Reds and pinks part II

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I think I have saved geraniums, but don't know that it is worth it . I believe, they can be saved dry in a bag, which helps. A few yrs ago I was seeing geraniums with wild orange and green variegated leaves, but not lately, now that I want one... I am not very lucky with my dragin wing begonia. Maybe I should pot up some small cuttings soon for the winter? I plan to save pieces of lantana, I discovered it roots easily.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

My mom has overwintered potted geraniums in the basement, semi-dormant. She gives them a little bit of water every month or so, and they get a little sun through the window, but they look pretty bad by spring. However, once they're back out in the sun and getting watered daily, they just burst forth with new growth and blooms!

Dragon wing begonia cuttings root easily in water... I have a couple of different ones in indoor pots. I'm glad to hear the lantana roots easily -- maybe I'll put a couple of cuttings in with my begonias, LOL.

I am like Sally and love the looks of the varigated leaf geranium. I did keep mine over winter last year, but kept them as a house plant. I had small blooms almost all winter. Since I sat them outside this summer the large pedestal pot they are in has been turned over at least twice and maybe three times by my son and his teenage friends. I finally moved it last week to another spot, so that shouldn't be happeneing any more.

Sally, the canna lily has four big scarlet red blooms on it and is absolutely beautiful. I am so glad that I was able to get it from you at the swap. It has been a wonderful addition to my garden. Thank you.

sure you didn't misspell, and mean to say "rot easily in water" ha ha at least for me!

ruby- I hear you--It is so frustrating that I often have to decorate around the wants/needs/whims of others in the house. Maybe I'm not enough of a nag.....At least its not like my sister inlaw who has motorcycle engine parts on the dining room table..
You're so gracious to again praise my litlle ol' canna. I got it years ago from a very interesting woman friend at the time. I hope she's doing well.

Gurney seeds were a total failure for me one year. Won't try them again.

Rose of Sharon - I got these as two sticks a couple of years ago - they are now taller than the fence and blooming profusely - was bothered with aphids until I gave them a good dose of systemic BATS and no problems since :)

bec, is that porcelain berry vine in the background of your MG pic? if yes, do you like it or is it invasive?...I have a baby to plant on my porch and the write ups about it on DG were 50/50 for and against it so I still have it in a pot unplanted. Not sure what to do with it!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

ah the only thing in those pots are MG as far as I know :-)

I had picked up a dustpan that was propped near my deck steps. There was some debris stuck on the bottom and I spotted egg-sac looking things and then the spider. If this doesn't make me wear garden gloves, nothing will.
(Nothing will !)
She will be euthanized, if not already dead from that day in a plastic container.

Now the cats don't freak me out like that spider does! I'm currently raising luna moth and monarch butterfly cats.
What kind of caterpillar is that anyway, Chantell?

TAUM SAUK Dahlia
Just went out and picked this, a few others, some tomatoes and a really big whopper zucchini!!! Considering we didn't split any tubers last year, I was surprised to find this practically regular size 8"

very nice with the fence background ~ has a cottage garden look. Yours seem alot happier than ours were this yr., I'm thinking the drought. Even though I watered, they stayed short; which looked strange because the blooms are so large.

are cardinals rare there? My friend said she doesn't have them in Seattle (I think, or in N CA where she lived before) but pretty common here.

Double pink hibiscus.
A moment of silence, please. I lost this plant in the Big Freeze of 2006-7.

ouch. that is gorgeous.

oxialis or something. Apparently its invasive and not desirable in the Sonoran Desert....
Cardinals are pretty common at a little higher elevation than my home. I think I'm about 900 ft above sea level. Cave Creek AZ is about 1400 + I think... they're more common up there (only a 20 minute drive)
