Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Part 13

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes Shar..just thought he'd be at home with Missy thinking it was Daisy...it's ok not to be one as much as I, I'm just restless as well so keep extremely busy...DG is a good pastime...you know that feeling...before you know it Ethan and your son will be visiting again...calling for rain later tomorrow aft. - let's hope...I told the lady in the nursery this morning that the plants I bought looked half dead..she laughed and said they were sleeping till spring, not to worry, they get excited to break ground come May...that's how much I know about flowers...did buy a rose bush though...will keep trying...

Must be in high 90's with humidity factored in...playing with the window stained glass..had bought some Mosaic glue - glass to glass...seems to be working...no specific pattern..just glass at random..at least that's what I'm trying for..even if it doesn't turn out..it kept me busy for a few hours...

Looked at the Hosta's Starzz and they were still asking arm and a leg..perhaps next weekend they'll be discounted..was telling a friend about all the varieties there are, she couldn't believe it so Thursday we stopped at a nursery and they must have had about 15..cute little miniature with scalloped edges...

Good for you Laura..perhaps a few days of quiet - resting will bring you back to your old self..you've gone through so much these past months...you must take care of yourself..don't worry about anyone else..they can fend for themselves I'm sure...you need 'TIME OUT'...to say the least...I'll be thinking about you....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bed time, sure do hope you all enjoyed your day..

Best thing...managed to accomplish headboard/chair (sprayed white)
and the glass insert with random pieces of glass...

Worse...have it all grouted, which not only stayed between each piece of glass but in glass detail...not so sure if I go nappy/nap that it will remain there forever..1st time I try this process...oh well, just glass, right?

What did I learn today...there are so many out there that have such difficult times..Michelle dropped in a little while ago, took her hubby's word that there would be no more drugs...paid$1,100.00 for deposit on rental house..2 days later, he's back on drugs, she's back up here at her moms and the owner of the house says no refund..if that isn't heart wrenching...I'd better say a 'few' prayers for them this evening..her mother is under stress and crying all the time...boy, makes you appreciate your life...

Girlfriend dropped in this afternoon with a pattern where you get a 'walmart' sweatshirt and transform it into a 'cardigan'...too late in the week to try that one right? lol...

so do hope you enjoyed yourselves today...

Omg Liz...some plants do want to flourish don't they..on Georgian Bay we have high cliffs and right from these cliffs are beautiful pine trees, must have less than 1 cup of earth..wonder how they can survive...

Well Liz, as I was saying last night in D-mail...things don't turn out 100% always...piece is beautiful but I didin't stay up the 2 hours to completely wash the grout out...the very texture clean pieces still have grout..looks lovely though..but I'm going to town at 8am to pick up some brillo pads...will look beautiful..it's just the extra work involved...so, leason learned..lol...

Hope as you wake, you've many things planned for the day..hope you will share when able to...

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh my gosh, Liz....Strong, determined little guys, aren't they? We must pull out and mow down about a thousand of them all summer long. Whenever I browse the "Invasive Plants" forum...I get a guilt attack....but still allow five to flourish here. Life is a balancing act.....as well as a carnival (okay...you deadhead generation babes outo there "Life Is A Carnival"....not the dead...but who is it?)

Wow...guess I better go run some coffee and pull myself back into this decade....bbl after I wake up to read what you all were up to last night......

morning all,

as for the family drama, my sis is asking if i heard about the blow out so i responded to we went to see the inlaws and left it at that.
this morning my cousin jim is comming over going to breakfast then to two flea markets in oakland he has never been to,once we get there i have to ditch dh and cousin before they embarrass me (both practical jokers) two peas in a pod have a great day everyone

betty look foward to seeing the compleated project
jan, lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, can't wait to hear all about your day..especially all the goodies you've purchased at the flea markets...wish I was there...

Well finally we have rain...came down quite heavy, but, now stopped so at least I won't have to water this evening...finished my frame, ok I guess..matches...when I told Darlene what I was up to she said she had 4 little cafe chairs for me and Aline dropped by and she brought them over...had a large rocker but too big for back deck..so, sent it back with her lol...now I have next weekend's project sitting ready to go..paint chairs red and do black/white cushions...then probably there will be a week or so left for me to enjoy and it will be fall..but there's always next year - right...

Thought I'd share...

When Pat dropped in yesterday she brought a sweater jacket done with sweatshirts..she left one for me to follow and instructions so this morning while at walmart I purchased both material and sweatshirt..no black in stock, now I'll have to go shopping in Toronto for a few more shirts....easy as 1-2-3

Its raining here too Yahooo!!!!!

I did some yardwork this morning..Cut down a tent caterpillar nest from one of my birch trees and burned them.
Did I say it was raining..oh the smell of it wafting through the screen.. LOL

Betty your glass frame is wonderful. What an lovely transformation you have done on your deck The frame sort of defines the area..nice and cozy..and is oh so pretty.

Is the beige sweatshirt and leaf pattern material for your own version?
That will be nice for the fall..I can't believe how fast this summer has gone by..but I guess we say that every year.

Going to carry on reading a book now..my first one by Maeve Binchy. Whitethorn Woods.
When I was working I could never sit still long enough to read very often. Now I can.

Have a great afternoon..

Cheers,
Carol

Well it's almost bedtime, telephone rings for Bed and Breakfast..imagine at this time of evening...anyway he's on a 1,000 mile trek..this is a little over 1/4 of the way for him...SO, here I am, shortly looking to settling in and I have a guest..that goodness house is in order..not that he's care..he did 230 miles today..looks exhausted..would have done anything for a cold cold beer..NO BEER..did have alcohol but he passed on it for ginger ale...so, might cook some muffins to save time in the morning..it's a work day for me...I know, I know, you'll scream at me if I tell you what I'm going to do..I'll leave everything out for him, I'll leave a note with the $$$$ amount and go to work...if he leaves the money, bonus for me, if he doesn't..oh well, he's a stranger in the area that needed a place to spend the night...he's probably in his late 40's...sitting on deck at the moment talking to his wife so she doesn't worry...ooops, just came in..be back to finish my post....the best/worse and what did I learn today...

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

All of you ladies are amazing! I so enjoy reading each post.

Betty, I want to move in with you! Not only does your house looking charming and inviting, you'd feed me too! And we could do crafts....! Your sun porch looking beautiful!!! I love the floor mat!

Tangie, my day of working at home was uneventful. I think most of my group was either out or on a team fun-day. Only 5 more days of work and I swear, I am SO looking forward to it!! I know everyone thinks I should be upset and scrambling around looking for a job but I am just so excited to "not have to work" for 2 months (my redeployment period)! Of course my luck, I'll go in this week and get offered a position and have to start it on the 20th with no break. Am I greedy or what??? I did go for an interview at the garden center I'd love to work at and I pretty much left there with an offer of a full time job in the perennials section. Here's the down side(s): the pay is very low - less then half of what I make now and the hours are LONG. During peak times, you can expect to work 60-65 hrs and six days a week. Of course you get overtime for anything over 40 hrs. I just don't think I can do it. If our kids weren't young and I didn't HAVE to work for the money, I'd do it. But even if the money was good, that's a lot of time working and away from my family.

So we went to the lake this weekend. Got down there early yesterday morning and met our friends. There ended up being over twenty people - at least 12 kids - 2 yrs to 12 yrs. We spent the day hanging out in the water and floating around. I went on my FIRST jet ski ride! I thought "I'm going to die. All I have is this flimsy plastic strap to hang on to and I'm going to fly off the back and die"! Well, I didn't and I actually really enjoyed it! It was a nice big jet ski that can hold 3 people and go very fast! I went back on it today with my son in the middle and he loved it! Of course, he got the strap to hang on to and I was suppose to hang onto him! Well, I squeezed my fingers into that strap too and by the time we were done, my hands were numb - again, it was fun!

Well, I'm off to bed. I hope you all have a wonderful evening! I'll check in tomorrow!

Cheers!

evening all,

laura, oh yuck what a thing to find and yes they do smell out a place lol i think iv'e done that dance a time or two sounds like a fun time comming up for you funny you said hippie it reminds me of my favorite place to go visit in san francisco haight ashbury they have just the greatest things to buy that you wouldnt find in other stores.

carol, beautiful lily, wish i could read everytime i try somehow i think of something to make and down goes the book

betty, i would love a close up of the glass framed peice its beautiful i was by walmart but dh didnt want to stop and i would like learn more from you on what this pattern consists of design wise it looks very easy by the photo oh i like the chairs to, betty be careful i hope you get a envelope.

well we went for breakfast omg those two were to much as usual so we got to the flea market markets but i didnt get but three peices i have a pic of what i got but the little girl form there was someone who had just the form and i asked how much she said 15.00 which kinda sounded to high so i left and dh tried but she wouldnt budge so i said forget it i dont need it well two isles down this guy was selling it dressed he said i'll take 10.00 so i grabbed it then i got a bird cage and this guy was selling a glass and tile cutter called amasing tools its a cryogenic tempered, tungsten carbide wheels he demonstrated on tile and glass omg it was one score center over the line and grip the handle and there you go any shape perfect

dh said no you dont need it cousin and i looked at each other and said wow 10.00 we'll take one then he asked if we wanted replacements 2for 5 so we split the cost on that
then we came home to sewer back up we have a electric snake but it woudnt unclog so off to the tool rental place to get a bigger one the clog was at the main i guess we could of called the city but they take all day to arrive but dh unclogged it that was a happy ending, then cousin and i looked through old photos he copied alot of them we had lunch.
i had a box of fruit and veggies from the inlaws for him some cement leaves for my sis and grannys rent check he said he would be happy to deliver all, i told him your mom and dad are going to give you a bad time" where you all day" he is so silly he told me oh i have a master plan when i get home im going to tell the greek parliment just like the olive branch heres some friut for you he said that will stop the interagation the'll be to side tracked. well ive yapped to much everyone have a good evening liz

Victoria Harbour, ON

Didn't get to post last night so I'll add it in this orning..

Best...visits off and on all day..June brought over the victorian dresses she's making out of vintage cloth and nighties cut to make dresses for little girls..Aline brought me over a sweet 'treat' as though I needed one, Ann dropped in to show me the flower pots that she painting..going to fill them in with gardening items for a 'craft ' sale (she's staying up another week) Darlene, although she did not visit, sent me 4 cafe chairs and Michelle came just to say 'hi' so, my life is blessed with such wonderful people..that's got to be a best...

Worse...morning call from Aline, thought I'd want to know that Doug Viddler (a friend) had passed away at the young age of 55, his body however, due to misuse thought he was 95..just dropped to the floor...heart attack...

What did I learn..that when you decide to do 'Bed and Breakfast' you have to be ready at the spur of the moment..both with food and clean house...

So, the gentleman's name is Michael..(already paid me) so that was today's bonus..he hadn't eaten since lunch hour so I cooked him a steak/potatoes/yellow beans (all which I had just eaten 1 1/2 hrs. prior..so he appreciated left overs..however, was exhausted...bathed and immediately went to bed...so I had to be quiet as a mouse as am I now...

So upstairs I go, will try my hand at muffins..will leave everything out for him..he asked if he could sleep in till 10am..told him yes but that I was out of here at 7am and a painting group would be here about 8:45 am but only use the downstairs so just make himself at home..

Asked me for a card..said he's pass it on...so that's a good sign - right?
Soooo I'm off for now...back to work for a 'rest' lol and at which time I'll have 6 hrs to play and respond to all your posts...

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

OK, finally life is kinda back together enough!

Best: There were so many! Had a surprise friend come for the party, plus all the folks I knew were coming, and just overall had a great time!

Worst: For the first time EVER I fell asleep before everyone else. Usually I'm the one up all night, so apparently I felt my age immediately (ok, y'all can keep the age comments to yourself..lol)

What I learned: Well, didn't really learn, but it was reinforced how important my friends are to me and how cool it was that everyone drove up for the party. And everyone even cleaned up pretty well.

Here's a pic of the carnage the next day...which is not bad at all compared to it used to look when we were in college. I was really glad some folks were going around with trash bags all night ;)

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Funny pic - there are no stray pieces of clothing though? Sounds like you had a great time with great friends!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Well, I understand what you're saying, bluekat,

But our stables aren't quite sturdy enough here.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Trop - too funny on the "carnage". When my DH's family gets together, we have lots of carnage too. They are all beer drinkers (can't stand the stuff myself!) so when we get together it's a "beerfest". Funny but when I step back and think about our get togethers, you'd think they all were a bunch of alcoholics from all the cans and bottles left over. It's also funny that no matter how much beer they drink - no one gets "drunk". Vacation in two weeks down in Cape Hatteras. I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Yeah, liquor is so much less messy...lol

Glenview, IL

Good Morning,
Happy Monday to all-
Well the weekend prooved to be Humid! Too hot todo any real work for me. However, did fill another bag of weeds. Little by liitle.

So, Friday after work stopped for material. Got to giggle here, as well gardening seems to take presendence overall. Material is just too cute. One side is a print and other side is solid that I am doing embroidary. Flowers at the botom and the sun up at the top.

Then, Saturday discovered didn't have the right colors of floss! Back to the fabric store I go. Had to find the material to match up colors.Low and behold, found another bolt of the most adorable fabric. Don't know how I missed it the first time around! So got to thinking, Never made Josephine's sister Alberta anyhting. She's 2. Can you guess? Decided to make her a blankie too. Her's has the cutest little Duckies, will send a picture this afternoon. Now then, still browsing in case to miss something else...Found Raggedy Ann and Any Print!! Ok, so now how do I dare send the 2 babies a blankie and not the twins....(Like my way of thinking?) They 3 1/2 still not to old for a blanket- So I found blue squares for Jack and Pink for Jazz! Now I've 4 blanket to make...Um didn't tell DH about the cost-I went in to get floss intending to spend all of maybe $3 and left with a bag spending $35 in material---hahahah-well I guess i am just too Happy to spoil my little ones.

Glenview, IL

Oh bummer forgot to send picture!

Hi everyone,

I am back, I sure hope you are all having a good day today.

Wow, the weekend chatter has been very busy here in the forum!

Betty, Wow You sure can find some great items. I really LOVE the latest find. Are you placing them in the garden. I think, the sitting area in the porch is lovely with the new checker table cloth layerswith the white one. You have it set up so nicely I just want to come and sit with my embroidery. Your gardens sure are relaxing enough, that I may just sit and ponder throughout.
It being Mon-you are at work-probably lots to do on the first day back. Wondering if your Boss (BIL) got the new building closer? Or are you still waiting to hear.
The sweatshirt Jacket is a fantastic idea! Doesn't look to hard to do either.

Liz-Sorry, to hear you are caught in the middle of family fueding. Although I hope it is settling by now. I get caught in the middle of some of our family "webs" . I find it to be unsettling too. Unless i am brought into whatever it is going on, I try and just be the listener. Not much i can do from where I am but I guess just letting the involved parties vent is sometimes good. Maybe that what they needed, and you were the sweetheart that got to hear all about it.
...on a happier note, I just love the little garden doll you have, she sure makes me want to coma and see what she is peeking at!

Tropi-so glad your B-day bash was full of fun. I especially love how people help to do the cleanup-

Wonder, While I am not dancing about your find-Such a drag that you had to deal with that, and oh yeah, I can hear you screaming all the way over here! LOL- I have to think on how to describe the Happy Wonder Dance...but iit involved hand clapping for praise and some be-bopping, and swaying of the upper body - all sitting in my chair so tapping of the foot in tandom with the sway.

Carol, How wonderful you beautiful GD's will have grand memories of their day and blueberry picking was. We used to go Strawberry picking witht eh kids when they were little. Always a fun outing. Oh and oh my what a glorious Oriental your latest bloom was! Wow kind of reminded me of sherbert icecream with it's coloring. How was her fragrance as nice as the CasaBlanca?

Blue -What fun! So glad you are working with Shar on the market paintings- Sounds like a great idea. Now Kim, there is absolutley nothing wrong with sitting and doing nothing! Sometimes we just have to do that, i have to admit I do enjoy it every now and again. So stop beating yourself up-You Deserve a break!

Well hello Jazz! Very nice update on how you are getting along with mom and Daisy.
Shar, Sounds like Jazzy is keeping you on your toes. Thanks for sharing the pics So cute the one of the two nose to nose.

Tangi, I am just ahhhhing over the Hibiscus. Wow the would look really cool in thread!

Well, my mind just went blank for the all i wanted to say. LOL too much to catch up on.
So I will bid you a good luch and bbl!

Judy

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Judy..yes the Tom Pouce Oriental lily is very fragrant.

Betty..sorry about your friend..too many men die young. Great to hear about another nice person staying at your B&B..I imagine you ahve lots of wrok to catch up today..

Wonder..glad you got the nasty thing out and cleaned up.

Trop..glad you had a great party..leaves you with a nice glow afterwards thinking about it.

Liz..I have one of those birdcages..I put a pot of flowers in it and hung it from a tree. Last year I had trailing ivy in it.

I have a friend coming over tomorrow and just baked some cookies for her kids...(from a Mix)
Her son loves to ride the lawn tractor around.

I had a little visit from two little girls from next door today..they brought me a piece of banana bread they helped their Nana bake..and they made me a necklace of beads. I played all my musical carousel horses for them and they danced. Cute.

Cheers,
Carol

Oh, I can't remember who asked, but I have a picture of me (lol...kinda) with a skirt. So you guys can tell, they aren't short cause I don't think THAT highly of myself...lol

I'm the one on the right with the hair in my face and non-existent cleavage showing. And yes, just a little shy...lol

Be back shortly to post..toook forever to find it..is this a new format or am I loosing it...
Yes, I've been up since 4:30..even baked muffins for B&B guest..was doing ever so good in keeping quiet until I opened oven to take muffins off and there goes the fire alarm...here I am with broom in hand swatting it to beat the devil..anyway, guest said he didn't hear it...got fruit/muffins/cereal all organized on a place setting and was ready to leave for work and he got up..so left him to eat in peace ..now to work...

Got to work and the underground parking card would not allow us in..parked in the lot only to find out that the main hydro grid was down and 3 buildings had no power...but we did have some emergency power and they said the hydro would be on by 11:00..so I sat and knit on Shar's sweatercoat and waited patiently for 11...cancelled Paul's aft. appointments - had to leave a message on the 11am..Paul and Suzanne both went out and did errands while Cindy and I gabbed...client came in at 11..didn't get the message so used cel phone to call Paul as 10:50 the entire building was in darkness and the telephone lines were dead...superintendant came and said other 2 buildings now had power but out main unit was gone so it would take at least 3 to 4 hrs. before it would come back on..soooo Paul said he'd stay and sent us home....

What a treat on first day back...stopped in Barrie..needed more wool at Michael's and then went to Walmart and picked up 6 cans of red spray paint in hopes of doing the cafe chairs...
girls were here painting when I got home so they stayed an extra hour and gabbed, then they decided to help me put Sailor in the tub and give her a bath... bath's not bad it's when she shakes ... mess all over the floor...so I'm off to clean it up and wash floor, bedding from B&B in dryer so once I make the bed I'll be heading outside to play... have 1 chair done in red..will look pretty (almost bought 2 of each color - green/black/red/white) might have been too busy looking so I stuck to red...yuk - I smell..so better take a bath myself..smell doggy...

So, sure did miss you all this morning..will be back in a few hours to gab...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trop..we cross posted..you are so young and beautiful...one can only dream!
So glad you enjoyed your birthday with these friends...and..no hangover..that's wonderful...well, must go..talk later...

68°, Dark.

The mother type carbon unit made it back safely from the bus tour to Ky & so I am back in my own home. I will go back over there today to try and complete repairs to her riding mower, replace her modem and get some pictures of the cabin.
I noticed when I was there over the weekend that she seems to be Hosta crazy, she has them planted everywhere. I guess they are low maintenance and seem to be fairing well with the current drought. I guess whatever type plant makes her happy.

Sue (DW) is getting ready for work, an old Neil Young song is playing on the computer and my mind is racing along trying to figure out how much I can get accomplished before Fridays shift to UVA Charlottsville. Gotta get one of the cars inspected etc.

Everyone take care of you & yours, and have a good Monday.

Dyson, looks like you've had a full day today...could you let me know what a 'mother type carbon unit is??? Virginia's getting that heat wave as well I see....we'll all be complaining once the cold weather comes...lol ...love Neil Young...

Well every one, I'm going to leave my posting to each of you for tomorrow...just watered all my pretties, spray painted the 4 cafe chairs red..think they should have been black..oh well, maybe another day...finished cleaning the mess from Sailor's bath, now it's mommy's turn and just PERHAPS I'll get myself a book and read in bed for an hour or so..usually I last 5 minutes..but maybe tonight's the night...

Anyway did so enjoy your posts..Judy loved the baby blankets...

I'm missing Tangie tonight...Tangie? Tangie? hope you are ok....

well night/night all of you..sleep tight..know you are in my prayers.....

Gardengirl..was there where we are having our 'family' reunion with you? can't seem to remember the exact address...hmmmm...did you forget to tell me????

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Once again, I am far too behind to catch up since my employment thing is taking up a lot of time and I am going to start a computer keyboarding class tomorrow.

Laura congrats to you. Hot digity Dog. lol

B Is it a trumpet vine? You said big. Looks nice. I think if you have a lot of vines and all on the fence, it muffles the sound too, for when you have people out there in the B&B. You never siad anything about the zoning laws there for a business in a residential area. They don`t let you here unless zoned for a business.

Liz you have to be true to you, always. You did right by heading your Mom off at the pass. No matter what you do or say, someone will disagree with your point or nuetral lack thereof, but still you have to please You, not them. I got disowned years ago because I wouldn`t NOT speak to my bilogical father who had written me a letter. I didn`t make him my father, so why am I being punished for her actions, but if I had chosen their view, maybe I would not be disinherited. You have to weigh out what is most important to you. It may not be what I chose, but I am happy with my choice for me. Be true to your rights and wrongs.

Shar that dang bundle of fluff is so big already. They are so cute and must have needed eachother too.

Trop the grass is always greener. I`d kill for your body and hair. Can`t see your face. lol

Can you please come over and teach that one to my DW? Life, in general would get much simpler.

Hi, all.......another one of those weeks where I just can't seem to catch more than a minute or two online before some RL interruption comes along that thinks it should take priority over chatting. Go figure.

Determined to be back later to try to catch up with the past day or two......

(Dyson, probably not going to happen.....bet she keeps you on your toes :o)

Neil...still smart after all these years

*Well I dreamed I saw a dust bowl
Where the farmers used to live
Earth was flying through the sky
It had nothing left to give
Tractors were burning
On the Whitehouse lawn
Just woke up one morning
And the farmers all were gone

I hate to say the farmer
Was the last of a dying breed
Living off the land
And taking what he needs.
Don't say much for the future
When a family can't survive.
I'd hate to say the farmer
Was the last of his kind.*
