In Florida there are VERY strict laws regarding residential pools, because of so many drownings. All new construction, I can't remember what year it went into effect, but homes with pools have to have some sort of alarm on every door of the home, so that you know that someone has opened a door. Wonderful for folks with young children and the elderly. My sister's kids are grown so they just turned the alarm off at their house - they are constantly letting the dogs in and out and got tired of hearing it. We had our pool put in in 1977 and have a fenced yard as well as a screened pool enclosure but no pool alarms. It is mandantory to have a fence around the pool.
With young children, parents, grandparents and caregivers must be very diligent with kids around water!!

Being an idiot and young, I, as a single parent, put in a pool when they were 4, 5 and 6.............even with no rules, I had an alarm on every window and door.................plus I had those high slide locks on the doors leading to the back yard.................think I was just a lucky mom that no one ever got hurt......................
No Gail, not lucky .... Smart Mom! You can never be too careful when it comes to the safety of children! I've said many times maybe it's good that Pete and I weren't blessed with kids because they would have probably all grown up with some complex or other cause I am so over protective!
My daughters are sooooooooooooo protective with their children................i wasn't as protective as they are, but it is a new big world out there right now...............so I don't blame them one bit..............
You have to be a lot more careful than I had to because of all the mean and nasty people now. I remember I could let my daughters 10 and 11 walk to the corner grocery back in 70 but I wouldn't ever let them out of the yard now without a big dog, cell phone, whistle and a can of mace.
isn't that the truth, makshi.......................when I was growing up out in the country, our rules were: " be home before dark".....................our parents didn't even know where we were playing................
Yep, that is sooo true! My parents had no idea where we were, just didn't go out of the neighborhood...lol and that was quite a big area!
My brother was 14 and had his driver's license............so he did nothing but read all the time anyway, so i talked him into lying down in the back seat of his old car and I would teach myself how to drive.....................and I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't get on the highway..........just old country roads but my Mom never knew what we were doing................we got home by dark (LOL)
