On the woodline last fall.
Fall Color!!
Nice shots Celeste. Mushroom time too.
That's interesting Jan. I noticed a blush on my Golden Dawn Redwood. Already had started on my Hydrangea 'Pink Diamond'.
Louise:
Thanks for the giggle!
Victor:
Thanks for the pass.
Pixie:
Thanks for that awesome color!!!
Grampapa:
Oh my goodness!! I LOVE that photo!!
Gram thats awesome!! I'd love to hear all those guys yakking. LOL
I bet they couldn't be missed Jan - a bunch of noisy and messy neighbors
Victor, I have an excuse too. I'm working on my new computer since April. Last year's photos are on the old computer. The old computer is acting strange. I'm waiting for the tech guy to come and fix it so I can get all my data off of it. Good enough? I love your pictures though!!
Harper
Ummmmmmm, Victor.....I have a confession to make.........I spoke too soon.....my blueberry leaves have touches of red on them..........
Grampapa - What a neat shot of the flock!! And your house is lovely!
Candyce - how's the weather where you are?? Feels like fall here today!
Felt like Fall here today. Absolutely gorgeous day - one of the ten best of the year! My solar is chugging like crazy.
I know I'm late, but t was a baly 42 degrees out this morning! Yesterday would have been fine, if not for the overcast most of the day and the chilly wind! We almost fired up the wood furnace! Ugh ~ too early for THAT!!
Candyce - I'm afraid we succumbed and turned our heat on this morning! It was around 42 here too. When we took our walk, it was quite brisk along the pond! I'd rather have cool than hot anyday, but I think my tomatoes may have even more trouble ripening. The only ones I've had get ripe are the yellow Azoychkas.
Tomatoes need warm nights to ripen. You can always do a test and pick a few tomatoes, bring them inside and put them in a dark corner of the kitchen or in a bag (or both) and check them daily.
Pirl - Thanks for that suggestion. I'm never clear when it is too early to bring in the green guys. I have a couple of nice fat ones that I've been waiting patiently for. I will pluck a smaller one from the same vine and try your suggestion. There haven't been many warm nights here lately!!
Remembering to check ever day is the important part of it.
Now if I could only warm up my toes the same way!
Pirl - I did it! I plucked two prime candidates, put them in a brown paper bag and set them up on a bookshelf in a relatively dark room. I'll peak at them daily.
Candyce - Brrrrrrrrrr, huh? Right now it has reached 70 here, and it is lovely and sunny. BUT - there's still tonight........I do love the cool nights though - at least I did like them until Pirl clued me in to the basis for my unripe tomato problem. I guess I could start some bonfires out in my garden tonight. I recall in Florida when I was a child seeing the smudge pots burning on cold nights to keep the citrus from getting nipped. I think I saw a smudge pot or two lying around out in our "magic shed"......magic because you never know what you'll find out there.....:)
I want a magic shed! Will I find a millon bucks and a dream-boat guy?... Pick door number one! Pick door number one!!
I don't mind the cool nights either. I just can't stand the snowy winters anymore. If I don't have to go anywhere, then it's fine, but having to drive in it with the other idots definitely has me wanting to head south.
Anita: driving with idiots, be it due to snow, drugs or alcohol, is never fun.
Harper: I want a magic shed, too! I want to walk through it and have all my weeds disappear by the time I exit.
Ahhh .... magic sheds! I just want a shed. Anyone want to come build one for me? Just kidding.
As for the temps ... well, right now it's a balmy 51 degrees. This is still August, right? I have heard the weatherman say that we will be back to more normal temps by the end of the week, though. I don't know if I like that idea. I think I am a 72-degree-gardener. I must be getting old!
LOL!
Sounds great to me, Candyce. I'd love 72 from April through January.
Pirl, You carpool with idiots?
I can't believe folks had their heat on in August! I hope I don't freeze in Maine.
Hate to say this dave......but you might want to bring some warm sweatshirts ect.... it was 45 here at 7:30 AM
Have a great Winter vacation Dave!
Started a fire in the fireplace this morning to take the chill out of the house. It's warming up now and it's very sunny...should reach 70-75 today. We have only had about 1 week of warm weather here all summer. Might have got up past 90 maybe 3-5 times otherwise it has been a fairly cool summer here. Come to think of it....I didn't even go swimming this year!
Dave - I was so mortified that I had turned on our heat that I turned it back off in about 20 mintues....bundle up in Maine! I'm sitting here chilled right now because I decided to convince myself it's all in my head. I have a short-sleeve t-shirt on - like a jerk - and I'm thinking of reaching for the heat dial again. Whew...stopped myself and will put my sweatshirt back on.
Harper, Pirl and Candyce - As to magic sheds....my DH pulls out the most amazing things from it. It will be a problem when one of us dies.......not much that's in tact, but lots of pieces of old things, like a baby ox shoe.....you never know what or who you might find in it, Harper!! And weeds don't go anywhere when I emerge, Pirl....but I did do a brutal attack on the gallant soldiers with straight vinegar this morning. Interesting, it didn't seem to do a thing to the wild violets that have taken over the small landscape stones in front of our BBQ pit. I squirted them too, but they are as green as you please. I love violets, but these have just taken over and I'm tired of the chiro. bills.
Candyce - I'll join your 72 degree gardener club!! That's just perfect for me!!
Count me in on that club!
A baby ox shoe? That IS a magic shed!
We will be warm from the inside.
Wow, Louise! I just LOVE your shed!!
And, it's good to know that the vinegar didn't hurt the flowers. How are the flowers doing today?
Some prefer Balsamic.
Probably the Balsams.
Candyce - I just went out and checked the violets.......they are looking a bit "variegated" today. I was going to show my appreciation to Victor for his balsamic crack by actually trying a little on one of the plants. Whew....got to keep it for my supper when I saw the variegation happening. I think they'll be history tomorrow. I wish I didn't feel sad about that. It is so emotionally difficult to kill a flowering plant!
I agree! Well, that is, unless the flowering plant is a dandelion!! I have no problem shouting 'off with their heads' when it comes to dandelions!!!!
Sorry about the violets.
To be redundant, I love your photos, Pixie.
