha Ha!
So glad you are back with us. What a coincidence....trying to get John hooked up with National G. and here you are. Will have to get the magazine tonight. I know you say JB is the cameraman but are any of the posts your pictures from a while back?
Been trying to get the seeds laid out today. Don't know what some of them are. (hanging my head in shame). Only ones I really, really recognize are canna and read in one of your posts that those are plentiful on Kwaj already. Still time. Need you here tonight to assist the chef......one of your famous dishes would be just fine.
Should you decide to close this thread down.....you just gotta come up with another one with underwater pics. We are addicted and have been patiently waiting for you and John to have a break. You are both so much more than just underwater pictures but they sure are a treat. Nuf said. LouC
Okay, better now...detectives and cops have left for the day....whether or not anything comes from this is doubtful....nothing to fingerprint, no witnesses....oh well....will go back to manicuring the hedges with some manual sheers....might be good therapy for my hand anyway....just sucks that a 500 dollar tool was pinched for a 25 dollar hit of powder.....sad really...
okay, it appears that general consensus is that this thread is closing, I will make my final post here with the same image I started it with, only this one is a much rarer whiteball, only a few around and I know where they live!!
see y'all someplace else
j
Ahh Darlin...what a nice verbal hug! 'swhy you're so special...you know how to make others feel special. Any and all seeds will be wonderful for my Christi garden....no shame - surprises!! Made a black bean and cheese dip for a party the other night...only way to get JB to eat black beans. So good for you, but he prefers pintos...well, so do I, ha ha. But this dip is yummy and went fast so I guess others liked it too. I'll post it over in our comfort food thread.
I'm hoping John will feel like posting today...he always gets such great shots to start the threads with. We'll just keep going on here, till we at least hear from him.
YeaH!!! He's back! You sure have our sympathies friend John! What are you going to post for the next thread???? Don't overdo on the clipping, you want to exercise the hand, not wear it out!!
Any chance to put all those great photo's on a Phanfare website, so we could review like a slide show?
Just a thought.
C
Dave needs to develop a community typing thingy. You and I post the same thought on different threads while you and John are posting to each other at the same time.....great minds run on the same track.
Just don't close "underwater" down.....please, transfer...new name.
It's not raining and I have about an hour of daylight. Gotta get some of the gayfeather in the ground before it rains again tonight. Be back a little later.
just got an email from dave....a group of us are going to be testing a beta file sharing system that will allow us to upload up to 2 gigs of photos, create a friends' list, allow any or all to view images, etc....sort of like flickr but better....if after the trial run with 45 folks, like myself, they will look at all the feedback, good and not so good, and make a decision as to whether it will be opend to the entire DG community.....we await on final instructions via email to our archived email addresses, currently setting up accounts to those involved in the test.....will advise as info becomes available....
j
I love the photos....but I enjoy our commeraderie just as much. My days would not be the same without you guys! Will we still be able to chat and stuff on the new program John? Or will our comments show up as threads like they do for the articles??
I believe this will be an addition to the site....everything as it is now will remain the same....we can still fuss and fight, kiss and hug, moan and laugh..(not outloud) share life as we do daily....this will be a separate button or tab at the side or top I presume...as mentioned, as we receive details on how to upload and how to set the sharing system up, we will be able to invite friends and family to view the files, the system will allow you to block people from viewing, allow people to view, it will automatically hook you up with folks with similar interests/plants/gardens, etc...all of us in the tropical gardening section coulld have access to all the files that share similar interests...does any of this make sense??? I am confused myself at this point.....gotta go check the temp. in the beer fridge...be right back....
j
Feeling anxious. Absolutely cannot loose you two. Once you have posted on one thread you will not want to duplicate on another. Waaaa.....
About the clippers.....would assume that there is a small population of people on the island that would use such a tool and probably not of the exact same ones around......just a thought......sort of tool around town and look for the landscape trucks. We have at least 25 different companies in our little 7 block community every week. Any of them could hike whatever they need from someone else and who would know. On the Dallas tv news just last night they were warning to keep your garage closed even if you are in the yard. $700. lawnmowers are just taking off all by their lonesome.
I would love the opportunity to see those great underwater photo's in a different format. I keep trying to get my husband under the water and can't think of a better way then pictures like Johns!
Hope I get a chance to see them all.
Cheers

That worm would be a varigated crown feather duster worm.....different from the split crown i believe.....just a hunch....does the term fish heads and rice mean anything???? sorry, went to the late 60's Asia for a second....
We have to keep faith, pray for our transgressors...even though the above thought is easier to think for those that take advantage of others hard work....is it me or is this spiraling out of control...
not for me to get off track....but this is what i came home to tonight....a bright spot in my less than happy 2 days....at least the bastard didn't dig it out of the ground to go along with his new hedge trimmer....
not posted anywhere else on dg.....sample sent for id purposes only to an expert.....sorry this has nothing to do with underwater, as the title of this thread implies...but, this thread is finished as far as i can tell....look for 5 coming up....next couple of days.....thanks for the support we have come to appreciate on an hourly basis....
j
John and Shari,
Please don't let the Underwater Garden "Theater" die. It's become such a wonderful part of my DG experience. I've learned so much and truly enjoyed the companionship and fellowship of all of the folks that post here. The water is so clear in the photos that you all post. I really appreciate each and every one of the adventures that you guys share with us. It's ALMOST as good as "being there"! All these beautiful shots sure makes ME want to go underwater, and I have never liked even the thought of those "big fish with big teeth"!
Cath, do you have photos to share also? Didn't I read that you are a diver? Or did I just dream that??? Even without photos, we'd love to know more about your experiences and adventures. Our imaginations are pretty vivid! HAHAHAHAHA
Janet
John Congratulations! It's beautiful! And I love the scent of these with more yellow ...heavenly! Oh enjoy my friend.
Janet as long as we have folks wanting to see pics, we will keep posting. I just don't want to bore people with "home movies" ya know what I mean? (BTW - did the Ixora cutting ever root for you?)
Yes Cath - please add your adventures!
WOW John!!!
That is breathtaking! Love that shade of yellow! We must have posted simultaneously or something because I didn't see your post when I posted.
Shari,
Sadly, no. It didn't. BUT, I did buy one at Lowe's once I realized that the cuttings wasn't going to make it. And it's done beautifully!!!!
Will someone please post a link here to #5 whenever it gets going? Sometimes it's days before I realize it's happened and I feel slighted! HAHAHAHA
Me, too.
LouC
Gals,
Yes I am a diver, certified in BVI 1996, Advanced in Florida Keys 2004. Trying to coordinate with my dive buddy to take the Rescue Diver next year, our husbands do not dive....boo hoo. My husband and I do get the opportunity to travel a fair bit, so I always try and take the opportunity to dive if I can, at least twice a year, warm water only!
Fortunately or unfortunately, I have way to many hobbies and not enough time to indulge in them all!
I love photography, but to take the really great pictures like John and Shari's husband you need specialized underwater equipment (and have a good eye and be very talented!)
I am so distracted with all the beauty under the sea when diving, I am just happy when I find my way back to the dive boat on time!
But I love to see the great shots others take, and it makes me so want to get back down under (the water)!
I love the beauty of mother nature in all her forms, on land and in the sea.
Looking forward to following your next threads.
Cheers

Oh WOW! Cath, that reminds me of a commercial I saw last night. Samsung, I believe, and their ad about how black their blacks are, making other colors come alive. There were koi in that ad and they just jumped out of my screen when I saw it. Your trigger fish did the same thing when I opened up the thumbnail. Absolutely grand!!! You have a wonderful talent. Please share more of your work!
BTW, did you know there is an Artisans forum here on Dave's. It would be a wonderful place to share your work also. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/artisans/all/
Janet
Janet,
Thanks for the tip on the other forum. Amazing talent there!
I just paint for fun, my tigger fish was my first attempt after 30 years, so I have lots of "brushing" up to do.....
Cheers
C
Having never seen one, that fella looks pretty real to me! He looks like he could swim out of the canvas and take a hunk out of my finger as I reach out to touch. HAHAHAHA 30 years is a long time to not pick up a brush. Some talents are born in the blood. You got it baby!!! :-)
Every artist I've ever known underrates themselves, regardless of their medium. Talent like yours deserves and demands to be shared with those that appreciate the craft and not "horded to yourself until perfect". Only one man ever walked the earth that was perfect. :-) Please don't take that the wrong way. It was meant with the utmost respect for your art. That goes for the photos as well here. Beauty is in the eyes of whoever is beholding "it". I see so much beauty here in these underwater threads!!! Just incredible, breathtaking beauty everywhere I look! :-)
The folks on the artisans forum are wonderful about encouraging (just when you need it) and even more rewarding, they give very honest opinions of the art you show. They are full of suggestions and honest praise from folks that KNOW how much time goes into the work. You'd be a welcome addition to the artisans forum. Don't let the name scare you off! HAHAHAHAHA :-)
Janet
Cath, if you have read much of the blabber in these threads, and not just looked at the pictures (with is perfectly OK too!), you will know that the triggers hold a special place in my ankle, um I mean heart. Your Orange-lined Picasso (type of triggerfish, not a comment on your painting), looks wonderful! Be sure you get those top teeth in....they are the scary part. This is a Titan, but they all have the same teeth I think.
