The Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn Today..Pt 9

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Wow Wonder that is quite the bracelet! Do you have others to show us? You have a great kitchen! It's also fun getting to know you.

I'll start with your list
Color-now that is hard. I think it depends on the mood. Love earth tones but then the primaries are outstanding also.
Food- Ham is the favorite- corn on the cob- garden fresh vegies-bing cherries
time of year-summer because you can be outside so much and all the color that comes with it.
Silver and gold I wear both
time of day- morning-when the birds first start singing
movie- Lords of the rings series-read the books the first time when I was a teenager and the movies really brought them to life. Now if they would just do some of the Anne McCaffery books into movies!

Best thing::: I have a pea picking pea stealing dog. Yep my dog eats peas in the pod. He tried picking them and when that didn't work he'd steal them out of my bucket! LOL

What did I learn :::That DH's can be pretty good.

Worst thing::: saw a man doing something in the store a person shouldn't see. Thank goodness no kids were in the store.

Morning all..storm passed by, just looked outside - no damage...doesn't look like a 'sunshine' day so it doesn't make me feel bad about going painting today..if anything I'll have a beautiful work of art tonight...

Laura, love the bracelet..my goodness girl you are talented..love the kitchen as well...what a family..keep looking for that hubbie of yours...nice to put a fact to a person...

favorite colour? navy and white

favorite food? in all honesty, it's anything I don't have to cook..only food I don't like is fish/seafood etc...

favorite time of the day? Early morning...up at 4:45 every day, even on weekends it's shortly after 5:00 am..by noon I've usually put in a days work..

favorite movie? Officer and a Gentleman

Wonder, the film is "Sicko". It is a documentary about the US healthcare system, and shows ho they do things in a few other countries. Even though I've lived here all my life, I am always amazed when someone thoughtfully compares us to other nations.

or...were you asking about my all time favorite?--those questions stump me cause I like so much :)

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

no your right, i just wondered about the movie.

I hear that your health system is diffucult and expensive. Over here we have free health care. hospital and GP's are free. Medicine is average depending on wether you are on some sort of benefit or low income earner. If you are on a pension for being 55+, enemployemnt, carers pension, single mother, low income and more, you get a discount card for medication. It costs you about $2.75 a script. If not, anywhere from $14 to $20 per script. Other than that you dont pay. You also get free ambulance. Dentists are not covered however there is a public dental system that you can go without cost in an emergency or book into on the waiting list for dental surgery. Children in prep to grade 6 get free dental care.

health cover for glasses and dental and pysio and all sorts of other things including ambulance trasport is about $56 per month for a family, no limit on the number of children and they can stay on it until they are 24. I find it a good help. Specialists are pricy if you dont have a pension card but the government will pay you back about 80% of the cost. same with special tests like scans and such. exrays and blood tests are free.

anyway i thought you might be interested in that. we are the lucky country when it comes to that. so if there is an emergency, you can call an ambulance and be taken to the public hospital (they are the only ones with emergency departments) and always be taken care of.

betty... look forward to seeing the art work!

Hubby doesnt want his pic on here... big sook!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Wonder, I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind, I'm curious. Not trying to cross into political.

What percentage of your income do people pay in taxes?

and if you go to the emergency room, how long do you have to wait?

I have no insurance. Last year I had to go to the emergency room, and I got a $1200 bill. The actual doctor's visit was $76.00 and medication (which was the wrong thing actually) they gave was $22. Luckily I was able to pay and am relatively healthy.

Wonder: Such a pretty bracelet. I love it!

Best: It rained a whole 1/2" last night and is still raining so the plants are happy.
Worst: Couldn't take the pups out for their walk and they are restless.
Learned: Hmmm...don't know yet. OK, I now have learned I can't recall what my favorite movie is, so - more proof that the old memory ain't what it used to be.

Favorite color: cobalt blue
Favorite food: Like Betty, anything I don't have to cook! I do love almost any pasta. :)
Fav. time of yr: Summer. I'm a hot weather girl.
Gold or silver: Silver!
Time of day: really early morning (Tho I don't see it often enough.)
Movie: of all time?... hard to think. .. altho Bluekat mentioned 2 of my favorites, Young Frankenstein and The Usual Suspects.

Betty, the batik is lovely, and you did a great job! Equally lovely is the "nook " in which it sits.....such nostalgia!
I hope you enjoyed the class. batik can be fun to do, but only if you are so inspired.....I hate ironing!!!!

Birthday weekend is over, and ethan left very upset, wanted to stay, but of course he will be back in 2 weeks, so maybe Nana will be rested by then. We had a great time.

Now the cats and i need a break, so we will be back later this evening. It is very hot tody, can't work outside, and since Ethan was in and out all morning, the house got too hot today. Might have to take little nap, just till it cools off.
Hugs to all.

hi there,

trop, tax is about 30c in the dollar depending on your income. Once you get into the $100,000.00 per year its higher.

the emergency room wait time depends on how busy it is and you are taken by order of urgency. sometimes straight in sometimes and hour or two. no charge tho and if they give you medication, its free as is the doctor and all treatment.

the mermaids were mostly gifts. I did fine some of them at a store called 'big in black. they are online if you want to make an enquiry. biginblack.com

now for the questions.

person dead or alive? marilyn munroe
no alcoholic? indian tonic water with lemon
alcoholic? missisipi mudslide
Flower? jonquils
icecream? homer hudsons choc rock
favorite smell? my husbands pillow
robert redford.

The bracelet, i made another and sold it. a purple one but there is so much work in them, better to give them as a gift than try and get your money back for them. they are cool arent they? you should give it a go!

Betty the painting is gorgeous. and the little nook its in is wonderful! i would love to see some pics of your home!

best thing? on holidays for the week. doing some baking today and painting as soon as the postie arrives!
worst? still got a sore throat....

xx

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well ladies, almost time to call it a night...finished grass and it's after 8pm..have the picture hung in the hallway so not a complete waste..just came in and the gentleman down the street that I commissioned on Fri. to do a frame for the outside art project I want to do next weekend brought it over..more work to do..not sure what color it should be - green with gold trim might get lost amongst the trees, blue with gold trim might be ok or stain and painted trim...don't know...will order 2 - 10ft. 4x4's and 6 bags of cement..if I can get the frame painted, maybe Friday morning it will be up waiting for shrubs and my painted chairs..now on the hunt for huge trailing hanging basket for the centre..anxious to see it done....

Best thing that happened to me today...got everything - plus accomplished...

Worse thing..mixed feelings about that one..Michelle, the young woman with 3 kids that just returned to her husband who turned to drugs went back to him last week because he saw what he had done to them, well yesterday he left about 2 and at 6 still had not returned so she said she saw wisdom in leaving him, coming back up here and staying with mom and dad until she can find accomodations..

What did I learn today...that I miss my old painting buds, will have to make a point of painting with them more often, but when you leave at 7am and don't get back till 6:30pm it's pretty hard to go painting till 11...oh well, I'll figure it out...

You've all posted such fun things but my apologies, no more energy..quick bath and off to bed I go...but tomorrow at work, it will be relaxing so I'll have plenty of time to play with you all...

I so enjoyed your posts...

Here's the frame I just had made...it's 5' long x 4' wide..4 feet should be wide enough to house a big hanging plant wouldn't you think...ideas and/or suggestions please...lol

Cooled down, rested, house straightened....now starving for leftover chocolate icecream from ethan's party, but saving for later.....
Loved the bracelet, I like beading, but have little patience so can only do on thing at a time.....one small thing....
tropi, I am with you about the healthcare.......no solution in sight, though.

Liz, I am in western KY, near the tennessee border.....just hot hot and humid today, has been nice all week, but today was a scortcher.

Best: getting a cute note from bluekat
worst: saying good bye to my son and grandson
what I learned: not much except that am beginning to look forward to tomorrows again.
favorites: ahhhhhh, wonder......can't make up my mind, I like too many things and people.....
conversation: my grandfather who died when I was 7
non alcohol....water with lots of lime slices
alcohol....don't drink much....but if I do, Pinch with a splash of water and a slice of lime, lots of ice
flower: daylily, hibiscus, morning glory
icecream.....any as long as it is chocolate, chocolate, chocolate
neither brad pitt, nor robert redford......somebody older...like maybe robert duvall or......don't know, will have to think about it.
can you tell I am not a movie goer?
so now, you folks have a nice evening, and back to work you go tomorrow. Hugs.
sharon

Best today - waking up and thinking it was Monday but realizing it was Sunday!

Worst - electrician here all day (nothing serious) being lazy just hanging around but it was so hot 97F!

Sharon that is one big hanging basket! I see lots of watering and fertilizer. Did you make it?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Made it with the help of a friend who has a garden nursery......the thing is so heavy i had to have them deliver and hang it. it is a 3 tiered pot, huge thing.......haven't figured out yet how I will ever get it down at the end of summer.....will have to yell for help again if I do it next year, but it is really beautiful .....and yep....water and miracle gro.......lots!!!

OMG! I have missed so much! Getting through these graduate classes is going to be so worth it. I get so tired of writing papers that I just turn off the computer when I'm done.
But, Gita, I loved the poem from Thread 7 and the other words of wisdom.
Betty, your heron is beautiful.
LOVED the pictures of the frogs on thread 8.
I'm starting on my children's book when my graduate classes are done. I am going to use my computer to do the illustrations for the book since I can't draw. I had a local artist who agreed to do the illustrations, but he lost everything to Katrina 2 years ago and has spent the last 2 years trying to get his life and work back in order. When I saw his home and his studio after the hurricane, I was so humbled. My family and I lost all to Katrina, too. But we did not lose our livelihood. We still had jobs after Katrina. But the artist lost almost everything; his entire life's work (literally).
Anyway, I'm going to answer the questions and I'll post more later about my life history. I think I finished my mom and dad and was about to begin my story the last time I posted.
favorite color - forest green
favorite food - chocolate
favorite time of the year - spring
gold or silver - gold
favorite time of the day - early morning
favorite movie - Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer

Here's some more fun questions to add:

- If you could have a conversation with one person - dead or alive - who would it be? my Daddy
- Favorite non-alcoholic drink: Dr. Pepper
- Favorite alcoholic drink: margarita
- Favorite flower: roses
- Favorite ice cream: Vanilla with Strawberries (not strawberry flavored ice cream)
- Favorite smell: fresh dried sheets on the clothes line (gotta agree with this one)
- Brad Pitt or Robert Redford: neither, my husband is my "favorite star"

Best thing today: Being alive and being thankful for it
Worst thing today: allergies acting up
what I learned: summer goes by too fast
love to all, julie

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Ok best today was that it didn't rain as heavy as they thought it would

Worst was that sugar has been going up for the last week...grrr so back to the doctor

What I learned (learned 2 things) one If you whack a 4lb lobsters claw with a rolling pin at the right angle raw lobster goo will fly across your kitchen and splat against the wall then slide down into your purse. Ask me how I learned this....

Also learned that you can now download movies etc off of Amazon.com.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

I am so excited, first one I ever had that lived and bloomed!

Thumbnail by Sharran
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

that is gorgous!
how big is it?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

About as big as a salad bowl, or maybe a saucer....it is so so lovely, just glows in the dark.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

wow! really> i never heard of one let alone seen one...

how amazing!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Smells great too......first time I ever had one, started it from seed. I am so excited, but nobody will ever see it but me, cause it only blooms at night!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

no way!

wow that is amazing.....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Scared me when I first saw it, glanced out and it looked like a white ball moving back and forth (wind was blowing a little bit)...then I noticed where it was, went outside, bare feet and jammies.....and there it was, Amazing is right, I love it! trouble is, it will be gone in the morning...
I just measured, it is as big around as a very large mug......not just a coffee cup, but a large, large mug, so not quite as big as a saucer. So excited I exaggerated!!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

why will it be gone in the morning?

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL..I thought I was bad, don't you nice people ever sleep?

Off to work, something's happened to the boss..SIL won't tell me till I get to her house..hmmm hope it's minor..says I have to cancel all of his appt. for this week...doesn't sound good...
