Whats blooming today #10

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Al. Wow- that is spectacular, even though it's not a single! Amazing colors and a great photo.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Doh!! NW Cosmos is a Dahlia?! Wow - looks too nice. Hee hee. Thanks - do you have any other singles? I have that Dahlia.org link you posted but I like to see plants in actual gardens of people I can trust.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Kass - you have Jean Marie - the camera loves that one. The second one you can deadhead - I hate those eyes - amazing I've lived this long right?LOL The third one is perfect. I had Chippendale last year - not a bad little and I mean little flower.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I don't know what you have against married dahlias - oh well. I'll think up some PF pics for you.

This one is a waterlily - 49er.

wow... that's gorgeous Al!!!! love it....
I have looked at Dan's Dahlias and the list is at 12 right now... oh brother,... I have to stop looking!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

My garden phlox finally bloomed!!! Yeah!!but it's the wrong color, boo!! I don't really remember which was which but it should have been either orange perfection or red tenor and it's pale PURPLE. Now I have to rip it out.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

very nice kassia & al

jen if you are going to throw it away... i will take it

:)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice pics - how did they get the pics for the bloom.com? Did you post it in plantifles?

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Just wanted to let you know I am now on #10 where I should be - not #9 or #11(wherever that is). I'll post my dahlia again - this time it might possibly be Thomas Edison?? Eleanor

Anita, they pick from PlantFiles. Also, I notice you can nominate your own photos in PF to be considered. My photo was put in PF a couple of years back.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al that last dahlia 49er...looks like swirled Christmas ribbon candy or the stripes on the candy stripers at the hospital. It's a really neat dahlia! And I was going to guess "Thomas Edison" on Eleanor's dahlia only because it's a common one and i've owned it before.

Kassia, nice dahlia's...are we trying to keep up with Al?

Victor, that 'Magilla Perilla' is beautiful, I just love the colors in it!

This is 'Kiss Proof'

Allison:

Thanks for the 'rhodie' info. Now I have another place to spread my coffee grounds. Ours didn't bloom at all this year, but since the DSIL almost drowned it in cedar mulch this spring, it has really taken off with tons of new branches and really healthy looking leaves. It is beginning to form its buds for the spring now.

Do you mulch the rhodie, too? I mean, for the winter?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Great pics everyone! Love them all.

A few things blooming here:

New clematis for me this year, 'Betty Corning'.

I like Blue Paradise. Do all the flowers on Bety Corning face down?

Kiss Proof you say Celeste.

Got a nice butterfly pic today.

Al, yes at least so far, they hang down like little bells. Blue Paradise is blue early in the morning and gets more pinky purple as the light changes, then starts to get more blue in the evening again.
Nice bee and butterfly pics, particularly like the bee. Your coneflowers all look so happy, mine are getting a little tired looking after so much heat and humidity. A lot of them are new so they are still making good root systems I hope.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I love the butterfly pic Al - well done! I'm also liking Night Queen.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Al, Betty Corning is a nodder. I think you're trying to traumatize me with that YJ photo! For everyone else, a blood test just verified what I already kind of knew - I am very allergic to a number of hornets, including YJ's, and honeybees. Great hobby I picked - I have chronic back and knee problems and am allergic to bees. Checkers would have been safer.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Celeste, I am trying to follow the leader!!!!! dahlias are also addictive//// too bad they are high maintanance!!!!! have to recognize that they are really gorgeous...

Nice Kassia

Victor - Checkers? Is he still alive - he was pardoned too I believe.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Al:

Great photos of the bee (ugh) and the butterfly. Funny you chose such a hazardous hobby with which to relax.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Al - I believe Ford's dog pardoned him.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks... I am not very good making arrangements.... I can plant them... but usually my mom and sister place them in vases...lol....

I can't help it... I just love their exuberance!!!!

Kassia and Ngam..........lots of pretty pics from both of you! I had a lot to catch up on......

Candyce - My rhodie didn't bloom this year either!! I think I'll give it some mulch...It is waiting to get moved into a new garden, so I'm just trying to keep it happy in its temporary place for now.

Al - that butterfly with the pink and blue flowers is as pretty as they get!!! I love how colorful that pic is! Night queen is also pretty, along with the cones!!

Victor - Very funny re: the pardons!!! As to your allergies...do you have an epipen? My DH suddenly had a life-threatening reaction to a sting, after having been stung many times before without this type of reaction. Now he makes sure he has the epipen handy, even on the golf course.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I have a pen. I have to remember to carry it with me at all times now.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

That's good. This thread couldn't do without your witticisms!!! Stay well! And how cool for you and Allison to have your pics on bloom.com! Very nice!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Candyce i have everything mulched all year..... i like the look plus all the good things it has to offer ... keeps weeds down, retains water, etc

great pictures again today everyone.... love the butterfly al

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

bigcityal...nice color combination with the coneflowers. They stand out nicely in bunches like that. Suppose I'll have to get coneflowers someday. Once you have them, they're great I guess. The per price plant (considering how many of things I like to buy) is making me put it off.

Kassia...I'm still waiting on Dahlia's. They haven't been too high maintence for me, it was just planting the bulbs the second week in June which wasn't a great idea (but it was cancel the order I placed a month earlier or, since my credit card has been charged, hang in and see what happens). Of 9 bulbs, 8 came up. 5 will bloom for sure this year. 2 are iffy and 1 is so small I'll be amazed if it makes it to bloom.

Oh well...guess I can save the bulbs and have great plants next year.

I think.

Or is there a problem with that? These Dahlias are in the primo spot in the yard this year and hate to waste the space next year too. Be better to put them off somewhere inconspicious and plant things people can see for a few months in the best area? Most anything would have been better than Dahlias with no blooms here in July and, it looks like, most of August.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Onewish, any wrong color plants I transplant into a "whatever goes" garden. I'll let you know if I need to get rid of anything. Thanks.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

a gorgeous and huge flower .... hosta that was a present from Pirl.... my dear Pirl, this is the biggest flower I have ever seen in a hosta!!!

Cosmos Kass - looks good though.
My plantinginea is open here now, that has to be about the toughest hosta I have - plus I like the later flowering.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I have a hosta with huge flowers too. I love the tiniest hint of purple in it too.

I also love Portulaca - Moss Rose. Such a carefree plant. I have to remember to plant more of it next year.

Al that butterfly shot is award winning!!! Great picture and the colors are stunning!

Anita I know what you mean about the moss rose's. I plant them each year and always wish i'd of bought more. They are DH's favorite annual and nothing tickles him more than to see some selfseeders in the spring.

Kassia that a great pic of the rose's and zinnia's.

A better shot of 'Kiss Proof' for Al.
