DG Electronic Floral Show "Getting to Know You"

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

well... I just happen to have a pic of them with my family photos I carry ....LOL lets see if I can find them... ok I did, but unfortunately I don't have a picture that shows the whole bed in bloom. I have an early one with hardly any blooming and then I have some that show diffenent blooms. And I don't even have any pictures of my yellow ones becausse they just started blooming. Do you think I should not post them on this thread since they are not flower arrangements?

Poochella, "are you having me on" means are you joking or telling fibs (lies). I wouldn't bother with
the police at this stage!!

Yardqueen, you could show me in the 'flowers in the garden' thread or here, I don't think anyone
would object and if they do, well,............................

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Terri, we say "Are you putting me on"...LOL

Ok I will do it here. This one shows the bed from one end. The whole bed goes around the tree with vines growing on it. It is longer than this because it is only from one end.

How fantastic is that, you have loads! they are really expensive here about £5 -£8.00 each.
I have grown them but they never flower here in my garden, I get the lovely leaves then the weather
gets colder and the flowers don't appear. Shame, but now I can adopt yours and admire their
beauty from over the sea and far away!! Thankyou

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

ok, something is wrong because I have posted 3 or 4 times and they don't show up. and yes I am typing dialogue.

ok, I will try again.

I heard cannas will bloom the first year from seed -- is that true?

I was amazed that Butterfly Bushes bloomed the first year from seed. They bloom from seed about the same time as the ones planted in the garden, as a matter of fact!

Suzy

Sounds like your season isn't long enough. Have you ever tried wintering them over in the greenhouse?

Thumbnail by yardqueen1948
Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Illoquin,

I don't know about seed. I have some but have never tried it yet.

Terri,

I got all my cannas except for the 'Tropicana' in trades. I bought 3 or 4 'Tropicana' from a local "nursery" on sale. I think I paid about $6 or something like that. I think they are about $20 ea at HD or lowe's

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Terri,

How much is ... wow I don't have a symbol for pounds.. anyway, 5-8 pounds

london England, United Kingdom

I don't know, how much is 6 dollars? I don't have a dollar sign. LoL!!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

hmmm.... well I don't know the rate for changing Pounds to Dollars. I don't even know it for Pesos to Dollars and I am closer to Mexico than England! LOL

london England, United Kingdom

Well, I know Karma has one of those converters because she told me how much my allotment
cost in dollars. £18 was 37 dollars! I'm rubbish at maths LoL!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

So I guess Cannas would be 10 to 16 dollars.... I never priced any but the Tropicana and it is supposed to be a more expensive one. As I saidf they sell for $20 or more which would be 10 pounds minimum for one.

london England, United Kingdom

Unfortunately I don't have a £ tree growing in the garden! I will admire yours every summer from
now on ! Have you seen the 'bloom of the day' it's your lovely Canna!

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

I love your cannas Yardqueen. The yellow and orange is just heartstopping.

Currency converter below ~1:2 for $ to UK pounds. Not that I'll be able to remember that. I would like a tree that grew dollars, pounds, pesos, or gold nuggets, but leaves aren't a bad substitute.

Here's my welcome back horse bouquet LOL. Bet none of you have made one of those! He's my super pooper neighbor horse and graciously supplies the compost with manure.

Customized for the horse's taste... with alfalfa and accenting bailing twine :)

Pooch, I've heard of a "bridal bouquet" but never a "bridle bouquet"...

That's too clever by half, with the feed bucket and everything. I hope he has enough "horse sense" to appreciate the beautiful flowers you put into the arrangement!! (More of your flowers "on the hoof" no doubt?)

london England, United Kingdom

"Brilliant" one very lucky horse!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

OMG, Pooch, you are too clever for half! I hope Luther appreciates it. Uh, wouldn't Luther EAT it? LOL!

As an aside, we have a Dutch door on the back and my husband can do a dead-ringer of an impersonation of Mr. Ed. He can also sing the theme song. LOL! Hanging over the side of the Dutch door, all I can think of is, "Hel-lo, Lu-thurrrr". (as opposed to, "Hel-lo Wil-burrrr!")

Suzy

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

I had an old purple goat bridle that I was going to string on the vase, but no time last night. I emailed the owner this a.m. and left their bouquet on a bench to pick up at their leisure. It is still there and must have been wafting alfalfa smells on the breeze as Luther was waiting right by the fence for me (or the hay) when I got home today.

Bdale you've got quite a clever way with words!

Suzy, I loved that show "Mr. Ed". A horse is a horse, of course, of course..... Luther had a terrible stab wound to a hoof. Being a giant horse on 3 limbs is not easy, but they got through his treatment and rehab in 2 months. Ouch! He deserves flowers at least... and his owner a tree that grows gold nuggets.

Warren, PA(Zone 5a)

Suzy: LOL on the "Mr Ed" stuff.

Pooch: I'm sure it was you, not just the hay, that was the attraction. You've got another friend for life now! :)

london England, United Kingdom

We used to have 'Mr Ed ' here years ago! I loved it!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Ah, Terri, That's good because I had been thinking about how to explain all that to you and I just gave up :)

Suzy

london England, United Kingdom

and the beverley hillbilies, that was funny! there's a man named jake.......ha ha!

london England, United Kingdom

I forgot to tell you that my football team Won today! and that is ....LIVERPOOL, of course!
and thanks to our new American owners for buying a few new players, they have only spent about
£50 million.!!

Oh yum...I don't know much about sports, but I do love cupcakes. Terri, they are all the rage here in the US. Some little bakeries just sell cupcakes! I love them with as much frosting (do you say icing?) as cake. Now you've made me crave some!

london England, United Kingdom

They were Yummy, connie!.

I actually made this bouquet for church last Sunday, but it seems suitable as a 'get to know me' bouquet. It's flowers from my garden - "cut and come again" zinnias, echinacea, Queen Anne's Lace and pachysandra. I like simple and natural (the basket) and seasonal. We've had lots of rain in New Jersey and my garden is very happy this year. I need to expand my cutting garden, or plant more densely, because I'm always hesitant to cut flowers - and I hate to cut off buds that will never get a chance to bloom. I've got to get over that, though, if I'm going to have lush bouquets.

Oh, that's so pretty -=- Maybe I could do somehting like that if I got some dust off my baskets and bought some of that green soaking foam stuff. :)

Suzy

Brookside, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah. Floral foam is the only way I can manage a bouquet in a basket. I always keep a couple of 'bricks' on hand. A friend makes lovely little bouquets using floral foam in coffee cups.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Beautiful basket of flowers!! Love it!

Hubbard, OH

I especially love the basket of pink zinnias and QAL; this prompted me to make my first forum response. I want to know how you keep those zinnias from flopping. With the hollow stems, mine always flop!

I love all these pictures of arrangements and am getting great ideas but I'm a little short of all of your talents! My experience in flower arranging is to plop whatever I cut into the closest vase. However I can see I can learn a thing or two here. Thanks for a great resource.

Hubbard, OH

Oops, I forgot to say how wonderful all those arrangements from the UK are! WOW!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sookey...welcome to the fun world of on-line chatting/posting about gardening, etc!!!

Brookside, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sookey,
My zinnias don't usually flop, though one big headed yellow one just did. I wrapped cellophane tape around the bend in the stem. One can't, of course, do that for every flower. I wonder if your zinnia blooms are bigger than mine.

Warren, PA(Zone 5a)

Cellophane tape (or green floral tape) sounds like a good idea on those weaker stems. I've noticed among out zinnias that the smaller (maybe less mature?) zinnias are more likely to droop, as the stem seems to strengthen along with the size of the bloom. The bigger, stronger stems seem to hold on forever, well after the bloom has lost its luster. I'd say 1 out of 10 blooms droop on ours, and that's better odds than you'll get in Las Vegas! :)

london England, United Kingdom

Suzy, have you dusted you basket's yet?!!

WELCOME! Sookey and Thankyou. We love any arrangements here, so plop your flowers into a vase and show us
Please!

Adding a 'leg' either with stub wire or firmer stems will keep them up!
