DG Electronic Floral Show "Getting to Know You"
TFS=thanks for sharing :)
rebooooobala.... reboooooobala....where ARE yooooou????
This is the best thread I have come across................just noticed tonight. I think we all ought to play this game....................too much fun is being had. I hope I can find the time tomorrow to do something..............
please oh please...............keep the arrangements coming. You all have made my day a bit brighter.................
gail
**mind is already churning away trying to come up with an idea.........
Gessiegail, where have YOU been?? Was looking through some old posts, and saw all your nice arrangements. And looks like we have you to thanks for getting Dave to create this forum? Can't wait to see what you have to show us!!!!
Gessiegail, good you came back! looking forward to 'getting to know you'
Yardqueen are you still going to do an arrangement for us please? LoL!
I promise I will even if it has to be weeds!!! LOL but as I said it has rained so much my flowers were not very pretty. It did not rain this weekend, but I did not go out in my yard because I was not feeling well at all. But do not give up on me. I am slow at everything I do.... I am really wanting to do this! I just wish the weather would cooperate. It is either raining or too hot. I may have to arrange steamed flowers in a skillet!
i begged for this forum................then hurt my neck and back and decided those days of cut flowers were over.................now I have decided I will go down fighting as I have to grow cut flowers again...............and soon!!!!!!!!!!!! In the meantime, I can come up with something in the yard............you all are having the best time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yardqueen, you are so funny! weeds, steamed flowers, skillet! sounds great to me,do it LoL!!
Well it won't be hard to do, when it rains and then the sun comes out and it hits 90*+!!! I have had steveral plants to be "steamed"
Tah-dah! Here is my arrangement...and it is *me*. Chock Full o' Nuts! These are arranged in a coffee can with water. Burlap isn't me so much, even though I live in Indiana. hahaha
(Terri, Chock Full o Nuts is a brand of coffee from New York City, Indiana is in the midwest where there are a lot of farms, and presumably more burlap.)
Suzy
WOW!
WOW! just thought I would make you feel at home and say WOW! again.
Lovely happppppppy flowers,Great. I have never heard of that coffee in my life, is it strong?
Thanks so much for joining in, please come back and do loads more LoL!
Catching up a bit with my admiration for these arrangements:
Kat7: That is such a lovely combination, and the story that goes with it touches the heart. How nice of you to use your flower arrangment to make somebody's birthday special!!
Reeboobala: Like everybody said: what a great choice of colors for that pitcher. I like looking through your window for a glimpse at the other beautiful flowers you have there too. :)
Suzy: LOL! I love the "Chock Full of Nuts" container, and my oh my, those flowers are just gorgeous!!
These threads are going to make each day brighter and better.........love the chock full of nuts............
Illoquin, great looking bouquet in a coffee can! That's a great floral arrangement that really tells us something about you as well as where you're from. Since burlap isn't your thing, I'm glad you didn't use it. And you have a great sense of humor!
Bdale, I love reading your responses. They're always so thoughtful and insightful!
Oooh~ Dahlias! Welcome all you incoming, put on some lightweight clothes and get out and snip something. Even 'steamed' spinach draped over the right vessel would suffice LOL.
I also love the blues/yellows in the vase Reeebola, and Suzy's stunning yellows in the coffee can are right up my alley too. Is the coffee good?
I was up at 5 stuffing everything in bloom into a large vase to take to work Sunday a.m. Everyone loved it: bright red dahlias, purple dahlias, purple buddleia, white phlox, white and lav glads, white veronica spicata and bluish/lav of same, artemesia lactiflora ghizou, rudbeckia, velvet deep red snapdragons, purple monarda, a few nice daisies, some crocosmia sprays and leaves, coreopsis as a filler. NO PHOTO, sorry; but it was 'me' all over the place. I gave it to the highly stressed gal who has been working herself silly to get us all ready to convert to electronic communication only at work. She was most grateful: mission accomplished!
Here's my still "on the hoof" arrangement of a new dahlia "Park Record" which came from Illoquin! I absolutely love this flower, Suzy!
Terri "on the hoof" is slang for meat that still walking in animal form; in this case, flowers still on the plant.
This is my "Getting to know you" arrangement: something I arranged and posted on another thread...and someone (will edit with name later!) said I should join y'all here, as it seems we all love arranging cut flowers!
The "vase" is a hunk of slate that has a hole cut in the top for the flowers, and one in the bottom (larger) to fit a plant saucer in (it's glued in). The opening part has a floral frog in it to anchor the flowers. Sorry if I'm going into detail and everyone already knows about these...I bought it at a Christmas Bazarr a few years ago and the guy who made them lives on the outskirts of Yellowstone National Park...and said the stone is the same as that in YNP...cool, huh?

Ok ya'll, I finally did it !!!! I even made two for ya'll.... Mind you, I did have to cut nearly every decent flower in my yard to do this, cause there just isn't much that was worthy of picking. The arrangements are very me... Use what I have, and make the best of it... and no fancy store bought vases, just ones that came with roses DH got froom WM! The 1st one...
Pooch: "On the hoof"! LOL. Your garden must be a cut flower lover's dream with all the beautiful Dahlias you post! I like those (what kind)? Time for a DG tour of Pooch's garden...:) (Sort of like when the first grade class take a tour of a dairy farm so they learn "milk doesn't come from the grocery store") Hahaha.
Connie, I'm so glad you posted your arrangement. Very eye catching, and that sounds like a one-of-a-kind container, ideally suited to many great arrangements. Believe me, we are interested in all the techniques and ideas you have to share in addition to whatever lovely "finished products" that you decide to post. This is a good place to learn and share about flower arranging (Personally, I'm more in the "learning" side of things at the moment so I'm always eager to hear more about the tools of the trade).
Yardqueen, you did it!!! Beautiful! Thanks for sacrificing your garden flowers for the DG Floral Show..now they are recorded here for posterity and you can look at them anytime you feel like it on the screen :). (Hopefully you will also get some more blooms to replace a few of the great ones you cut!!) The shape and color combinations in your arrangements are so pretty.
Bdale,
I do have a lot of flowers in my yard now, it is just that not many are bouquet condition, due to sun, rain, grasshoppers, etc.
Yardqueen, that last one is my favorite...stunning colors!!! I wish I had that many cutting flowers in my gardens...this made me stop and think about planting more that are suitable for cutting!!
Hurray for Yardqueen! You did well for battling rain, heat and hoppers. I love both your bouquets- the pink and blue is right up my alley, but I really like the hot colors of the 'sunshades' one too. Purdeeee!
What are the small pink star-like florets in the first arrangement?
Oh, I love this!
Connie, I love the vase! Or is it a vessel? I imagine you'll have that vase for a long, long time and the kids will fight for it in your estate.
I admire your restraint. I can't copy it for the life of me, but I admire it. That's a Protea, right? Do those grow there?
Reboobala, BDale said it all -- the color echo makes the arrangement and the and the glimpse of outside makes the photo. I love both the dahlias and hydrangeas, but Indiana isn't a good place to grow either, although we can make them work, they are never as gorgeous as the ones I see online.
YQ = Thanks for stripping. The garden, I mean. LOL!
Those are great! I am learning so much because I didn't know Canna flowers would make good cuflowers, and I certainly had no idea the seed pods were that attractive! Naturally, I love the hot colors better, but the pinks and blues were pretty, too.
BDale, You always know exactly what to say, both accurately and oh, so beautifully! I've noticed it on many, many threads. Are you/were you a preacher, by any chance? It's somewhat intimidating! :)
Suzy
I love to buy the proteas, Suzy, as they last for about 3 weeks or more!
And sometimes I do the minimalist things, and at times just can't stop adding things. I say it's the yin / yang of my personality! I'm a "dirt monkey" yet love to get all dolled up in the "girly-girly" things and go out!
Suzy,
Nope, not a preacher. (Let the entire DG congregation shout "Amen" as they heave a sigh of collective relief on that one, LOL). My lovely wife is in that line of work, as a matter of fact, but not me. I'm a professor, but really a farmer at heart. Thanks. :)
BDale
Now...let us join together in the production of more floral arrangements!
Poochella and Karma, Thanks for the explanations, it really helps me to understand the jokes!
Connie, I love your Protea, and thankyou for explaining the mechanics, that is how we can learn to do new things
we haven't tried before. I love that slate vase too, what is YNP?
Suzy, If you go back to BDales Introduction of the show (speach) joke!, he said we wanted to hear lots of
"ohhs" and "ahhs" , don't worry we do not all have BDales fantastic delivery, sometimes it's just nice to get an
"ohh" LoL!
OH MY! Terri, I am overwhelmed! (Blushes a bright red) This is such an honor! I hardly know what to say... (Pulls out notes prepared ahead for such an occasion) First I want to thank God for coming up with the idea of flowers in the 1st place, and for creating such a wide variety to choose from! I would also like to thank my dear hubby for being so patient with me when I keep coming home with "What, MORE plants?"... And for digging all those flowerbeds in the heat. I also want to thank my family and friends for their encouragement (Oooohhhs and Aaaaahhhs when they come to visit), and for taking home the excess so I will have room for more. And last but certainly not least I would like to thank all of the posters on this forum who have taught me everything I know about flower arranging... This trophy should really be yours! (bows humbly and exits)

And everyone in the audience gives a standing ovation for a beautiful speech...chanting Encore! Encore! Encore!
"WE Want More", clapping very loudly....
Ah, the price of fame!!!
(Returns for encore, bows and runs....)
You have caught me SPEECHLESS.... (a rare occurance, so enjoy...)
Come back! and tell me about those Cannas, I haven't seen those kind before they are stunning, they look a bit like ginger flowers don't you think? I would love to see your whole Canna bed
sometime please!
Oh darn, I missed the standing ovation, but surely I would have joined in! Well done, Yardqueen. Such a humble and well-prepared speech. I would have been standing up howling WHOO WHOO WHOO with a fist cranking in the air!
Terriculture, one of our dahlia posters is also from the UK and she asked, "Are you having me on?" in response to some question/answer or comment. I didn't know whether to be insulted, call the police, or Google "having me on!" I just love the variances in our common language and how the words change the meaning when used as slang. So we'll try to translate as necessary.
Now, I need to make a bouquet to welcome back our neighbor horse who has been at the vet for two solid months with a bad foot injury..... this is going to tax my limited creativity to the limit. :)
