I am enjoying your posts.......loving the pictures and laughing and crying right along with you.
worried about you Betty......please see a doctor, please....
all is well with me, and I am feeling better, so please don't worry.
where is Tangie, I am missing her posts, too.
Take care, have a good evening
Hugs to all of you,

Liz that sucks and I so know that stupid drama, it is too familiar. Ya know isn`t it always about the will? Somewhere in the story it is there as if anyone is entitled to someone`s money anyway. I`m spending my kids inheritance on my life and what ever is left they can divide up and it aint much. I think it is more important what we are to eachother in life.

Fights with eachother in marriage are part of most people`s lives, but it really should not be. Most people do not start that way in order to win the heart of another, So why does that familiarity breed contention?

Morning All,

Betty, you need to take care of yourself. Sounds like you need an adjustment from a chiropractor. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as just ONE adjustment - it's numerous one but I totally believe in them as I have used them quite a few times in the past 15 yrs. I went thru both pregnancies going to them and had no back labor. Of course, I had to go every other day cause my "sweet in-utero" daughter liked to push my rib out of joint so I had to go and get it "snapped" back into place. My DS on the other hand was 22 in long and laying diagionally in my belly so he popped the ribs a few times too. Funny story of this pregnancy. When I was probably 8 and a half months along, I was miserable - my belly was so tight you could bounce a penny off of it! It hurt to "look" at my skin! Well, DS as I said was 22 ins long and his feet were up under my right rib cage and he loved to kick. I had no fat on me during this time - I only gained 12 lbs with him - so nothing to soften the blows. Anyway, I had a dream one night towards the end that my belly got so tight that a hole popped open on the side and his foot stuck out. Well, I remember dreaming that this is just not good and I'm not putting up with this cr*p so I pulled his feet and his whole body out. Sounds gross but if you've been preggers and felt like you were just going to explode, you'll understand. Unfortunately, I woke up and he was still in me!!

Wonder - I'm glad you're feeling on the mend. Take care of yourself!

Beth, I know I owe you a SASE for some seeds. I'll get on it today! ;(

Well, it's my next to last day here in my dept. I've packed my stuff up and I'm going to haul it to my car this afternoon. I have an interview with a "career counselor" on Monday as well as with a mgr for a position that is open. I think I am going to have a pampering day next week and use a half day spa certificate my old boss gave me to the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon. It's for a signature full body massage, signature facial, pedicure and "spa lunch" (which is proabably a carrot & lettuce leaf!). I love (and miss) my old boss! The certificate also includes the tip so I can go and not worry about spending a dime!! On top of the certificate, he also bought me one of the EA robes they have in the spa. I'm talking NICE! My chenille robe is long gone! In my 8 yrs here, he was the best boss! Anyway, I'm just kind of chillin' out here at work and closing up loose ends before leaving tomorrow.

Best: At puppy class last night, Murphy gave me his paw when I asked for it! I taught him something!!!!

Worst: No rain for almost 2 week now. Voluntary water cut back may start next week.

I'll check back later. Have a great day!!!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty..those baby clothes are adorable..Lucky little girl who gets to wear them.
The bike trail will be a joy to ride I am sure. I bought a bike last spring..sort of gotten away from riding during the summer..but will start again soon.

Sneaking on to wave hello....surprise two day seminar (boring)

Be home tonight. Miss you all!

Shar, hey little darlin'....smothering you with hugs and kisses......be well....Jan

Victoria Harbour, ON

tangie..we sure all miss you!

Glenview, IL

Good morning!
Betty, June's Baby clothes are just too Precious! The very thought of remaking vintage items for baby is so clever. Wondering is she ever makes quilts or blankets too. Big smiles - Thank you for sharing
Junes neighbors cottage is Lovely. Also isn't that sweet her blooms off the front-or back porch. Very pretty.
So glad to hear you called the Doc-Keep on them to get you in.

Shar-Good to see you, glad you are taking on a good rest.

Tangie, Oh sorry about the seminar! Geeze how you find some of it useful-LOL, will miss you.

Gardengirl, Wow, i bet this day seemed so far away until now. Wishing you luck with the interview and hopefully they help you find a great fit. We closed my Group in April, and I got to admit it was incredibly bittersweet to say goodbye to my team. We celebrated the 15 years we worked together. Now, well i am alone but One of my guys went on to another department and uses alot of what he learned in my group, With you tenor at your position, I am sure you will use many of the skills in whatever comes your way.
How very sweet of your Boss to give you a certificate to the spa! Oh just simply enjoy!

Tropi & Liz...Yep OZZFEST! Actually they got tickets for free! Some friend of dd got too many or something...They were at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. I guess my DH, didn't care about any of the bands He was there simply for Ozzie. He said it was fantastic- You know Ozzie getting old but man he still got the voice. Can't remember all the details but he talked about the guitar solo by Zack King? Said it was like a Hendrix solo, the guy even used his teeth! Now I wouldn't have minded seeing that. The place was jammed LOL of course-and I guess security was not playing around either. They would not let them Mosh? Which i was glad to here. I guess they tried and some were heading right for my kids but DH stood in front of them and someother kids like a crossing guard and Saved them from being dozed over. Well anyway the really COOL part I liked was Lighters for the encore. He said it was just like the old Real concerts. Even the kids had Lighters...opposed to Cell lights. Thousands lit up!! The girls got some pretty nice t'shirts for 35-I guess thats pretty standard. Well any kind of funny- The hard core Kid fans-Had no clue on the older greats, but the adults sang right on with EVERY song including the last CD. So they had a great time!

Well, did I say I like to be busy?? Yesterday this office kicked my behind! Got everything done but boy was I tired...So took the night off and chatted with DH in kitchen had dinner and went to bed! feel rested today.

Well-going for coffee and get on the next project.
See you in a bit.
Judy

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Hey, Jan.....

OZZFEST? I went to a black sabbath concert when I was 14, LOL.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have you all beat...went to see the '3 stooges' at Exhibition grounds..lol....so I wasn't with it like you all were...no favorite bands...

Glenview, IL

LOL-Betty, I used to love the "three stooges" they are just too silly!

Beth-Ozzfest is an all day concert! I think there was like 20 or 30 bands playing throughout the day-none of any I heard of but then Im stuck in 60-70's. LOL One band got bood out of there. He is in WI and Screaming Hello Michigan- The crowd wasn't too nice about it either....Then the Main Band which was Ozzie for the Grand Finale. We have others similar called Lalapalooza.
I saw Black Sabath too-Back when I was cool! One of the first concerts I ever saw..That did it I was hooked.
The last concert I went to I think was Creed.

Judy

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

The last few concerts I've been to were Tool, Ben Harper, and Everclear.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You can tell how old I am, or that I've been in a closet all my life...never heard of either of the 3 bands Beth...

I'm no spring chicken myself! Don't feel bad.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

howdie all,

off for the weekend today with my DD so i wont be on for a couple of days.
Betty you are so talented! I have met many talented people in my day but you are without doubt the most talented i have had to the pleasure to meet. thise dresses are amazing! what a great idea! gosh one day, i'd love to meet you...

Im so glad to have this thread, i try and interact on others but they dont seem interested in including me...i guess they have their own 'thing' going. I tried the chat room a couple of times but aside from one or two saying hello they didnt want to have a conversation with me. funny how we form little groups isnt it? very oack oriented... im no different myself i guess.

best? going away for a break.
worst? my manager is still trying to give me a hard time. i went into work yesterday and whilst all were concerned about my fall she stood there looking me up and down. i thought mistakenly she was concerned for me and i said, dont stress it i am fine. she just stared at me! I couldnt figure it out. it suddenly dawned on me that she was looking at my shoes and i wondered why. i had worn these joggers (white) for the whole 13 months i had been there as they stop my feet hurting. ( i have difficult feet lol) so i went to my boss and asked if there was a problem with my shoes and said probably for sonja ( who is the big boss) and i said i had worn them for 13 months. he said he would chat to her. i explained to him they cost me $175 and i couldnt buy anymore. he later emailed me and said i could wear them as long as i stayed behind the counter! get it? cant wear them to do the licence testing....sigh... so she thinks she has me again and is stopping me from doing it. i will try and save and see what i can find. she is such a cow and because they are not uniform i cant say anything, she has never complained until now as it suits her... grrrrr

anyway, thanks for letting me vent... you are all the best...
have a good weekend and i will check in when i get back.

Oh Laura...stay strong..don't let her get the best of you...she's knit picking for sure...but if you just go along with it, smile, be pleasant, you'll win in the long run..will be praying for you to have a wonderful few days..you certainly need it...

Now it just came to me..when you say testing..do you mean as a 'driver's license'? or testing the vehicle itself?

Thank you for compliments, but June (friend) made these little outfits..I've no girls to spoil...

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Phew. Just got home after a two day surprise (I had less than two hours to run home, throw some clothes in a suitcase, drive to Philly and catch the train) out of town trip for a work seminar that we could have done online. Two all expenses paid days in NYC, any other time of the year would be a good thing, but I now have two less days to enjoy my summer and I'll never get them back. Plus, I really missed you guys. Oh well....I'm just tired and out of sorts.

Off til Monday, so I'll be able to play catch up with you, probably in the morning as hubs is on his way home and I'm sure he'll want some of my time this evening. Watch out though....It's just me and the pups here tomorrow and Saturday, so polish up your reading glasses and put on the coffee, lest I put you to sleep.

Just wanted to post these, quick like a bunny, for Judy, especially....as I was taking them, I thought of you, my dear. There are, I believe, four pics to this series.....I swear, I didn't teach him this, but he's done it for years.

I call this "Weed Hunt" (For all you Boomers out there....I'm talking garden weed(s)....not the other kind ;o)

Wonderful, Tangie....missed you!

Betty....did you check with the doctor??????

Laura, hang on, girl....you will win this battle.

More later, so hot here I decided to do laundry tonight, so....off to finish.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all..well, almost morning..SIL came over after work to work on a stained glass rose lamp..just left...thank goodness I get to work from home tomorrow...
I'd tell you all it will be a quiet weekend but you'd know I would be lying..lol...

Well, have all kinds of things to send off tomorrow..Shar, anxious to see you start your quilted sweater...I'll be here ready to help should you need it, but am sure you won't..easy project...the photo's that I'll post is the sweater I did for Suzanne last fall..she brought it over tonight so I could take a photo for you!

Sending off my Blue Heron pattern...someone's going to be making a few..

Best thing...just an all and all good day..finished a few items that I had promised I'd do and send off..not fond of things hanging over my head!!! A promise is a promise - right?

Worse thing...had promised to send someone Brach/Bach 'Rescue Remedy'..instead of sending it via mail I decided to have a mail order company do it for me...I put it on a credit card so it would get to her quicker..got my credit card bill today and it wasn't on it..so I'm assuming she didn't get it and I feel terrible..wanted her to have it asap sooo will send a bottle from here tomorrow with a letter of apology..

What did I learn..can stay up till midnight but will probably feel it tomorrow.....lol

I sat on back deck with chandelier candles all lit relaxing for a bit....for those of you who asked if I could relax...the answer is YES...did enjoy 1/2 hr. while Suzanne's husband was coming over to pick her up...Suzanne said it's funny that there is still a bit of grass that I haven't made into flower beds..she challenged me to see if I could possibly find room for another garden...the witch...lol

No doctor's appt. for 2 weeks Shar...girlfriend Anne brough over salve, seemed to ease some of the pain..forget what she called it, but although it is still painful to touch, it's not quite as bad...as I said before, it could have been the 2 days I spend shopping and walking on cement flooring and sidewalks..hard surfaces..but the good news..I'll live...

Shar...front of sweater...

BETTY!!!!!! LOVELY....now I can't wait. Did you buy the quilted fabric, or is it really hand quilted? You know, that idea would work in a lot of different ways......like maybe with fleece??
What a great idea....now if I only knew how to knit!!!!

I hope you get lots of rest, and that the aches and pains ease this weekend.

also, whatever is behind the sweater...fireplace??....that is wonderful, too. ahhhhhhh, think I might have to take a northern trip, stop and see Jo on the way....sidetrack to check on Tangie's flowers and lovely home......just looking for cooler temps, of course1

will talk more tomorrow, am ready now to call it a day, and it has been a good one, if you can call these hot temps good.
nite all..

betty, lol three stooges im still laughing we went to see them when we were kids they sang some songs,,joked around and were just fun to see i really enjoyed them that quilted sweater was incredible wow it looks like a lot of work was it hard to make? just beautiful im glad you got a appt for the doctor.

everyone have a great day
best:dh cooked tonight
worst:neighbor across street moving oh no new neighbors hope their nice whoever we get
learned:dg changed things around going to take some time to figure where things are now lol

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

What nice work, Sharran!

Seedtosser, Lolapalooza was my first concert...more of a story than I can go into...but I'm not that shocked that they regulate moshing anymore. Apparently all forms of fun will be limited....lol....no, never cared for it either, I'm too small and not aggressive. Sounds like your people had a blast though.

EVERYONE ELSE, I just want to take a moment and thank everyone for being open-minded (truly, not in the"gee, our minds are so open cause we think exactly alike") with each other. I always find it refreshing as this is one of the more diverse threads I post to. Y'all are cool ;)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Here's to 'cool' as I life my cup...that's what we on this thread are for sure...

Well I've done 4 loads of rocks to put finishing touches to the pond before the backhoe leaves, washed white bedspread and have it on the line just in case someone calls...wouldn't fresh smell of blankets be nice and now am sitting with my favorite friends (lol) and having coffee...waiting for telephone to ring...

Shar..the package you are getting shows you step by step..no actual quilting..it's all strip sewing...easy as 1-2-3 (honest)..gave you the list you needed on d-mail I think so off you go shopping...I would choose a solid for inside the jacket...also, if you have a sewing machine that does any decorative patterns, I sew a design on each solid strip putting different thread color in bobbin so that when you open up your jacket you will see the design...if I started this morning, by afternoon I'd have a jacket (not counting the knitting part of course..you must pre-knit the sleeves, sweater band and neck band)..and don't say 'you could Betty' because it's a process and it take the same time...

Now I don't want to monopolize the threat with a quilting craft..so what I could do Shar is do each step..photo and put on another thread so that anyone wishing to do the project could very simply...

Now as for the fireplace...don't laugh..that was an afternoon's project and about $50.00

I started out by purchasing wallpaper (white) that had a tile like appearance and put it on the wall..cutting out the insert where I want it to look like the firebox...then I painted the wallpaper and cut out area with black..with a roller and some redbronze and gold bronze I applied each at different times rolled on paint very very lightly so it would just grab the wallpaper until I liked to color..did not do the inside firebox though..then I put trim around the box to give it depth..then I purchased a sheet of MDF board..about $20.00 a sheet...had my measurement with me and Home Depot cut the two side boards, the upper shelf board, the shelf and I was ready to go..did a design cut on the top section..then glued 2 pine boards together and with scrollsaw you the doves which hold up the shelf..also cut out a scrolled piece for center display..painted all the boards white and screwed them to the wall, then I thought it look flat so on the 2 side pieces I bought 'dap'..taped off 1 1/2 on each side of the board and with trowel, I textured the area...made all the difference..now I painted this texture white as well... all I wanted was a shelf to put up my photo's but ended up with a nice focal point in my bedroom...recently I purchased a black rod iron firescreen with about 12 candle holders in it...really finishes it off...

Should someone want to take on this project I'd gladly help you through it...if we can't get together for craft days and/or chat days then why not on DG thread...

Big bang for no 'bucks' that's me...

OMG, OMG!!! Had to look several times.
Betty, Are telling us that is NOT a Firelplace? I am telling you even Santa must think it is!

You are so incredibly talanted, I can't even get over this. Going back to read the directions on how to achieve this look...You should have one of those shows on Crafting!

Also, I can certainly see Shars excitement on the Quilted sweater. Wow!

Tangi, Oh gosh Thanks for sharing your Your Weed Hunters...I love them, want to loan them to me? Splendid, gardens you have. What are the mighty hunters names?...got to giggle over the difference in their size. They are gorgeous.
Glad your able to relax this weekend and enjoy your gardens. It must be wonderful to sit out with a cup of coffee in the day and ponder at the beauty...Yep already got lost in your garden. Lovely sunflowers-I really love to watch flowers open and close...never realized that my Dianthus close in the evening and how pretty that sight is.

Laura, You just have a great visit and relax this weekend. Glad your feeling a little better.

Raising my Cup to All you Cool People too! (yep includes me too)
...everyday, coming here to all of you makes me feel great!

Well BBL got to get to work.
Have a great day.

Jan,

In your first picture of "The Hunt"--what are the tall, purple flowers closer to your house--just behind the Rudbeckias? Are there two different kinds as the colors are lighter and darker.

Gita

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Morning : o) Slept in and catching up on mail, watering and laundry.

Gita...All of the tall, flowering plants are Cleome. I have them in purple, pink and white. Purple predominates, then white, then pink. They produce thousands of seedlings each year but are very easy to pull out. I love them and they have begun to ripen seed. I took some of the pink last week. They do as well in the shade as in the sun. They get about 3.5 -5' tall and I pinch or cut mine a couple of times in late spring/early summer. My kitchen is built into a bank so two of the windows look out at ground level. In the window well that faces west, there are three growing in the little concrete bunker formed as this window is about 2/3rds of the way below ground. They get NO sun (maybe ˝ hr a day of light shade) and are growing in about ˝” of “dirt”. They are about 18” tall and will flower soon. They bloom from mid-summer to frost. The ones in the picture below are growing in gravel over hard packed clay dirt not good enough to be called soil and out of the crevices of a stone wall where dirt has accumulated enough to support their roots. I planted one plant about eight years ago and all of these are from "her".

I am keeping the seeds labeled as to color this year, usually I just mix them but I want more of the pinks. Most of what you see in the picture below is purple and they are very dark as buds and then lighten to medium purple and then almost to white. They flower from the bottom of the stalk up higher and higher as the summer progresses. Lots of flowering side shoots, too.

If anyone would like seed, just ask, I have thousands. They grow fast and bloom quickly.

Judy….the large one is Bart, Barley, or Bar-Pear, as his registered name is “Shine On Bartlett Pear” The little buff spaniel is “Merry”. (There is a smaller one yet, Meeka...a seven pounder)

Off to the farm to pick up some sweet corn and anything else that catches my fancy. Be back later to chat

ETA: Just looked at the picture after I posted it. The first flowers on the right hand side of the picture? There is a purple to the forefront, directly behind it is a pink. Then move to the next clump on your left and now pink is in front of purple. The difference betwen the two is much more obvious in the garden than in pictures, at least the pictures I take ;o)

Beth,
Oh what a wonderful gift the Creator gave. You have one spectacular flower there.

Does it appear to be in full bloom? From the photo it looks kind of 3-d and still opening. Any idea on it's name? Her colors are so beautiful! ohwa, I can't wait to describe it to DH.

Jan, Wow, I am glad to find out the name of Cleone- "We" have them growing in a small garden area around the corner of where I work. I have always wondered what they were called. Always thought they were some kind of phlox.
I like your "kids" names! Our neighbor puppy is Caydon Marie-she is a beautiful Tri-Color Collie. I couldn't believe how fast she grew in one year. I'll post a picture as she was invited to my sons B-day gathering...Very well behaved.
We have a Gerbal -Jake adopted it. Named him Bear, he looks just like a tiny black bear-will try to remember to get his picture this weekend.

Jan,

I have had Cleomes before and somewhere I have seeds for it, but they would be pretty old.

I would love to have some seed from all 3 colors. Either for Postage or I have a lot of seeds to trade you as well. What other seeds do you have?
Don't want to "hijack" this thread, so we could continue this through D-mails.

Yours look so healthy! They must get good sun all day to stay "straight up". The ones I had were in a partially shaded bed (a maple above it) and so they reached out and were kind of unruly. I have problems growing anything flowering in this bed. The very nearby tree does not help. Roots all over the bed, but then you said yours were growing in gravel over clay! Hmmmm...Must be the sun then. Many flowering plants prefer full sun.
This bed is along my shed which is, kind of, a chalet-like looking building. My Ex's creation. It is kind of neat, but sure needs a handyman's attention to fix some parts of it up. Oh, well.....

I will send you a D-mail and list some seeds you might be interested in.

Tell us about your house! I clicked on your name and saw the picture of it. So unique! It looks very old. How old? What is the inside like?
I was hoping to see a picture of YOU! EVERYONE should post their picture on their Home page so others can see what you look like by clicking on your name. I would like to--- anyway.....I have mine there--if you click on my name.
Kind of nice to add a face to a name.

Thanks, Gita

Have included mine as well Gitagal...such a pretty lady...not only as someone said we on this thread are soooo 'cool' but we're goodlooking as well..lol...

Talk about windy outside, lawn furniture blowing all over the yard..no rain though but maybe it's coming...

Just had such a pleasant surprise...a couple from a nearby town dropped in for 1/2 hr. visit..brought me container of plants...my goodness, what a treat..Darlene dropped in this morning with a set of b.b.q. utensils in plastic case that she had purchased for me this week sometime, Mike dropped in to move something for me and now George and Grace...I'm overwhelmed much of the time by all the kindness I've been shown...such a funny feeling of always receiving...I often think someone must have put an add somewhere that said 'adopt Betty' show her kindness..lol..it is appreciated though...thought I'd share their photo...

Betty,

What you GIVE--comes back a hundred fold. Just believe that. I am sure you give a lot!

I, also, used to have a hard time accepting gifts/favors. Now I just say a gracious "Thank You" and that is that. Even if i will never use the item. It is making the giver feel validated for her thoughtfulness. What you do with the gift is up to you.

It is like when your kids were little and they drew pictures for you--and you put them on the fridge with a magnet to make them feel good. And then--they stayed there "forever"!
It is important to make the "giver" feel validated and good about her generosity. When that person comes over, you can always whip it out and make her feel good that you are "using" her gift. Learning to "cheat" in life in an honorable way is OK.
