it is so funny to look at your first couple of posts on this thread and then see what you have now.

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

I know it - amazing at how much they've grown! Whew - I'm in love. These and hibiscus! Now I'm on the hunt for a nice 10 acre lot, right?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I was looking at that, too. It's like glamor shots or something! She's a great little brug momma (just needed to get them on the right "formula") Cute little hibiscus, too Amanda... here's the last bloom flush for Maya.... I picked of the spent ones, and stopped counting after 100 blooms.... It's lasted for about 5 days, and I didn't groom her night before last, or last night, so she's looking like she doesn't have a momma right now. (no pics of that!)

I wanted to show you this pic I captured night before last. The sphinx moths have been visiting nightly for over a month, now. They love the brugs, hibiscus and moonvine flowers... there are yellowish ones, too. (I like the pink ones)

Wow! That is really spectacular! I can't believe how many blooms you have!!! And I'm over here oowing and ahhing over the 5 blooms I have on Cupid's Blush!!!

I didn't know if it was ok to pick the spent blooms, so I've been leaving them to fall off. Someone told me that's where the seeds come in. (But I haven't gotten any of those either.) Help, please!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh my goodness, how NICE!! 100 blooms? WOW!!

Sumner, WA(Zone 8a)

AuntB,
That is a beautiful flush!! I love the way the plant is growing---I will put Maya on my wish list!
AmandaT,
I have been following this very interesting thread since your first plaintive cry! Your brugs are now gorgeous!! These plants are so amazing!! I am loving all of this!

I will soon be taking cuttings from many of my "Pinks" if anyone would like some just let me know. If you live close enough You could have entire plants. I need to thin out and have too many pink varieties. I am looking for Orange, yellow and peach for next year. Most of what I have are named varieties and have performed well. (I have composted most of the ones that do not perform!) None of these are doubles--just singles. I have not had any problems with pests on these for over a year (knock on wood!) so they are extremely healthy!

do you know which pink you have? I am looking for Mountain Magic or any other deep pink. I could only take cuttings but have Solid Gold which is really orange.

Sadnees here - we had a bad storm last night and my plants got tossed over and half of the blooms fell off. Very sad for me as I have never seen 8 blooms open at the same time on one of my very own plants!

These are the ones that were torn off!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

ouch! im so sorry to hear that!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

What a waste of gorgeous blooms, huh?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

My camera is behaving very oddly, so I don't know how this shot came out. It's supposed to be the remaining blooms - ON the plant!

And my first ever Hibiscus bud. I can hardly wait to see it unfold. God-willing it will happen before I leave for my camping trip!!!

And here they are this evenng - and smelling quite intoxicating. I hate that my friends never get to smell the awesome scent of them. Most of them have never seen brugs and think they are gorgeous by day! Just imagine how addicted they'd become if they cruised the plants by night!!!

Mistressgardnr,
I would love to have a pink or two. What pinks do you have? I would love Mountain Magic and any others.
I will have Charles Grimaldi cuttings that I can offer. Right now I only have the CG and a real nice white---- I'm just getting started!

Hi all! So sorry about the storm damage. That is so frustrating. It's a pretty brug and the yellow reminds me of of lemon chiffon cake, Gorgeous! Amanda, that was a pic after I picked off 100 blooms. I stopped counting after 400. The flush about finished now, but I have 4 other plants putting out buds, but not as many as Maya had weighing her down...hope the weather stays nice. This is what we wait for all summer the BLOOMS! Glad your seeing progress, Dangitgirl...can't wait to see more pics!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hi Daisy, how long have you had the CG? How did you find his growth habit? I've had two I rooted last winter that are still in 6 inch pots... I've been a good mom to em but they seem stunted or something.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I posted this picture on another thread but thought it would be appropriate here. It is a one-year old Solid Gold. It reacted well to pellitized chicken manure.

That is precious! Tell us more about this pellitized chicken poo... My grandma used chicken manure in her garden, it was so nice. . .

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, your solid gold is fabulous!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Sequee, I've drooled over 2 or 3 blooms even, many times, and will again, I'm sure. I have a baby Alex that is barely 3 ft tall and has Y'd and I almost want to get a magnifying glass to hunt for buds. It'll be it's first blooms for me and the cold weather may hamper his progress... I'm installing more lights in the basement and hope it is enough to get him to bloom, if not I'll have it to look forward to next spring!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

i used to live near a chicken farm when i lived in Lexington, SC, near Columbia. when we passed it and the wind blew just right, well..... ill just say i wont forget the smell... lol too bad i dont live near it anymore! i could relieve them of their chicken poo sigh oh well.......
PS 2 more blooms tonight. it is cool tonight, so maybe some nicer color.

They seem to take a little longer to unfurl in cooler weather but the blooms last longer, I think. TL, my grandpa ran a sawmill, so Grandma would put the sawdust in the chicken coop. When she cleaned out the coop, she hauled it to the garden. Her flowers and vegetables loved it!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

hmmmmm that gives me ani idea... maybe if i mix some pluff mud from our saltmarsh, but more up towards the freshwater areas, i could mix that w. the soil from the swamps and sand from behind the dunes at the beach, and..... i might get a good soil.... or i could be sentencing some 'giunea pig plants' to death... its worth a try. the pluff mud, if taken from a non-salty place has alot of good stuff in it, but it has that nasty dead-sea-animals-mixed-w.-a fart smell.... lots of sulfuric gas emited by the decomp. of all that stuff... would that not be good for the guinea pigs? Dont worry, they will be cheap walmart plants... no brugs harmed in the making of this experiment!!!

Sumner, WA(Zone 8a)

AuntB,
I bought my CG in June and he was about 3 foot tall, he is now over 7 foot and loaded with blooms. This has been a great starter brug for me---very fast and very rewarding!! I am hooked and am looking forward to adding more brugs!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

you should post some pics!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

We accept the addiction so willingly. lol That's what happened to me. Got brugs in the spring and once I saw and smelled the blooms, I fell hopelessly in love. I think my CG's are retarded or something. I'll baby them in my dining room again this winter and if they don't flourish next spring, I think they will be compost. TL, I feed mine liquid kelp/seaweed...... I wouldn't trust it with brugs, either... until you test it with something less valuable... Very interesting experiment though, let me know how it turns out, post or d-mail me, I just love tests like that.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

sure will..... once i get around to it!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, yes, have any pics? (we love pics)

Sumner, WA(Zone 8a)

Here is a picture of my CG. It has a lot more buds on it now---I hope the frost waits!!
