Thought I'd move us over....
Best/Worse/What did I learn today! Part 11
morning all,
murmur, thank you
wonder that was a dirty deal i hope you can get things reversed
herbie, thats one talented lady
betty i want a foot stool lol
well everyone have a wonderful day liz
OMG/OMG...just got a d-mail from Gillibean...she's visiting family and will be on her way home on the weekend...AND...she and her family are going to drop in Sunday afternoon and are going to stay with me overnight..isn't that exciting...oh, my first DG friend visit..now I'll have to plan/plan something nice to eat that I won't burn, (restaurant next door is closed on Sundays) oh wow is me! or them! can't cook, but I'll try....isn't that exciting all.....
Betty, could you order pizza? lol Fellow non-chef here.
I had my first visit by a DGer this weekend and I got all worried that with DD gone, me and the boyfriend had let the house look like a couple of bachelors lived here.
So I just told her that the yard looked fine but that I hadn't seen that good-for-nothing housekeeper in awhile. She was cool about it, she only came to see the yard anyway ;)
Frank, your Debbie is incredibly talented and creative. How beautiful!!!!!
And I loved the flower photos and the hummingbird moth (?) I have never seen one.....
Laura, good luck with the work situation.
Now I know I have missed somebody, but can't flip back and forth between threads or will for sure lose my train of thought and probably this post.....never could do two things at once.
Oh...Betty, what a thing to look forward to...how fun!!!!! and exciting, and I am sure Gillibean doesn't mind sandwiches and salads......You did a ton of work on the gazebo and everything else over the weekend, so you deserve a rest today at work. (chuckle).
worked on the rocker yesterday and thought I had finished it, but am not happy with the gold on the duck part, so painted it out last night and am rethinking it today.....hate when that happens.
anyway...not much exciting in my life.
Best for the weekend: went to dinner with friends on saturday nite, enjoyed that.
worst: the silly duckheads on the rocker....
what I learned......mistakes can be corrected.
Have a good Monday....
Oh.....Murmur......great to read your posts!!!!!
Just kidding, when it comes down to a crunch I can get through it...sitting here already planning a menu..think she has 3 kids..new baby so that will be fun and DH...I'll just be on cloud nine till Sunday...
Tropicanna, as always you make me laugh...how did DG friends enjoy the gardens...
In digging the pond and then the area for the picture frame I've found at least 3 or 4 feet of white sand, keep adding soil to it, wonder if there are any plants out there that would prosper in sand only area...any suggestions...
Shar, can't wait to see the rocker...was it gold foiled? sometimes that can be tricky..you'll come up with something I'm sure...
And thanks, nice just sitting today...have a birthday party to go to when I get home...that young lady I asked for prayers for on the Prayer Line is having her 41st birthday today..her daughter 10 years old came over last night and handed me a little piece of paper saying...'party for my mommy - come at 6 and go home at 8pm' so cute..she feels bad that her mom is alone...I'll get my gift together and join them...don't know if I'll stay till 8pm though..need to go and pick up table/chair set so I can be creative on the weekend...
Betty, I think she enjoyed it, we're a bit different as I'm sure y'all would have guessed, but she seemed to laugh and have a good time. Our daughters played, which was cute :)
Wish I could help you out for sand only in your zone...all I can think of are really hardy salvias.
thank you all. she has a talent for these things but most of all for planning parties. when we send out the invitations for bridal shower we are going to make our own personalized stamps.since this party will be a special bbq catered party we will either make the stamps with a photo of a chef with bbq tools in his hand standing over a grill of maybe just a picture of chris and danielle. i keep telling her to go into business as a party planner.
wonder - i know some people in new york who for a few dollars will go out by you and take care of the problem. (if ou know what i mean) LOL
you girls are soooo talented. you are giving us men a bad name.
maybe we could all move to utah (aren't the men allowed to have multiple wives??) (grinning)
have a great day
Surely you jest, herbie,..........
Debbie should just dump a big bowl of the next pasta complete with sauce that she makes all over your head just for even thinking that thought.
My first thought when I saw what she had made was....she should be a party planner......she really knows how to entertain. Saw her christmas decorations in December on some thread....was impressed. Very talented lady. and you are lucky to have her.....how she puts up with you I will never know....(chuckle)
You know Herbie, you bring up a question I've long wondered the answer to, especially if men can have multiple wives in Utah (and was I making men sound bad?lol):
SO where is the place that women can have a man-harem? I'd like to know, possibly visit, maybe live...lol..
There you go again Tropicanna, have me laughing out loud...some of these women on these threads, wow, what a workforce we could have...my DH wasn't the best with tools, awe, don't go there ...just thought I'd share something cute:
Just had a washer put on top floor and left for work for a few hours .. got back and guess the new line was not completely tightened and I had about 2 inches of water all over the main floor...we had just done the kitchen, living room and laundry room floors so he had the brainstorm that maybe we should drill a little hole and let it drain into the basement where there was a sump pump...as the washroom was yet to be done, I thought 'why not' so, in the basement he goes (more a root celar and storage area) and I was to knock on the floor so he could hear where he was to drill, now imagine this, I'm in the hallway kneeling at the washroom threshold knocking hard, he says he can hear me clearly, yup, he knows there to drill...I can hear the drill sound, and all of a sudden, in the hallway where he wasn't to drill , the drill works it's way through the floor, through my slacks, I'm screeming inpain, drill is penetrating my kneecap, as the drill is catching in my slacks the excess material is working itself around the bit..blood is starting to pour out, I'm screeming, he's drilling and comes in from downstairs with big/big smile as he thinks he's accomplished much....hmmm, now you wonder why I had all the tools...lol...walked with a limp for weeks...he kept saying 'why didn't you move'...dah, my pants were wrapped around the drillbit...' give your head a shake! funny how you all talk about something and these little memories come flooding by...guess I have tooo much time on my hands here at work...
Hope you guys/gals don't mind my ramblings...

Please, Betty...if I was talking and not typing....
and I can identify with how you fell above, as I am (proudly) more mechanically inclined than my man.
However, if that were me Betty, wooo. All I can say is he should be very thankful to still be alive.
*giggle* dear dear betty...
wow how exciting that you are meeting a DGer. i hope one day... one day....
as for work, i had a talk to my manager and told him i was dissapointed and upset. i told him why and reminded him that he knew that i was waiting for that opportunity and it would have been nice to =be told there was a new position that had been made and not advertised. he apologised but it cant be reversed as they hired somone while i was away and she has started.
the other thing is, remember when i told you i was having problems with them and they were making comments about my weight? well, they said that i could not do the training as a licence tester as they didnt think i could get in and out of the car! how rude. i took them to task with it at the time and the big manager was not happy that i did. she made it personal and said there was no way she was letting me do it this year. blah balh blah, i had told her it was discrimination and on it went.
anyway these new people she has hired have to be trained to be testers. now she was in the postition that if she sent them for training and not me, she was up for a discrimination case so much to her disgust, she has to send me too... she's a cow. so i kind of won in a round about way... lol
tropicanna - my address is ------LOL
betty - that is so funny. i must say that i have a bag full of tools but i don't know how to use many of them. know what to do with the hammer and drill though.
deb yelled at me for putting that picture up becauseit was not done yet. she added a few things and now i can post it again
I have never posted on DG much except for the prayer forum but a very very special DG friend suggested that I might find this best/worst thread fun. I've been lurking and reading for a few days and I must say that you are such a talented bunch maybe I don't belong here. But, I'll give it a try.
The worst thing that happened today was that I got up this morning with poison ivy between every finger on both hands. I did work outside all week end but I had my gardening gloves on all of the time and I washed very carefully with the grease-cutting soap the doctor recommended I use. Oh well, I have lotion that will dry it up soon.
The best thing to happen recently was that I found a recipe that my family and friends are raving about. Perhaps you already have it and perhaps it belngs on the recipe forum but here it is anyway:
FRUIT FLOATS
Boil together 3 cups of water and 1 1/2 cups of sugar until the sugar dissolves. Set aside to cool.
When cool, add one 12oz can frozen orange juice concentrate, one 12 oz can frozen lemonade concentrate and a 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple in its own juice, undrained..
Finally, add any amount and combination of fresh, frozen or canned fruit. I've tried green seedless grapes, bing cherries, strawberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges and diced bananas (the lemonade keeps them from turning brown).
Place in the freezer until completely frozen, stirring occasionally so that the fruit stays evenly distributed. When ready to serve, scoop fruit mixture into a tall glass and add Sprite, Sierra Mist, 7-Up or a similar soda and enjoy.
This has been nice to have in the freezer as it keeps so well and it is such a refreshing treat to offer friends when they drop by. It goes well as a dessert or is good just as an afternoon or evening treat.
Thank you for letting me join your thread. I don't get a chance to post every day but I do read the posts and have been enjoying them so much. Judy
Oh, My, Herbie....are you going to have to go to bed without dinner AGAIN ????? When will you ever learn.
but it is beautiful just the same, and we all know how proud you are of all her talent!
JUDY....HOW NICE TO SEE YOU HERE!!!!!
You will love this thread, and your recipe sounds wonderful. thank you for sharing it. good luck with the poison ivy....
sharon

Judy..welcome....and there isn't anyone who doesn't belong, just supporting us kooks in our endeavours is talent in itself..right everyone? love the recipe, perhaps will try it for my DG's Gillean's visit...imagine me getting excited about cooking...Judy, not sure if you would have Jewelweed in your area, but I get poison ivy really bad, you take the jewelweed, open it's stem and rub the medicine on it and cures it as quick as any that I've bought...think the Jewelweed likes to grow in damp areas, ..if you find it and it's late in the season, cut the stem and flowers/leaves into small little pieces, add a touch of water, boil and use the juice...today I learned on another thread that once you make the juice you can put it in icecube trays and save for off season jewelweed needs...hope it helps
Well just got back from the birthday party the little 10 year old was having for her mom...had cake, there were cookings and cheese but the little gaffers ate them all..lol..not that I need goodies..but it was so cute..she was a perfect little hostess...
So, I'm off to make a call next door...fish and chips will fill the bill...
So for my best today was coming home and finding all the shutters on the windows and the back deck storage area almost completed....
Worse thing that happened, well, there really wasn't one...the worse I can think of is still no call from Greg..needed him to pick up my garage sale treasures...but that's not very tragic is it...
What did I learn..guess you have to stand your ground sometimes...Michelle next door returned the panel for the gazebo that was packaged incorrectly..they said they'd notify the company and have them send me one..Michelle said, nope, she just bought it yesterday in good faith and you have same in the box, replace ours and have them send you a new one..apparently they really did not want to do this but she said, well, we'll take the entire gazebo apart and return it in pieces...so, tonight I have my new screen....I'd have said 'ok that's fine' not wanting to create waves...glad I didn't go...
Just wanted to tell you once again, so do love talking with you all...you are very important to me and I'm sure each and every one of you feel the same...for those who have not posted for some time, we miss you!
Shar...pictures/pictures of the chair....waiting breathlessly...
Herbie..did you tell your dear wife that you posted because of how proud you are of her...she really should do party planning...
Laura...sounds like you stood up for yourself..that a girl..even if you get nowhere it will show that you have faith in yourself and aren't going to be a doormat...
Looks so pretty and in your colors right? Do you really think you need something done to the swans....maybe just a light drybrush...
Just went outside to put screen piece that was missing on..it's about 4" shorter than the others..so guess the trick will be to take all the screens back to home depot and request a new package...
evening all,
welcome judy
betty,, ramble away love all your stories, how exciting to have a dg visitor oh how lucky im sure you'll both have a fun time togeather gosh fish and chips does that sound so good , i have not had those in so long
sharran, the chair is looking good i especially like the gold contrast very striking i think your right maby swans
wonder: standing ovation applauding you glad you said something you go girl!!
best: had to stay over 11/2 hours at work for a class vendor gave all of us a silverbag with 4 retail size hair care products
worst: during the class two of our younger employees they became so embarrassing crumbling chip bags and crunching down on chips and swearing oh we were so embarrassed dont get me wrong, not that were not potty mouths but there's a time and place for that.
learned: i'll never sit next to the girls again lol
everyone have a good evening liz
haha thanks gang... welcome judy!
hmmm best thing today? UMMMMMM went for a nice walk in the afternoon sun, brisk and cool but nice after so much rain.
worst? had a headache all day. took painkillers and drank water with not much luck.
will go lie down.
x
judy - hello and welcome. believe me, you don't need talent here. they let me stay don't they. i love that recipe. you should put it on the recipe forum.
worst thing - i have to get up and bring my garbage to the collection area.
best thing - i am now off today having changed my days off from tues/wed to mon/tues
wonder - i'm no doctor but i don't think you should be taking pain killers for a headache no matter how it hurts. just put a cold compress on your forehead and lie down.
Laura, just read in parking lot - remedies for everything...the following:
"Did you know that drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately...without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional 'pain relievers'...can't wait to get a 'headache' in order to try it...NOT..just kidding...
Herbie, you know we love you on this thread as well...you keep us on the short/narrow....
Judy,Judy,Judy (know we have at least 3) hope you are enjoying the day!
Liz, funny the speaker didn't ask them to leave...nothing worse than feeling embarassed for someone elses ill manners...
The worst thing of my day so far is finding out that you all are on the 7th version of the Best/Worst thread that Betty started so many weeks ago! I left off on number 4 when my computer died in early June. Too much to catrch up on!! So many threads, so little time. Let me just say "hello" to you all and I've missed your refreshing chatter. But I don't spend as much time on the computer as I used to.
The best thing was opening Daves Garden yesterday and finding a Dmail from Bettypauze with a warm, inviting message attached. Made me remember how much I missed her and you all. You people are all special.
Nancy
Wow! I lost us for a day and now have to play catch up. Wondered how it could be that everyone got so quiet at the same time? What a dummy! (me, I mean)
Called in a favor at work and decided to take a spur of the moment personal day today. H is being a "pooh", something he almost never is...nothing terrible, don't want anyone to worry, he was just getting on my last nerve yesterday. I felt I needed a day to myself. Now, how do I enjoy it without feeling guilty. lol.
Going to read now. ttys
Herbie, that was pretty funny. Not sure we ever got to the point of legal polygyny anywhere in this country...lol
Hope everyone is is ok today
Kitty came home fromthe hospital-still looking pitiful and weak, but I'm still hopeful she'll get better soon
Tangie, everyone deserves a day to themselves, do something nice for yourself, pamper yourself, enjoy the day to the fullest, and then be as sweet as can be to dear hubby and you'll not feel guilty! lol...
we crossed posted Nap and Tropicanna...
Nap, so nice to see you with us...we REALLY did miss you!
Tropicanna...Glad kitty is on the mend...
Nap, welcome back from a newcomer. I am Jan. Came in a while ago, curled up on the couch and nobody kicked me out. I've grown roots now, so y'all are truly stuck with me.
Betty, the party story is cute. Enjoyed it. So angry (for you) with HD. What a pain that gazebo has been. Here's hoping it stays up for years (bad weather...stay away from Betty's gazebo!) and may it shade you during many happy hours. Thank you so much for the lovely ecard. Your timing was impeccable and I think it’s the most beautiful yet. The little suns were so cute and the background music was perfect. Thank you! I’m excited by gillibean’s visit…can imagine yours! Loved the drill challenged hubby story! Mine is somewhat the same but thinks he’s not. It’s a fine line to walk between encouragement and wanting to prevent more damage caused by his “fixing” things.
Shar….glad you enjoyed my “visitors”. They are technically called sphinx moths, but I think they look so much like hummingbirds and not at all like sphinx! The chair is amazing! No other word for it. Glad it’s previous owners didn’t see the value, so that you could.
Frank, How are you feeling now that you’re back to work? Debbie’s creation is one of the prettiest things I’ve ever seen! She is such a marvelous event planner, if the celeb crowd saw her magic…she would be in such demand….and you could be looking at “early” retirement. Imagine!
Laura…wonder, dear. Good for you! I am so proud of you. That took guts! And what a horrible thing to say. Outright discrimination. I just don’t understand people like that. They don’t deserve to be around a star that shines as brightly as you do.
Judy, welcome here. Betty is the most gracious hostess you could imagine. I love your user name…beautiful! Sympathies on the poison ivy. I’ve had a light touch of it on my tummy and also between my fingers for weeks now. Not badly enough to remember to keep applying the lotion though and now it’s mostly gone away on it’s own. Your recipe sounds wonderful. H (he’s the designated shopper) has been keeping me stocked up with Dole’s “fruit bars” this summer. They quench my thirst more than simple cold liquid does, at times. I’ve been addicted to them for the past two summers. Thank you for posting it here…I’ll be mixing up a batch this weekend.
Hi Liz. Free hair goodies. One of my favorites! I am very spoiled as H and I have both been employed as manufacturer’s reps, in the gift industry, off an on the past ten years or so. That means lots and lots of samples. For instance, most retailers do their buying for fourth quarter (Christmas/Hanukkah) during the first quarter of the year. So we received samples, saw customers and took orders for what you will be buying in the stores for 2007’s holidays in January, Feb and March of this year. So most “winter” samples are no longer carried with us. They are replaced with new items. We donate a lot of the “old” ones and give away many to friends. I usually sell on eBay seasonally, but haven’t gotten around to it this year. We both decided to change our agency affiliations this year and so have taken on PT work in different industries for the summer before starting back fulltime in the fall. So, my steady stream of “new-old” samples has temporarily dried up and I miss them. *Pout*
Murmur, so nice to see you. Be well, please.
Well, this has turned into a book. Sorry, guys. I had to make up for lost time.
Yesterday….
Best? The lovely grocery store employee that helped me change a flat tire yesterday and wouldn’t take any money even though I tried insisting.
Worst? The new (less than 3000 miles on the sucker) tire I ruined running up onto the curb in the parking lot of a mall. I had gone there on the way home from work because H was feeling under the weather and asked for some won ton soup from a particular restaurant there. I hit the curb trying to avoid a head on collision with an older gentleman in an older and very large car, that decided to take his half of the “road” out of the middle. I just got the car back less than a month ago after it sat in the repair shop waiting for parts and being worked on for five (!) weeks. I’d had it three months when, a block from home, another older man decided, for no apparent reason, to pull out from a stop sign and TOTAL my new car. It seems to be somewhat jinxed, after yesterday. I may decide to get rid of it, if a third “bad” thing happens anytime soon!
Learned? Little aggravations piled on top of one another can put one in a completely foul mood and make the need to “cocoon” necessary. That an hour in the garden, with my four legged loves can make it all better. That, and writing it all out and venting to good friends tends to banish the last vestiges of it, too. ;-)
Edited: So much for spellcheck!

Shar the rocking chair looks nice and comfy, I'm a rocker...lol the DH won't get me rocking outdoor chairs (the ones with the round base, not the glider type) cause I rock in them and break them to often, but I do love to sit and rock it comforts me.
Wonder good for you! Don't let them tell you that you can't do something because of your weight! Never ever let anyone make you feel less of anything because of it, because you aren't!
Frank tell the DW that the cake is wonderful, I'll have to save the picture and send it to the sister for her next shower. Such a good idea, I'd never be able to do it...lol if it takes longer than 10 minutes my ADD kicks in.
Betty I love the gazebo, I'd love to have one except our winds just get to high to often. LOL and can you see me trying to take it down for a hurricane? DH would kill me, almost did last hurricane, I took half the house with us when we left...so hard to leave anything behind.
Well Good Morning to Everyone!
Geeze, There is so much happening-I have missed chatting with you.
Please believe me though, I have been with you all each day. I have been here in spirit. Wishing you all well, enjoying your bantering about Donny Osmond, that has kept me smiling.
I have enjoyed seeing all the art work going on. and Reading all the stories.
Welcome, to all since I have been gone. 1 week- way too long.
So, I have been away to do some "Soul" searching, This has been good for me as I've come to terms with several different things. One being a major battle with alcohol. Oh, I have had this battle many times, but this one was starting to gain control of my life. This, is just not a good time for it to happen, so I went into my own little seclusion of my mind and had a very serious conversation with myself. In a way this was a good move, As I have made a long list of things that I cannot complete if the path I was treading kept going in that direction. Second, It is just time, to move on, let go and say goodbye. This being done, I realize there is never a goodbye, Bear will always be with me. But I now must move forward and continue whatever is in my future. I can and will do the best I can to make my dreams come true...As my good friend, Betty has said to me, "if one dream dies, Dream another" I've given this much thought, and you know-if my dreams die it is because I've allowed it to. I just can't do that, it's giving up and well, thats not in my nature to do. So Here I am, I am asking for help,
Please just keep my battle in your thoughts and pray, that I win myself back.
...Now asking for help the third step in the right direction. I can do this!
Thanks to Betty-for always caring and reminding me that I am NOT alone.
Thanks to all of you, for listening.
I won't leave my friends here at DG for long anymore- That wasn't the best of plans on my part. I so love chatting with all of you.
I'll be back later.
Judy
Well, better get to work here-Taking a deep breath and hitting send
Judy, my heart is with you - and you can have my support any time you need it (I am a recovering alcoholic - sober for over 12 years . . . d-mail me if you want to).
I don't know who Bear is, but assume he is your partner. That also is tough and I may have to face something like that myself. You are in my prayers!!!
You know that we are always here to listen, to offer support when possible....I have tears in my eyes, you've come such a long way Judy in such a short time..wasn't long ago you told me you found it very difficult to open up..and look at you now 'sweetie' you've given us an opportunity to be part of your dream....thank you!
Ahhh. Judy. First steps may or may not be the hardest. But, IMO, they are the most important. For where would any of us go without them? In a round about way, alcohol was responsible for leaving me a very young widow. That was a lifetime ago and many years have passed. Only speak of it so that you will know many of us have probably been touched by both loss and alcohol or drugs. Either in our own selves, or through others in our lives. I think there is much comfort, companionship, support and laughter to be found here. I hope it is so for you. I mourn your losses, applaud your amazingly brave first steps, and humbly hope you will take us along with you on this “new” and exciting path you have chosen.
Well said Tangie...there is so much living experience amongst us all so why not take advantage of our experiences! Thank you for sharing...
Judy my DH stuggles with this issue daily and is always battling with himself. I've had problems in the past with substance abuse so please dmail me if you need to, I have free long distance. ((hugs))
Inspirational Thought!
The Chicken
Once upon a time, there was a large mountainside, where an eagle’s nest rested. The eagle’s nest contained four large eagle eggs. One day an earthquake rocked the mountain causing one of the eggs to roll down the mountain, to a chicken farm, located in the valley below. The chickens knew that the must protect and care for the eagle’s egg, so an old hen volunteered to nurture and raise the large egg.
One day, the egg hatched and a beautiful eagle was born. Sadly, however, the eagle was raised to be a chicken. Soon, the eagle believed he was nothing more than a chicken. The eagle loved his home and family, but his spirit cried out for more. While playing a game on the farm one day, the eagle looked to the skies above and noticed a group of mighty eagles soaring in the skies. "Oh," the Eagle cried, "I wish I could soar like those birds."
The chickens roared with laughter, "You cannot soar with those birds. You are a chicken and chickens do not soar." The eagle continued staring, at his real family up above, dreaming that he could be with them. Each time the eagle would let his dreams be known, he was told it couldn’t be done.
That is what the eagle learned to believe. The eagle, after time, stopped dreaming and continued to live his life like a chicken. Finally, after a long life as a chicken, the eagle passed away.
The moral of the story: You become what you believe you are; so if you ever dream to become an eagle follow your dreams, not the words of a chicken.
