New pop ups for thumnails?

Phoenix, AZ

Well, this is weird. The click-on-picture doesn't work at all on the desktop, just the laptop. Clicking on the post number works fine. Go figure.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Dave, can everyone see the member profile or just subscribers?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm on dial-up too and I haven't had any trouble with the new thumbnail feature - well, except that it still takes just as long to view. I know it's just a fact of life with dial-up, Dave, so don't take any offense at that. One of these days, faster options will be available out here in the sticks!!

BTW, I love the 'name' feature and the 'post#' feature, too!

Thanks so much for continuing to make Dave's Garden a happening place!!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

What I don't like is that when you click on "back" after you have opened a picture, it takes you completely OUT OF THE POST!!! If you "x" the screen out, it takes you out of Daves Garden.

Before, if someone had posted multiple pictures in multiple Posts, you could open one--look at it--then click "back" and it took you back to the Post so you could look at he next picture, etc. I really do not want to have to re-navigate the steps to get back to the Post I was reading.

Anyone else having this problem? I don't see it as a huge improvement...The black background looks cool, but I want to be able to see all the pictures someone has posted in an easier way.

Gita

Edited to say that I am a bit rash at my complaining.....I never noticed that the picture screen had an "x" to close it and get right back to the Post.
Sorry! Jumping to conclusions here.......

I think you can also click on the large picture itself to close the window.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You can. Dave, what about the min size we should use? And will the delay improve?

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Dave, you are a wonder. I was a bit fluxomed by the "grey-out" of the pic and came looking for the explanation. I love all the features you've implemented.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Not sure why but I can access the name or the post # but when I click on a photo I get a small black square. It never goes any further and have yet to be able to enlarge a photo tonight. Any ideas?

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Love the new stuff. :)

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

I especially love being able to click on the user name and getting a picture of their locale, etc. When I'm wondering about someone I always end up going out there to memberlist, etc, etc. This is way cool Dave.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks dave! I will find a picture posted somewhere and practice on it.

Gita

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I DO like the member info pop up. I figured I should post that I actually like something.

Right Dave??? LOL

Also like the work around of clicking on the post #.

Do NOT like the dark screen but with the post # thing, I am happy again.

Susan
=^..^=

I'll look into the slowness issue; I might be able to speed it up a bit.

I always recommend that when you post a picture, you make it about 800 pixels wide (the height isn't important)

dave

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Dave. I just did notice a height problem though. Where a 'tall' photo was posted - one that extends more than the screen and requires using the mouse thumbwheel to scroll - the photo breaks into two and there is an additional delay before you are able to scroll down or up. Doesn't do this when you click on the post number.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm with 9kittymom.

Not liking the dark screen for larger pics, but as long as the post# works as it does I'm happy too. And I agree that the member info is a pretty neat feature.

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

I like both new features. Very cool!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I don't get this :dark screen" thing....are you all saying that when you click on a pic, it fills in a dark border? I just get the Dave's Garden thread I'm on in the background.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

MaryMcP, when you click on a picture doesn't it have a kinda see-through dark border? Yes, you still see the thread in the background.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Haven't been around much today; so I've just now experienced the change in the pics and I don't like it very much as it seems to take a lot longer for the picture to enlarge. I've found that if I use Firefox, I can look at pictures and don't lose the thread I'm writing anyway.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think it actually takes the same amount of time to load the pictures, it just might feel longer because you're staying on the same page and watching the little bar. If you think about how long it took the old way to change to the new page and then load the picture, I think the new way is at least as fast if not maybe a little faster because it doesn't have to load all the rest of the background stuff that usually shows up on the page.

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

I love the new feature when you click on someones name! That is way cool.... I am always surprised and very appreciative of all of the hard work you and everyone else does to make this site so special.

Northern Piedmont, NC(Zone 7b)

I like the member pop-up when I click on a user name, but does that mean that we will no longer be able to hover the curser over the name to see registration date? I too will miss seeing the post along side the picture.

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Dave that is amazing!! I can't believe you are just "playing around"! Blows my mind. When I clicked the first thumbnail tonight I was like....oh crap Dave's gave me a virus!! But I really do like it now that I know my computer isn't crashing :)

I can not believe how far you've come in this site's design and features in the 4 years I've been here. Absolutely amazing.

(Zone 7b)

I'm not complaining per se, just providing my observations and input. ;o)

Thumbnails:
When enlarging a thumb, I find the the grayed out screen in the background to be a bit distracting for some reason. Also, really liked the recently added feature that included the message text along with the enlarged thumb (I'd miss it).

In addition, as was pointed out by someone else, closing the window involves a mouse click, unless one wants to be sent back to the thread listing for a particular forum. Before, I could just hit the backspace key and stay in the post. Seems like a small thing, but when flipping though several posts, (IME) having something like that as a keyboard function makes it faster and more efficient.

Member page:
Again, my personal preference -- When I click on a name, I would generally rather just see the whole member page, so having to click again to see that slows me down.

I'm getting lots of time out messages. I think others might be too, because there were lots of duplicate images uploaded today.

Beaumont, TX

I accidentally clicked on the enlarged image (not on the X )and the page automatically went right back to the thread. The page was too wide for me to see the close X on the image. But a couple time I'd forget click the Back arrow on my browser and close the entire thread taking me back to that forum index page... I'll get used to it. I like it.

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

I can also just click on the thread in the background and the picture goes away.

I'm not getting the darkened background screen like other folks are, my thread stays white in the background, maybe a difference in browsers? I'm using IE.

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Love it! And the name click too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought I was having difficulties as well...nice going...great added feature...

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

I still really like the new photo feature and I think the member popup is terrific too. How on earth do you keep coming up with all these great ideas?

Burlingame, CA(Zone 9a)

Dave, this is the best of all the recent enhancements! I am fortunate enough to have a huge Apple display for my computer screen and the new pop-ups ROCK .

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I still don't like the regular pop-up and it IS slower. But clicking on the message number works well and I can live with that. I DO like the pop-up with a summary of the member information.

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 4b)

Why do I have to click on the black screen to get the picture? I am glad it isn't my computer giving me trouble . I was worried there. I had downloaded a upgrade just before I got the black screen.

Las Cruces, NM(Zone 8a)

Hmmm, my two cents is, it's definately slower for the image to pop up on my computer. Also I'll probably be clicking on the post number if this change is permanent, because I really did think having the text by the photo was an improvement!

I also liked one click to get to the entire member page, instead of two clicks. I really do appreciate the constant work that goes on here to improve things, but I'm afraid I'd vote for going back to how it was!

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

I like it better when the thread was blacked out. It really made the photos pop.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Dave, can we have these new pop up javascripts as something we choose to have or not have in our preferences? Although it is nifty, I don't care for them as I prefer to open photos that are in threads in tabs (for those using Firefox) and though the option to click on the post # in a new tab is close, I prefer the text to the right, not on top of the photo. Thanks for considering it.

I moved the text to the right when you click on the Post #.

dave

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

you are a rock star!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

More than that you are brilliant. I liked the new way with the large picture and no text.....there were other ideas........YOU MADE THEM BOTH WORK! Very, very good when you can make both sides happy at the same time.

A *star* on the top of your paper.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Here's some info, fwiw - I'm on a different computer today at work and it uses Mozilla Firefox as the browser.........now I understand about the 'slow loading' and black background. Much different than in IE. Like I said, fwiw....maybe nada. ;-)
