I'll get a pic of a Moorish Idol here in a bit...wanted to show you this .... takes two pics, so bear with me .... This is a cool kind of coral - sorry, I don't know the name - but it is kind of a browish green when it is first seen.:

Touch it and it flows to white - bottom to top....cool huh?

This is a planet of many wondrous miracles...Thanks to Shari and John we are getting an opportunity to appreciate more of them.

Good night, Mrs. Calabash

WoW! those are great pictures, your tropical world is so facinating to me. Thankyou

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

It's so good to see this thread back in action. I've missed it.

I can't help but wonder how the undersea has fared with Dean's passover. Do you suppose those fish could hear him roaring??? Inquiring minds want to know!

By the way, I don't make meat loaf nearly often enough. I do love the leftover sandwiches. I also make a "ham loaf" with ground pork. The sauce used is mustard and brown sugar instead. I even through in a can of chunky pineapple the last time I made it and it was most excellent!

I started making preparations for the wedding, which is tomorrow. I made a crawfish size pot (we're talking WAYBIGO) of spaghetti sauce this morning. The house smelled heavenly all day long! I alway s enjoy spaghetti more the next day and that's why I made it ahead of time. Now, tomorrow, it will be leftovers! HAHAHAHA

Poor Hillary. (

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I sure hope he saw that....I don't think John likes meat loaf.....lol

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

John, no...wait...I wanted you to see these!

And here is that Moorish Idol....looks a bit like your grey's.....

Good luck, Janet. Know you will need rest by the weekend.....or before. From all of your fantastic posts on other forums would bet that the decorations are without equal.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I agree! Janet it will be a beautiful wedding!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

so sorry....did not mean to close John down with "meatloaf"....my bad

london England, United Kingdom

Sorry I asked what was in it!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Not to worry my pets....he will be back. He's just fussy cuz he can't throw himself under the water....my JB gets the same way.

Edited to remove stupid comment, and to apologize for posting it in the first place. Having surgery tomorrow to remove foot from mouth.

I apologize, Terri. I don't know how to understand vegetarianism. Please forgive......

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I thought at first those angels were toys because of the mouths. The coral changing colors when touched must be some sort of defense mechanism. Very strange!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I know what you mean about the toys Zany....John gets the greatest pictures, sometimes I'm just awestruck!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

What incredible photos Shari and John! Love that coral changing colors. Those angel fish didn't seem to happy about being interrupted John. Looked like they were frowning.

I have no doubt the wedding will go just fine. It's just family and a couple of friends. This is my "no frills" kid getting married. I've just been a bit frazzled getting all of the details finished. I just hope we have some cool breezes and no rain.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I will be special just being at your house. Best of wishes to the happy couple!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Shari. It will be special for sentimental reasons. Hubby and I got married in his folks backyard.

I can clearly remember driving across San Antonio in my little VW Bug with his mother to look at some bedding plants. We got married end of April. While there, his mother found 2 nice trees. Don't ask me now what kind of trees they were. We put one on each side of the car in the back floor boards and let them hang out the windows. I remember driving across town with those trees standing up. We must have looked crazy to the rest of the traffic. I know we laughed all the way back to her home. :-)

I remember the morning we got married, the jasmine opening up on this big tree in the backyard. His Dad took photos and used the jasmine wrapped tree as the frame.

Hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Goodness, the more we reveal about ourselves, the more we are alike. We married in the church and had the reception in my parents backyard. My prize was a 59 VW. June 9, 1961. Daughter married in the church....reception here at our home. Her 25th anniversary is Sept. 10th. Wedding is today, right? Good luck and congratulations to the bride and groom.

"""""""""""""''""" throwing bird seed """"""""""""""""

Me too! JB and I were married in his grandmother's back yard. Best thing I ever did in a life of some pretty great things!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much folks! For having only about a week's notice, I think it all went rather well.

She's my no frills gal so wasn't interested in flowery type flowers. This gave me a chance to show off my beautiful coleus! I've been maneuvering my potted coleus around so that they'd be the background for the ceremony. Here's a photo of the right side of the center island where the ceremony took place.

I'm dead dog tired and feel like I could sleep for a week now that it's over.

It looks beautiful Janet! And even her dress is tropical!! So special to have these memories from your home! Wonderful!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you Shari. It was a very special day for us all. We had a wonderful time getting to know his family.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Goodness, girl. It's too early to be up. Beautiful couple and now you need to rest today.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Christy. I thought it was early to be up too, but my bladder said otherwise. Once I get up, it's hard to go back to bed. Gotta make hubby's breakfast, etc.

I took advantage of being up and got my yard back to it's normal stage this morning. There were still chairs and plants moved where they didn't belong and I didn't want them to kill the grass there. It was much cooler this morning early than it is even now. It's so hot and humid these days.

Andrew came to me after the wedding and thanked me for all of the work I'd done. He really liked having all of the plants there. That made me smile bigtime. I think he's a keeper! :-)

Janet

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh what a nice thing to say....its nice to know your work is appreciated by those you do it for isn't it?

Here are a couple of yellow-tailed Dascyllus...wonder if they are married?

Nothing to compare with the underwater colors.....

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

oh good...a connection in a big storm....thunder and lightning outside...maybe the thryallis will come back....salt spray did a number on a number of plants here.... i chopped bouganvillas off with a machete tonight with my one good hand...my night blooming jasmine is wasted...jatropha..same way...the salt spray from dean has done more than first appearance..oh well, at least it's raining now and maybe they will get some new feet....anyway, this sailfin blenny is about 2 inches long and has a dorsel fin that runs all the way down it's back to it's tail...they swim out of their holes and flutter the sail, to attract mates, then straight back to the hole...i have laid on the bottom for over 30 minutes trying to capture the flight and this is as close as i've gotten...will keep trying as soon as i can get back in....

Sure is a pretty little critter John. 30 minutes is a long time to wait on a flutter John. HAHAHAHA It's good to see these beautiful images coming in.

Man, oh Man I'm sorry to hear about your plants. Better to lose the plants, than to lose you though. Plants can always be replaced. I wonder if pruning the damage would help. I hope they start looking better for you.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Those little blennys are fun huh? So tiny and quick! Whoosh, blink and they are gone! This is no where near as good as your pic, but it is one of the varieties we have out here...a yellowtail fangblenny... or Meiacanthus atrodorsalis for those who prefer the latin...

Thumbnail by Islandshari
Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

John, can you take some of the peices that were cut, or broken and plant as "cuttings"? They might take root, then you'd have some new plants!
Sorry that you had so much damage. It's really heartbreaking to see that happen.

Love the undersea pictures. They're great!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Do the Blenny's make a hole to hide in or doe they move in wherever they can find one? They must be very shy.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I know you are disappointed in your plants, John. The fact that you and Kate are safe is above and beyond anything else. I have been just worn out worrying about you. From North Texas I have discovered that I have a lot of tropical plants. I would dig them up and send them all to you. Having never even seen your face.....you are a part of my family....even DH, oh well, Mike asks about your welfare everyday. As my grandsons say,
It be alright.

We love you and yours,

LouC

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Good idea Christy! I've got lots of tropical plants too I'd be willing to share. Just say the word John and we'll box you up some goodies!

Janet

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Shari, are you trying to embarrass me with your latin. I'm impressed.

LouC

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

nope - not at all....JB lists the latin next to the pic or I would not have a clue! Our underwater gardens are as full of confusing and conflicting latin names as are the overwater ones! We walk around laughing about it What would you like to drink with dinner? Oh, I think i'll have an icedteaycallus with citronlimonica. Him with the fish, me with the plants....the kids just laugh and reply they think there is something wrong with our throats.

So John, what would you like from the Republic of the Marshall Islands - aside from a license plate that is.....name it and I'll find it.

I just got the marigold seeds and ground cover that Pepper sent...Christmas in August! Gotta spread the love.....

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I can always send more marigolds too. Have plenty of seeds.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Haven't forgotten my promise. Have a group of various seed drying out now. Just hope I can remember what is what....that should be fun....pots of surprise.
