Aug. Bingo Call List

(Zone 1)

Looks like a pic of E. Cleopatra. But, I did see the photo of S. Daisy Jane at the link Cedar gave to Rob's! Beautiful Strep she is too!

..... I have two so far on my card! But, I'm not gonna ask Makshi to call the ones I have .... I'm gonna play fair and let you other's cheat if you must! LOL

Well ... it's back to finish yard work for me ... will check back later!

El Paso, TX(Zone 8a)

Great call Makshi! Or, hmmm.... should I try being sneaky and saying I didn't like that call at all? LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have been following a thread on Dave's forum where he has been asking people to start a continuation of a thread once it gets 100 replies.....................for the people who are on dial up..................this is as much a question as a request.....................

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

I used to have dial up and never had a problem until the thread reached 200. Unless there were a million pictures like the "who's who" threads

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

By the way, I would still have dial-up except the company went under and there were no other internet providers in the area. No cable, no DSL, nothing except satellite. Finally Sprint decided to offer us DSL and saved the day for all the locals. lol Sucks living in boonie-town sometimes.

Ok.................Dave said that..............and I don't know anything about computers............so leave it be as far as I am concerned...........thanks, cjolene................glad you have high speed now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Well, it's not really as fast as I hoped. It actually takes the same amount of time to see web pages. lol!!! My neighbor thinks so, too. Not sure why people make a huge stink over DSL....

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Well I think I have it straightened out now. Not sure what happened but guess I zigged when I was supposed to zag.

Oh, I would love to live in a little boonie town, CJ!! My dream is (when hubby retires) to move to a little town in North Carolina or Tennessee! I've always been a small town girl at heart! It is just a long shot dream though .... hubby wants to at first buy a large boat to travel the waterways for a few years! We took our boat out yesterday and were discussing his retiring. He is only 58 and has said that he will retire at 65 .... now he's talking about waiting til he's 70. He loves his job and I've always said he will probably still be teaching at 80. We spent yesterday out on the boat all day .... Beautiful Day .... Sunny and a wonderful Ocean Breeze!

I remember the 'good ole days', Lin, when i was in high school and college..............we always kept a fishing boat for the family...................the snapper banks were out 90 miles.........being a rebellious teenager my brother and I decided to go out but not tell our mother.............the winds started howling about 50 miles out..............I was terrified as the waves would have knocked the boat over had we tried to turn around..............my brother kept trying to assure me that we could go far enough that the waters would settle down..........sure enough and i don't even know how far out we got for the seas to calm and we turned around, came back safely and never did that again................and never told our mom either.........

(Zone 1)

Oh Gail .... I will not go out into the Ocean at all! We take our boat on the trailer over to the West Coast of Florida on vacation sometimes and I did go out into the Gulf once or twice but not very far! I don't mind the intracoastal waterways (where my photo was taken) but I do not want to be far from land! LOL. Many years ago my folks lived in Jacksonville and my dad let us borrow his car and a little (and I mean little) boat and we took off for the Florida Keys. It was before my youngest sister was married and she went with us. One day we were on the boat (real little boat!) and Pete began heading out into the open water .... I said no way, take me back, so they dropped me at the beach and I walked back to where we were staying. They were gone soooo long .... I really got worried! Eventually when they came back in they admitted they were way out with huge ships and probably shouldn't have gone that far off shore in such a small boat! My husband is taking our 24' boat out about 15 miles this weekend with some buddies to go scuba diving. I still say that's too far off shore for such a small boat, but this is the boat he took all the way to the Bahamas two years ago. We are going back to the Bahama's next May and he's hoping to find a larger boat to buy before then .... you know Boys and their toys?! He's looking at some 26-28' boats with two cabins, a galley with frig, microwave, stove, full head with shower, air conditioning etc. He still wants one that he can trailer and 28' is about the limit for that I think. I will still fly over and meet him over there .... no way am I crossing the ocean on a boat! :)

You were a brave soul back then Gail .... what size was the fishing boat? Hubby hasn't even been able to get me on a cruise ship! My parents lived aboard a boat for about 10 years at one time and loved it! I like going out cruising and sightseeing but I don't think I could live on a boat!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Our boat was meant for deep sea fishing............a 36 foot Bertram with a whatever on the top....................

(Zone 1)

Since it was a fishing boat you probably had a flybridge on top and outriggers - those thingy's that hold the fishing poles?

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Yikes!!! Okay, I've been TO the ocean, but never rode on IN the ocean. lol And certainly would've been too scared to take a smaller boat to the Bahamas!!!! But cool idea!! lol

Small town life is nice. Don't get me wrong there...I love living here. It's being excluded from cool things like libraries, grocery stores, and gas stations (not to mention when we couldn't get internet) that bug me. ; )

(Zone 1)

Oh my .... now that is the description of a very small town!! I am lazy and don't want to have to drive 10 miles to get to the grocery store or gas station etc.

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

lol Yeah...there's a Walmart and a gas station 30 minutes from us. And naturally...the only place we drive to is into town so we can just get it when we go in. But it'd be nice to have one nearby, too. Especially if we get flooded in again. LOL!!

(Zone 1)

So true CJ .... we have 3 Wal-Mart Supercenter's within 10 miles and they are building 2 more! There are also 2 Super Target's within 6 or 7 miles also! And, numerous Grocery Stores, and Gas Stations! We only have one Mall in town though! ... and, it's not real big. Most folks drive to Orlando to shop because they have Fabulous malls over there!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

You'll have FIVE Wal-Mart's?!?! Wow!!!

lol...closest Target (not a Supercenter...lol) and the closest mall are both an hour away in the greater Kansas City area. ; )

(Zone 1)

We also have 2 K-Mart's within a couple of miles!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

I'm starting to wonder if you don't live in a heavily populated area? lol

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

We don't even have a good Target in Corpus christi................45 minutes............it is a crummy one...............I love Target in New Braunfels.............they have more fine stores and there ae only 36,000 people living there.
Corpus Christi has 400,000 and no good shopping............getting better but not by much............

(Zone 1)

Yeah, Daytona isn't a small city but not as big as other's either. I think population is @ 65,000. Here's a link to some pic's around the city: http://www.city-data.com/city/Daytona-Beach-Florida.html

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Wow!!! You're RIGHT THERE on the beach!!! Guess that's why "Beach" is in the city name, eh? *slapping forehead* lol VERY zone. Complete zone envy!! ; )

Here's a tour of Lane I created a few months ago:
http://picasaweb.google.com/NuttySeedling/CityOfLane20070629?authkey=BByuhOcgkJ4

Population 250. ; )

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Oops...meant to say VERY *jealous*, not VERY zone. lol You can see how pre-occupied I was with zone envy, can't you? lol!! ; D

(Zone 1)

Oh CJ ..... I love that tour! I would dearly love to live in a small town like Lane! Yep .... we have houses like that here in Daytona too .... some really, really nice and then some that should be condemned! There's a little house across the street from me .... wish I had a before photo, before her son decided to do a bit of painting and sprucing up! The lady who lives there is in her 90's and has been there since the 1940's .... her son built a house next door to her many years ago and his mom's house was literally falling down. It looks real cute now since he put siding on and has spruced up her yard.

Here's a pic of one of the houses we get to see from the waterway when we are cruising in our boat! There are a couple with for sale signs and I told hubby maybe we should buy one! Yeah, like we could afford over a million bucks for waterfront property!

Ya know .... I've heard of people "switching" homes for vacation .... I sure think that would be fun some time but haven't convinced hubby! Here's another house on the water that we passed yesterday:

Thumbnail by plantladylin
Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

lol If someone in one of those homes would like to swap for a vacation, that'd be FINE with me!!!!! lol

(Zone 1)

Some of y'all know of Hawaiian Tropic Sun Tan Lotions .... this is one of the boats belonging to the man who just sold HT:

Last one .... Everyone is probably getting pretty perturbed with me taking up so much space with these posts. Some of these homes are sooo huge and have huge boats too!

Gorgeous!!!

We used to have just a regular speedboat for going out on the lake. I became the kneeboard champion in my family. lol Never could ski, though. Couldn't imagine having a boat you could sleep in. lol That'd be something different for sure. Don't people get seasick?

(Zone 1)

CJ ... some people do get sea sick and wouldn't think of stepping on a boat! My husband used to water ski many years ago and he still has knee boards - used to take some of his students out skiing and knee boarding. I only go into the water up to my knees! No knee boarding or skiing for me! I remember this huge tube we had once, it had a bottom in it and we would tie it off to one of the cleats on the side of the boat and I would just float around and read my book while we were anchored somewhere. This tube was one of those meant to pull someone in behind the boat. I tried it one time! Scared the living daylights out of me .... I was screaming for them to stop .... they thought I was screaming cause I was having so much fun! LOL. I thought I was going to fly right out of that thing! Every time it hit a wave I bounced .... was holding on for dear life but really thought I was going to fly out! I'll stick with swimming pools. I have lived on the coast all my life and grew up around the water with our parents taking us to the beach a lot on weekends but since almost drowning when we first moved to Florida in 1967 .... I've had a fear of water over my head! We even have a pool (haven't used it in years) and I would never go in the pool if there were a lot of people in and a lot of activity! A phobia I've never gotten over! Hubby is a certified scuba diver and really wanted me to get certified to dive but I panic too easily and cannot imagine being in 50-80' of water! I can't even imagine being underwater in 10' of water!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Yikes! How did you get out back when you were a kid?

Imagine someone with a fear of water over their heads hooking up with a scuba diver...lol Love it!! ; D

About the inner tube dealio- they should've let you know beforehand to let go of the rope if something went wrong. I'm sure it didn't cross their mind. Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

I just noticed you posted way early this morning. Our a/c quit on us (nice timing...lol) and every heating and cooling store's been booked. Couldn't even find a window unit above 8,000 BTU's. And we even drove all the way up to the Kansas City area going to every store we could think of. lol We spent ALL DAY trying to find something to get us by and finally met a lady- complete stranger...lol- who sold me her used one. Said she bought it new and only used it for one week. Cool!!! Literally!! ; D

(Zone 1)

CJ ... your question: "How did you get out back when you were a kid?" The incidence where I almost drowned ... I was 19 years old! I guess I didn't explain, hee hee. I did grow up on the coast and we spent a lot of time at the beach as kids, but I had never been in deep water. I can swim, I've just never been a strong swimmer. When we moved to Florida I went to the pool and my brothers kept daring me to jump off the diving board. When I did, and ended up over my head in the deep end, I panicked and began screaming and fighting the water. Brothers thought I was playing around! When one of my brothers finally realized I wasn't kidding, he came and grabbed my arm and lifted me up and got me to the side of the pool.It was a very scary experience .... I've had a fear of deep water ever since and at the beach will only go in the water up to my knees! Some people laugh because we have a swimming pool here at home and a boat. Our pool hasn't been used in years .... my nieces and nephews are all grown and don't live nearby and my Mom used to love the pool when she was alive too. We just don't find the time to go for a swim anymore! Whenever I'm on a boat, ours or someone else's, I always have to know where the life jackets are! And, also know that the seat cushions float!

My husband didn't become a certified Scuba Diver until many years after we were married! We just celebrated our 38th anniversary last week!

.... Oh, and the large Innertube was secured by dock line to the boat at one end and to the tube at the other end ... there was no rope for me to let go of. LOL. I was just sitting inside the tube with it being pulled by the boat.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Lynn, what day was your Anniversary? Mine was the 6th of August, 36 years! Doesn't time go by too quickly! I just can't believe how fast our lives zoom before us! I would love to live close to the water, I love the beach and the ocean, it is just so calming for me.

Do you still keep the pool maintained? That is the one reason I don't have a pool in my yard. I keep thinking I want one, and then I think of all the maintence and care, and just continue to use the neighborhood pool that we pay to help keep up for our SD. It is seldom crowed and actually many times my children and grandchildren are the only ones there for hours when we go...so it is almost as good as having my own in some ways...and better in other ways, in that we don't have to keep it up..lol

(Zone 1)

Ours is the 9th of August (1969) - 38 years for us! Yeah, time sure does Zoom by!!

About pools .... ours is screened in and all we have to do is add liquid chlorine every so often ... but, the pump runs continuously so that of course adds to the electric bill each month! We've talked many times about just draining it and filling it in - would give me more garden area. LOL. But, our cats are indoor pets and that screened enclosure is the only outside they know and they love it! We are going to have to invest $$$ at some time in the not too distant future (have been talking about it for quite some time) to have the pool drained and re-marcited. The bottom has become quite rough in some areas from the chlorine eating away at the cement over the years. We also have some tile around the edge that has cracked - so one of these days we are going to spend some money and have the entire deck and pool resurfaced! The cement pool deck is cracked (badly in some areas) I think from tree roots. Eventually we will have it all taken care of. We seem to always find "other" things to spend the money on. :)

If we lived in a Subdivision with a community pool we wouldn't even consider having one in our backyard, especially since we don't use our pool! I think Homeowners Association dues would be a lot better and probably cheaper in the long run than having one in the backyard, but I don't really know that for certain .... I just know the electric bill would be a lot less!!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Yes, that is what I thought as well. I keep telling myself, it is less than 1/4 mile down the street, and it is "almost" private..lol PLUS, my DH doesn't swim at all, or like the beach. So it would never be something we could enjoy together...just something the children and grandchildren would enjoy, and as you know before too long, they don't have the time to make it worthwhile either..lol

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Here comes Granny Gail with a tip.......................my own child who is a pediatrician says that pools don't belong in people's back yard until the children are old enough (teenage years) to be safe. She sees the saddest things everyday all because someone thought it was a good idea to put in a pool for the children.

Even though her child can swim (and babies in the family) isn't allowed to be around any water unless his mom or dad is there............no exceptions........

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

That is exactly how I have felt for years! When mine were young my Father in Law was considering putting one in his yard...we were the only ones with Children at that time...I said to him, so whatever you want, but you will be visiting my home to see these babies, they will not be coming here...for exactly that reason! There is no way to protect them completely, no matter how good a parent or grandparent you are.

As we have gotten older I have often thought it would nice to have one that I could go out the door and step into...but alas, the above keeps flooding my memory, and can't let go of that thought..lol
