DG Electronic Floral Show "Getting to Know You"

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

The one I want to use is not exactly like the cannas you normally see. I want to use it as an accent as it is not full and large.... If I use it you will see what I mean.... Oh here...I can post a pic of it in the canna bed. I really don't kniow if there will be any blooms of this one open tomorrow or not

It's a pity you can't venture out tonight! What time is it where you live? If you cut it and put it in a warm room I recon
It would be open tomorrow. Oh we are getting carried away. LoL!!!

Anyway, if that one isn't ready it will be in a few days and that will be something to look forward to.

btw, you are welcome to join us in the flowerpot cafe' to discuss ideas anytime. (hint hint)

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

It is almost 10 PM and I would get carried off by mosquitos. We had a lot of rain earlier this month and Texas mosquitos are big anyway...LOL

I have not seen the flowerpot cafe`

london England, United Kingdom

Check it out, we need friends like you that are overwhelmed with ideas and combinations. LoL!!

Yardqueen, I can't wait to see what you do with the cannas. I didn't have the heart to cut the canna flowers, but the leaves were a whole different story. I hope to see it before I head out for vacation. Terri, your persistence paid off....you're a good recruiter!

Warren, PA(Zone 5a)

Just to keep the fun going, a new thread has been established with the theme of "Tea Time" http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/753809/

Please continue posting "Getting to Know You" arrangements here, and hop over to the new thread if that theme inspires you. Thanks.

Warren, PA(Zone 5a)

Yet another theme (as far as I know, that's it for now) is "Summer Holiday" since some of our most active floral arrangers are getting away for a little rest and relaxation. Perhaps they will return to find some new arrangements awaiting them? http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/753811/

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh ya'll!!! I am so sorry and disappointed. It rained again and spoiled a lot of the flowers and even the zinnias aren't fit to put in a vase! I did a lot of deadheading. I am going to go out tomorrow and see if there is anything I can scrape together. On the bright side I did find a couple of the canna blooms I want to use and also a surprise Unflower that I want to use. What do you call stuff that isn't the greenery or flowers but is just an interesting or odd thing that you want to use in a bouquet? Well whatever you call it I have several of them. LOL Now if I just had some flowers that weren't mushy!!!

yardqueen, I'm just as disapointed as you.! .but never mind, there's nothing we can do about the rain. It sounds like you have other accessories, I like to see 'odd' stuff and if you have several of them thats even better.

Please make something ,we haven't had anything new to look at for days now and when you're a flower junkie it's hard believe me.

I might do 1 more if nothing happens soon. so be warned LoL!!

I don't want to let ya'll down, so I will try. As I said it is a matter of finding anything fit to cut.... Rain does tend to spoil some flowers. I did see a few things to use, but not all of them would work together. I may have to do 2 or 3 small ones, because of the colors. We will see.

Warren, PA(Zone 5a)

yardqueen, I know what you mean. We had a pounding rain storm on Friday night. We needed the rain, for sure, but a few of our flowers are a bit worse for the wear. Some flowers can survive a good rainstorm better than others.

london England, United Kingdom

It would be very nice to see any arrangement, anytime !

london England, United Kingdom

It's not cheating, LoL!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, I know but it is really more fun to me to use my own... That is it would be if I had any LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Holy Cow! Where did this forum come from?

I cannot believe how great these arrangements look! I am definitely putting this on my favorote forum list and taking notes!!

Suzy

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

Since I'm taking Thursday and Friday this week off as vacation days I did up Friday's vase for supervisor's Mom last night.

The vase (tall white glazed ceramic vase, with raised up-side-down teardrop knobs, with the knobs painted yellow, orange, red, blue or green)

contains a couple stems each of sedum (Autum Joy, in bud, not blooming) yellow loostrife (dark bronze folliage with small bright yelow blooms) 5 large purple coneflowers, 3 liatrus (gay feather) and 3 cream lillies.

The whole thing stands 18" tall.......

sorry no pic....

london England, United Kingdom

That sounds beautiful drivenbonkers, I would love to see your coneflowers and liatrus.

Welcome IIIquin, glad you enjoyed the flower show, tell your friends!! and feel free to join in.

Thanks, Terri,

I am going to do this, really, I am, it's just that I have a hard time cutting the flowers from the garden and even more trouble buying them at the grocery when I have a garden full LOL! A Catch-22.

I also have absolutely zero talent, so an arrangement to me is stuffing them in a jar or pitcher. I am hoping to pick up some pointers.

Suzy

london England, United Kingdom

'Stuffed in a jar or pitcher' sounds ok to me, anything would be nice!
BDale is still waiting at the door, I think.

Bloomingdale, NJ(Zone 6a)

OK- this was just a quick little something I put together. Found out last minute that it was my neighbor's birthday, so I cut whatever was in bloom and put together a little arrangement. Turns out she didn't get any presents at all from her husband (money's been a little tight) so she was so happy to get some flowers!

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

It's wonderful!! :)

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll bet she was happy!!! The arrangement is beautiful and it was so sweet to do that for her!

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

I agree: a beautiful gesture that I'm sure tickled her pink as the lily. And what is that lovely mauve coneflower we see from the side: rear right? A great color on that one, but the whole bouquet is cheerful to no end.

Suzy: I like your 'stuffing in a jar or pitcher' style. Lately I'm just plain too TIRED to cut any flowers and they're out there waiting. I'm just satisfied to think about cutting them and pondering what wonderful bouquets I could make. How sad is that?

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi kat, your bouquet is very lovely. Your neighbor must have adored it! I'm new to gardening so I hope you don't mind me asking what are the purple flowers to the left....and are they the same flowers as the one that's light pink and white that's peeking through?

Bloomingdale, NJ(Zone 6a)

In my arrangement are- echinacea purpurea(purple coneflower),several differnt rudbeckias(black eyed susan), white and purple phlox, star gazer lily , and tansy!

This message was edited Aug 3, 2007 9:21 AM

Warren, PA(Zone 5a)

Beautiful selection of flowers. I really like it (and with those Star Gazers in there it must smell wonderful too). Ours are in full bloom right now, about to disappear for another year.

Dave's Garden needs to develop that "smell-o-vision" technology they always promised us was in the works when we were kids!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

No Kidding BDale, That's exactly what I thought when I saw it -- and the Phlox! I love the scent of Phlox!

I have a lot of gigantic Cherokee Sunset Rudbeckias -- bright gold with that brown-black central cone. What would be an attractive vase for it? I have a lot of white ironstone-style pitchers, but they don't "do it" for this particular flower.

Any ideas?

Suzy

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Suzy, we were just discussing burlap yesterday, and I was thinking it may look nice to wrap the burlap around a container or vase with raffia and put your rudbeckias in it? I was thinking sort of a fall arrangement. Your pitchers sound nice.

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

With burlap, the good old bushel basket comes to mind. I don't know what they're made from, a bark-like material, but would look so rustic full of sunflowers. Suzy, I should lend you my muted gold utensil holder from the kitchen for your suns! Or this red pitcher from Mexico. Too bad I don't grow sunflowers.

Kat, I was asking the other day (in the suggestion box) if anyone had black eyed susan, it was the 'bloom of the day' I am so happy to see it thankyou. Another favourite of mine is the
coneflower, did you grow it from seed? I am going to try it next year.

Thankyou for joining in our flower show and showing us your beautiful, vibrant flowers.
and the ribbon is a perfect accessory. Brilliant!

london England, United Kingdom

Suzy, I would use huge wicker Ali Baba laundry basket !

Poochella, I don't know what a 'bushel basket' looks like, but I do love you mexican vase!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Terri, what's an Ali Baba?

london England, United Kingdom

I haven't got one to show you sorry. maybe someone else has a picture?

I hope yardqueen is ok?

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Terri! I am ok... Just got on here about 30 min ago... went to Grandson's BD party. He is 5. LOL He is all into Transformers!

I have not done an arrangment yet! It rained a few more times since we talked about it. I will try but last time I looked I didn't find much I wanted to use. The rain and heat is playing havoc with them. I will try again tomorrow. I have been a little under the weather so I haven't felt like doing much. Oh my! that saying "under the weather" strikes me as funny now as my plants are "under the weather" also! LOL

Inverness, CA(Zone 10a)

Hello I'm new to the site - but would like to jump in with an arrangement.
I'm in NorCal - out near the ocean - in Zone 9.
Everything is blooming away here!
I'm LOVING it!

Here's some dahlias &hydrangesa that cut this morning.

Love the color combination and a perfect vase for it! Did you pick the vase for the flowers or the flowers for the vase? LOL

london England, United Kingdom

Wonderful, thankyou for sharing your beautiful flowers and fantastic vase. Love the colour
combinations,blue&orange.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Very nice, reboobala. I too love the color combination. I like the pink snaps and orangy alstros with the orange/pink dahlias. The pitcher is a perfect complement to your arrangements. TFS!
