Buff Orpingtons :)

Lily_love, no, it won't...

I just finished watching all the videos, without a single glitch. It was very entertaining and informative. I am really looking forward to seeing more! Great new feature, Dave.

Dave,
Just sent you my first gardening video, please have a check. I shot the video with my digital camera and then recorded my voice in the computer via 'video studio 9'. What you see and hear is the outcome. I know it is not perfect, but I'd like to 'throw a stone in order to get a jade', as the Chinese saying goes. I'd be very appreciated if any suggestions or comments are given.
Happy gardening!

Love the videos. A great concept for a lot of us. Thank you!

I still have to check out the tomato video.

I can't wait to see Jianhua's video....and I love the saying.....Jo

I love it!! Works perfectly for me. I'm on Vista using IE 7.0.6
Hope people contribute tons of videos. I now know what the stirrup sticks are for- always wondered how that would work. They were with the garden tools, so I assumed they were one, but just couldn't visualize it.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Works great for me. I'm on a Mac. (OS X)

Oh. This is too cool. I just bought a new HD camcorder yesterday to show how-to's on our site. I'm going to start with basic planting of our material, and then work on some grafting videos as well.

Great feature Dave. I look forward to contributing.

I'm sure it's been answered, but is there a file size or resolution size limit. I skimmed and didn't catch one.

Chris

No filesize limit. Just around 5 minutes length limit please. Resolution will be scaled down by me for the website.

Roadrunner,
I did send to Dave my first gardening video as a draft.
Dave's replying to me is that the video is good except that the audio is a little slower after the compression. So I will have to work on it once again when I have time. I told Dave to put it away for the time being. RR, I'd like to email this draft video to you and to hear your comments and suggestions if you send me your regular email address.
(New things occur every day, have to catch up...hehehe)

Dave is there any way of making the volume control bar any larger? I turn it up all the way and use the control in my task bar to do the volume.

I do like this feature and its possibilities.

TARogers5, I'm afraid that the volume bar goes all the way as high as it can go. Have you checked your speakers to make sure that the volume on them is high enough?

dave

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Dave it was not the volume not being high enough it is my eyesight. LOL
The control for it is too small, unless I put on some reading glasses.

Ahh, I see. I'll see about making the default volume to be the highest, and then the viewer can adjust it down if needed.

best,
dave

Will video someday be available in our Garden Diaries? I think that would be really cool, especially if it incorporated the new Groups/Friends feature, so we would have some control over who viewed it. I don't think I would be comfortable posting a video in the actual video section, since I have no expertise to share. But if, say, I wanted to make a video of the progress of a new flowerbed project, and I could control who watched it, I would be comfortable.
My friends already know what a dork I am, so no embarrassment. LOL

Definitely one day. :)

Ooo, what a fantastic addition! I'll now have to catch up with my camera's ability to take videos with voice. There is more work for me now to do on this!!

For the time being at least, why not we upload our videos in other websites and link them up here? As a make-shift arrangement till such time Dave comes up with the full-fledged system right here ..... just a suggestion.

QUICK! Somebody contact TOMTOM in Japan and have her make a video of the papercrete technique on the Container forum!

Question for Dave: Would you ever plant a tomato seed in a paper pot to germinate? Just curious.

I watched ALL the videos without any problem. Dave, you're a natural in front of the camera. TOTALLY great idea! Thanks for being "Dave!"

Question for Dave: Do we have a community called "Tips and Tricks?" If not, can we have one, and put a tab for it in our "MY TOOLS" tab?

Linda

P.S. Did I say the videos were "GREAT!?"

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Good idea Linda!

Thanks Safonisba. Dave?

A tips and Tricks feature sounds like a lot of fun. I'm a little covered up right now but I've got it on my "wishlist". :)

And yes, I would and have sown tomato seeds in paper pots. :)

Cool!

Just saw this thread......................the tutorial on plumerias is fantastic.............everything was so easy to see......................

I wish these real knowledgeable people on every forum would make tutorials. They are such a blessing to so many of us.....................and inspiring to say the least!!!!!!!!

DGers have now sent me over 10 great plumerias in trades. I had never even thought about trying to grow them. They are easy and beautiful to look at.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Just noticed the videos feature, so glad to know it's not something I missed from a long time ago! Thanks for this new feature!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I like the video best about raised beds because that is my next project and I was getting ready to do two things wrong.
One was to have it on the north side of the house and the second was to put it where the ground is lower and Dave said on the video that a lower area is more prone to frosts,

This is a great feature

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Gail, you will love raised beds. I have done this type of gardening for years. So much easier. Just remember to keep adding materials once the beds break down completely. I call it lasagna gardening.
Linda

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a lot to learn I know. In the past, I just depended on Blood Meal and Bone Meal to put in the original raised beds. Then the soil is so hot it burns some plants.

Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

Dave; I watched several videos. No problems! "One video is worth a thousand words" or "seeing is as good as doing?" Good job---give us more videos!

would love to see a video on pruning fruit trees, azaleas, blackberries and roses...loved those videos already submitted...played great for me...virginbred

Hi dave
joined as a paid member recently . As we now live in Southern Spain temps range from -8 in winter to 45C ! in the height of summer so most of our garden is taken up with succulents and palms of varying species.
You're video on tomato growing was / is useful. I never knew that the yung plants could be almost buried; we'll certainly try this in 3 weeks' time when the seedlings are ready.
Thanks again and if you can make videos regarding Meditterano plants etc we'd appreciate it.

Gracias

Geoff
