What play? Did you enjoy it?? Details, please.....
Underwater Gardens #4
Shari, love those pretty yellow 3 band fish. They are so vibrant!
John, your Gold Spot Eel is really pretty (as far as eels go! HAHAHAHA)
I remember years ago, fishing on Captain Clark's fishing boat at Corpus Christi (I think it was Corpus, might have been Padrea Island, can't remember for sure). I was about 15 at the time. Mom caught a huge drum (32# if I remember right) and all I caught was an ugly old eel. I thought I'd caught a snake. All I really remember was the cute guy next to me that took him off the line! HAHAHA
Your eel is much prettier than mine was! :-)
Christi, I'd love to hear about the play also. Flounder sounds wonderful! mmmmmmmmmm
Janet
Go to: Contemporary Theatre of Dallas.com......now showing.....Social Security. Very good overview. One of the funniest they have done this year. Second year for us to have season tickets. Contemplating next year. The are probably 10 or more live plays plus numerous other live venues every night of the year. Thinking we will try out a few others.
Still look forward to "our" underwater thread everyday. The pictures of the sea are thrilling and I love all of you. I have a host of friends but we all know each other so well.....great to meet new people. Oh wow! Is this full moon? Will have to go outside to get a good look.
John, Shari I would be you have a full view. Be back in a minute.
LouC
Still got sunshine here....but tomorrow night, while you all are sleeping soundly, I will be watching a full moon eclipse...(fingers crossed, toes crossed, eyes crossed!)
I watched a full moon eclipse just 2 years ago. Friends live on a lake in East Texas......it was cloudy all day and no one expected to see the sky. At maybe 10 minutes before it started the clouds parted and we watched the entire thing sitting on a little boat dock. enchanting.
How magical Christi! Was this the island down by Corpus? I hope we get as lucky...the whole island has been buzzing about this for 2 weeks.
Thought I'd start my day with a bit of frivolity....we call these guys humbug dascyllus - they are everywhere - always in large schools - and fun to play with....:
What a fantastic thread! The pictures are incredible, never thought I would be able to combine gardening with diving....
You guys are great!
Cath, so glad you are enjoying it! We really enjoy sharing our underwater world. And John is just the most amazing photographer! Its really fun since we are half a world apart, but share a love of the ocean and all its wonders....join in anytime!
Those are really pretty Shari!
Hi Cath! Welcome to the underwater world here at Dave's. Shari and John have been sharing their amazing world with landlubbers like me.
Do you dive also? If so, show us the goods! HAHAHAHA We can never get enough of it! :-)
It's been coming down a gully washer here this evening. Multitudes of thunder and lightning and a whole bunch of rain! It's finally just drizzling now. Man did we need the rain!
John, how's the hand? I hope it's getting better. You're still on my prayer list!
Janet
Missed everybody today. My daughter has had surgery yet again. Everything is fine tonight and the doc said things were better than he anticipated. Really tired. I feel like you are all "home".
Tomorrow....
I'm saying a prayer for her quick recovery Christy. It's always good when the doctors are optimistic.
Saying another prayer for you as well. Rest well Sweetie!
Janet
Great that you're getting rain Janet! All recovered from the excitement? Haven't heard from John today...hope he's not having more computer problems! He gets the cast off this week, so he's probably going a little nutzo with the waiting. Hopefully he will be able to post something soon and join in to help pass the time.
Oh Christi! Hon, we are all thinking of you and your daughter. Get well soon's all around - and you take it easy. Lots of hugs and "good vibrations".... ♥
Good morning all...sorry I went missing last night...my wireless has crashed and the hard wire had to be hooked up to Katie's for work stuff....I spent the time loading up the ipod with some music for the trip tomorrow.
I fly out in the morning and see the doc after lunch...Hopefully that will all go smooth and I can get on with physio on the hand...I will be there a few days getting all the exercises down for when I return to Cayman over the weekend...
I have planned to go to Florida Colors Nursery and catch up with Luc and Carol. Importing cuttings will be impossible but bringing seeds home should not be...they have so many beautiful plumies there and hope to get a bunch...I will take one of the Nikons with me to document the trip and try to learn what I can...
I will have my laptop with me so I wont be out of touch with my loved ones....Katie, Spike, all my tropical gardeners(this means YOU!) Have never seen any dger's post from south florida on here....might be fun to catch up at Florida Colors!!
Anyway, hope this finds everyone well, and if not, on the road to feeling good again...see y'all tonight..
Don't be crabby!! Leave it to me!

Well, heck. Wrote a long note and forgot to hit send. Just as well. I have started the campaign and invite all to join me. John no longer needs to be hidden behind a wrench. His talent as an underwater photographer deserves recognition. I have sent an email to:
askings@nationalgeographic.com with recommendations that they access DG and look at John's work. Went to the home site and found where to send a request. I hope I haven't done something illegal or unethical. Maybe if they get a lot of requests the likelyhood that somebody will look will increase the chances. Shari, sure don't intend to put JB's work down. It always, always thrills my soul. When they check out John can't help but see JB as well. Ok altogether now.......positive vibes......positive prayers in faith that this has already been accomplished. Today is the day to get things done!
Wow Christie! That is one of the nicest things anybody has ever done for me. I am truly Blessed. Thank you for thinking so much of my work! I have been published a few times and would love to shoot full-time. As I have mentioned before, the competition is fierce and there as so many great photographers. A friend of mine has had numerous gigs with NG. His name is Courtney Platt. He has his own website and all, incredible images...has been shooting a long time....personally, i don't think my stuff compares with his but beauty is in the eyes of the beer holder, i mean, beholder...in any case, I am flattered that you think my stuff is worthy of a shot and I would certainly jump at the chance if it ever arises! Thank you so much.
john
Christi - Outstanding! Will go and do the same....not to worry - JB and I both know that there is absolutely no comparison with John's pictures, and that is not a problem for us in the LEAST! The dabbler recognizes genius when he sees it. With all your worries right now, it is a testament to your warm and wonderful heart that you did this for a friend. One more reason to love you bunches!
John, we will be with you in spirit when you get that cast off! JB just got home for lunch - I'll post more later!
Great idea! I'll ad an email to NG too. This is perfect since this forum is one of the few still open to non subscribers so they can view the pics and not just the first post in each thread like in most forums.
Should I start a new thread. Sure don't want this to get lost.
No worries on that score...these u/w threads never get lost for long! ☺
Oh no. The correct address is askngs.nationalgeographic.com. NO i....sometimes I am so stupid. Please correct the address. Let's get with it guys.
Great idea regarding National Geographic! I'm in!! Have sent my email. Even said I would subscribe if they included some of your pics John.......... :^)
Hey...last post from island side....trying to get done here and notice stress about this ng thing...please, i am an amateur photographer and surely not worth stressing over a wrong ip address!!!! I am not going anywhere and can be found easily...I appreciate the push but don't worry yourself over it!!! Christi, if you were my only fan, i would consider myself a successful photorgrapher! If what I shoot and post, makes a difference in your day, i can not be more successful. for all the joy and love katie and i feel on a daily basis here, it would never matter if anything ever came of this....i have been paid ten fold from the love and warmth paid by all of you.
see you in my jammie
j
Okay...I'm copying mine from the other address, and I'll send it to the right one....this is fun!
There's that gorgeous sponge color! I love that! You just hush now John....if we want to do this, we can, and you shouldn't worry about it. Christi gave us the push we all wanted to do anyway, cuz that's the wonderful way she is. No fretting - fun!
Dearest Lord, we pray that our lives be in your will. Amen
I have to say, I read all the dive mag's and John's pictures are spectacular!
He has my vote! Sheri, I would assume that some of the photo's are your husbands? They are excellent as well! Thank you so much for sharing them.
Such talented people, I can only imagine what your gardens look like!
Take care
Cath

Thank you for contacting the National Geographic Society.
Our editors continually review the published work of top journalists
and
invite those whose work impresses them to send a portfolio. At this
time,
however, we have far more interested freelancers than we do
assignments.
If this sounds negative, I apologize. It is, however, a response
dictated
by a rather precise goal for the style of the magazine, coupled with
the
limited number of stories we are able to publish each year.
Thank you for your interest in the National Geographic Society and its
work. I hope you will continue to enjoy the magazine.

I am a member of Dave's Garden. Something you probably haven't heard
off
but should take a look.
Davesgarden.com
Under the forum: Tropical Gardening
there is a young man named John Ferguson who signs in as carriblue.
His photographs are mesmerizing and holding the attention of thousands
of
people daily. He is located in West Cayman. Since this is a public
forum
personal information is kept to a minimum. I'm not pc savey enough to
attach files of his photographs. Don't know just how off the wall this
request is but how else could you go about finding talent that has not
been
tapped? Also, don't have any conception of how many e-mails you may
receive everyday....if it would not be an inconvenience I would
appreciate
a response as to what action may or may not be taken.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
Christi
The above is a direct copy of the original e-mail to National Geographic and their response.
We all know that many great authors and photographers have refused an audience in the beginning. With perseverence somewhere there is paying venue for John's work. Will continue to go in that direction.
Christi
John, hope you visit with the doctor is going in your favor.
Shari, I feel as though I can reach out and touch. We have so many trees and sooo much light that it is difficult to see anything from my home. Cannot imagine how glorious that must have been from your vantage point. Anything special that night?
Lots of "special" vibes...cats were going totally bonkers....♫something in the air♫ !! So busy watching her glorious color display and gazing at the stars, couldn't do more than say "thank you" over and over and over....so were so many people! The river of light was full of positive thoughts....more on that in d-mail. (((hugs)))
Great shot Shari, those magical moons sure make the night special....We have enjoyed a few ourselves....thanks for sharing it with us...didn't get to see any of it in our waters....Christie, thanks again for the thoughts and prayers and your diligence in pursuing NG. It was nice for them to reply to you so soon...I have sent samples to so many publications and some don't even bother to reply....i have a few ideas i am working on too, will send you some details about them upon my return to the island.
Got the cast off and pins out, that was sure pleasant! not. anyway, have a small bandage now as they didn't stitch me up after pin removal...just have to keep it elevated for a couple days...therapy starts Friday...cant wait as it is stiff...can't sleep tonight...wired up i guess....look for you guys when possible...
j
John, it is good to hear they removed the cast and didn't have to recast it. Did they mean you should elevate the keyboard to keep the hand elevated?
Therapy. UGH! But hopefully you will be over it and the stiffness gone real soon.. How long before you can don the air tanks and get back to the wild blue wonder under the sea?
Glad all is well with the thumb - it's been quite a few weeks for you, one way or another!
Sounds like you are on the road to recovery John. I am sure things will continue to heal and you will be right in no time.
Shari,
Thank you so much for the beautiful photo of the moon! It was supposed to be very visable from here but I missed it. Looked on the wrong day.
Ann! No! You poor dear! I hear ginko is good for brain function....Just kidding, but what a shame. I am going to post some more pics soon....just haven't had much time the last couple of days.
John, I have visions of you laying on a motel bed with your keyboard up on your knees to keep you hand elevated with you chat with us. Please be careful and don't drop it on your nose! We need you to be crisis free for a while! Question: Are you PADI certified, or which?
I've posted this before, but in honor of John's cast removal I thought I'd post it again....happy little anemone fish wandering through the big blue:
wunna ful, a wunna ful.
aha! yes - they are waltzing! Do you guys referr to slooww drivers as "Welkin' it" ? One of jb's favorite sayings. Hiya Christi!
