Reds and pinks part II

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Not trying to hijack Chris' thread but the other one is taking a long time to load highspeed so must be at a crawl for those of you with dialup. Please check the old thread because there are new pictures there too.

Anyway, I went nuts taking pictures today. This is Phlox Bright Eyes, one of the perennials at the Weber sale I got for a couple of bucks.

A calla lily that started blooming today. I forget the name.

One of my very favorite daylilies, Dragon King. Gorgeous blooms and it blooms for weeks and weeks and weeks.

Pink evening primroses. Some of you got some of these at the swap. Not the best picture because they were swaying in the breeze but thought you'd like to see the flowers. They will rebloom if you shear them after the early bloom.

Another one that was swaying in the wind. Daylily Double Pompom. These also give lots of blooms for a long time.

The knautia, which bloomed several weeks ago, is peeking out with some reblooms among the blackeyed susans.

This is the tropical hibiscus that Susan gave me at the swap. A stunner, huh?

This is a picture from a couple of years ago, an unnamed pink brugmansia that hasn't bloomed since.

Phlox Robert Poore. Love the color.

Not done yet. I told you I went nuts. LOL Daylily Stoplight. Got this one at Miss Becky's $1 sale last year. I hope it spreads.

I think this one is Strawberry Candy, also from the Miss Becky sale.

Diane, no problem with you moving the thread, I didn't realize how long it has become, enjoying the pictures to much ; )

I have Robert Poore too, you beat me to the posting. But I'll show it off anyways.

Here is a daylily, lost the name : ( I am really not fond of red daylilies some of the petals get white spots on them, I don't know if rain has something to do with that. But this one is looking good this year, but we have not had much rain.

Note the white spot on the lower petal.

Special Alert - Special Alert - Special Alert!!! This is not the place that this needs to go later on, but......I see three or four plants that I want to do swaps with please. First on my list is Hart's Heuchara Dolce Mocha Mint. Some beautiful stuff there. Second request will be from Hart also. I would like to have a bit of the Sedum Vera Jameson. I love all sedums.

My other request is for swapping something with both Susan51 and Ladygardener1. I will take anything that they choose for me. I trust their judgement. Ha -ha, does anyone smell a greedy rat? I hope you don't think that of me.
I am making notes so I won't forget when the time comes.

Oh yeah Hart, what was the name of the gorgeous purple plant that you were giving folks? Mine died and I would love to have some more.

So, see what these pictures are doing to me. They are making me want one of everything. ha-ha

Okay, you folks have a good day.

Saved Hydrangea,
Picked this little beauty up down in N.C. a couple of years ago and brought it home. It died back to the grown every year and didn't bloom. I was afraid that it was a bloom on hard wood type and was thinking about bringing it along to Harts plant swap for someone in a warmer Zone. Then decided to give it one more year. Sure am glad I didn't dig it up, guess I'll be keeping it.

Ruby, I think it will be at least a couple of years before the heuchera is big enough to divide at all. I planted it last year and it still only has a base about 3 inches across. The sedum I just bought but I can bring you a couple of cuttings. I have plenty of the clustered bellflower - the purple flowered plant.

I would urge you to hit the Weber sale next June. Both the heuchera and sedum came from there. The quart plants are only $2.50, the gallons $5 and the huge plants around $10-$15.

A couple more photos today. This the hardy Hibiscus Fireball I got at the Weber sale. Two of these huge, gorgeous blooms on it today.

Holly, I meant to say that's a beautiful hydrangea and I'm so glad it came back for you.

Waterlilies blooming today.

Ruby, look what I found! Read they fine print at the bottom - this place is wholesale only except for twice a year sales in the spring and the fall. And they have the Dolce Mocha Mint. And they aren't far from you at all.

http://www.saundersbrothers.com/Catalog/Complete2.htm

"Even though we are predominantly a WHOLESALE NURSERY, we do offer two RETAIL SALES DAYS in the spring and one in the fall .

For 2007 - Saturdays, April 14, May 12 & September 8. 8 am to noon. Cash & Checks Accepted. For other times of the year, please patronize our wholesale customers' garden centers. Thank you."

I'd say it's worth going even if you're not looking for the heuchera. What a great list of plants. Look at all those phlox and asters and coneflowers, and more heucheras than you can shake a stick at.

A pretty, little noid lily. Paid a quarter for her from the grower because she'd lost her tag.

One more noid lily. This one is blooming even though the sedum ate it.

A clump of volunteer cleome growing out of a rock wall. Gotta love an easy keeper! I know they're considered common and even invasive by some, but they're so easy to pull or move and so, so easy, I really like them alot.

I won't complain about your cleome. I had a row of it last year. Kept on going all summer. Yours looks great.

Diane , That waterlily is really beautiful ! I knew I should have made my watergarden bigger and deeper.

Ok Ruby ! which one of my plants are you coveting now ? Do you have a Peony call Festive Maxima, we might be able to work out a deal. LOL

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

gosh I just made a trade of our plastic pond for a concrete table and benches and now I see those water lilies!!!!!!!! sniff ...I didn't think I could deal with a pond ~

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Chris, you don't need a real big pond to have water lilies. You can get miniatures or you can just keep chopping them back every spring. If you want to do that, don't even plant them just toss the roots in the water. Don't do this if you have koi - they will destroy the plants. In fact, I was never able to even grow them in pots with the koi around. They dug into the pots, dug out the plants and then destroyed them.

I have mine in pots that I lowered into the pond and I don't know what I'm going to do when they need to be divided. I don't think I could get out of the pond once I managed to get down into it. LOL

You can also grow the miniatures in largish pots of water on the patio or deck. Just make sure you throw in a goldfish or two or use mosquito dunks in it.

Diane, I do have some waterlilies, Texas Dawn is one of my favorites, it sent out a lot of blooms this summer so far. My problem is I am running out of room. I have native fish from a farmers pond. So I need to leave room for them.

I have lifted out some of my pots and took my garden knife to them to thin them out. It is getting to be a chore but well worth it. I enjoy the watergarden a lot. Very relaxing to spend a lazy afternoon or evening with a refreshing drink and a frog concert.

Chris

Crozet, VA

Oh Chris - I just love those frog concerts/ ha-ha Okay Chris, no to having the peony you mentioned. So, you will have to let me know what you would like for me to have for you.
Hart, I couldn't open the link to saunderbros. The Weber sale is in Harrisonburg? Please let me know when the next one is.

I just need something in my garden from each of you so that I can be reminded of you as I enjoy the garden.

I received a box full of Iris today from a person in PA. I asked a question a while back on the Iris Forum and this particular person has sent me a $20 book and this surprise today. I have never met a more giving bunch of people in all my (many) years. I just love it.

Chris, I put on the earrings that you sent a while back earlier today as I was going through my jewelry. Thank you once again for thinking of me when you purchased these.

Well, it is Friday now. I hope that everyone has an exciting weekend planned. I think that John is going to take (drag) me to a Day Lily Festival. Nah, I am sure that I will enjoy it once I get there. I will try to leave my pocket book at home in case I am tempted to buy too much. ha0ha

Have a Good Friday.

Ruby
