Good point pbtx.
Dallas Fall Plant Swap
I didn't get any of my fall plants last year planted. I keep them alive till spring and planted them then... mostly due to my timing not the swap timing.
Mitch, what about Robert Kemp? I am going crazy with this
We had the plant swap before the lst weekend of Oct, and moved it last year due to other swaps and such. To me the bigger worry is the heat that lingers in the first of Oct rather then the cold - it makes it some years hard to plant.
Sylvia - we will have to see time and such... maybe the best thing to do would be a garden tour on another day in the fall? No swapping or the such just get together at one place and drive together to see some wonderful gardens.
Mitch I meant the canna could it be Robert Kemp?
lol .. Let me think... it just might be
Whatever it is, Sylvia, save just a little piece of rhizome for me! I have 'Robert Kemp,' and it looks different to me. http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/128624/
Do you think yours might be 'Pink Beauty'? http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://sd1new.net/GardenPages/canna-madamebutterfly-single.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.sd1new.net/GardenPages/canna-pinkbeauty.htm&h=246&w=335&sz=11&hl=en&start=0&um=1&tbnid=Wye9YfVg9h3mOM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=119&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcanna%2B%2522pink%2Bbeauty%2522%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3DGGLD,GGLD:2004-30,GGLD:en%26sa%3DG
Your garden is looking fabulous! Remember I saw it in the beginning with just lots and lots of pots of hostas and other stuff everywhere.

Thats it Pat! it has that little twinge of white on the edge. I went thru the entire Karchensky collection looking for it, but I didnt think it would be considered a tall Canna. The person who gave me the canna is in Wyoming or Nebraska, but its not one of the names i was give.
Thanks Pat
What about Oct 13 for the swap? Is that a better compromise?
Any date in October will work for me, as long as I know in advance. :) But I think October 13 would give our little gems more time to get established before a freeze.
I have to wait and see. The wildscape greenhouse is having a sale in October and I have to be there, but it is not set yet, so I have to wait until I know that date is set.
Josephine.
oct 13 is the south texas swap... I would have to chose :( :( :(
I'm headed to the South Texas RU in Taft on Oct. 13. We usually don't have fall, much less winter, in Texas until late November or December. This year, who knows?
I'm another one headed to S Tx Swap on the 13th but was really trying to make both but can't do that if they are same day!
Right in the metro plex we should be safe with 6 weeks after words, the most will be a light freeze and that should not matter too much.
I hope...
is it poss. to change the date of the dallas swap because i want you up here, smockette? lol.
mamajack - the date of the Dallas swap for now is the last weekend in Oct, the week after the South Texas Swap
kuh-oool!
At least for now, me and Josephine are working out all the details.
being in the middle... I get to do lots of traveling! *giggle
Mamajack where is this So Texas swap you are taking Linda?
Taft!
Where is that?
How's this for an answer?
"Distances to Taft:

I think they really want EVERYONE to come! LOL
Sure wish I could - just really far for me... we have a really big state!
lol. i am not taking smockette. i just didn't want to miss her at the dallas swap but that was taken care of before i even asked them if we could change it.
Hello Everybody, It is time to get serious about setting a date for the Swap. As far as we are concerned the weekend of October 27th or 28th is fine, or we could do it the prior one 20th or 21rst.
Either Saturday or Sunday is fine with us, we usually start at noon and that gives people time to go to church.
So please put in your vote as to Saturday or Sunday, and which weekend you prefer 20-21 or 27-28.
Also even though the pavilion at veterans park is very nice, the walk from the parking lot is quite a distance and carrying plants it can get exhausting.
I have looked around and the pavilion at Randol Mill park is very nice, the pavilion is right on the edge of the parking lot, so carrying plants would be a breeze. There are many picnic tables all under oaks and bathroom facilities nearby.
The only problem it costs $100.00 to rent for the day. I think the price is very reasonable, and if just 20 households attend it would only be $5.00 each, so it is not prohibitive.
Please vote on this too, so we can know what to do.
I hope to hear from all of you soon.
Your friend and fellow plant lover:
Josephine.
Josephine you knwo the 28th at noon in Vetrans Park is my vote.
Lets vote for the next two or three days and then I will start the threads on swaps and what to bring food wise and such.
My vote is for Randol Mill Park on Saturday, Oct. 27. (Actually we will be happy with any of the proposed dates or locations. Just the carrying of plants at Veterans Park was difficult for us last year.)
i prefer a sun. i know there will be a halloween carnival toward the end of oct. that i will have to work at and it's always on sat.
I vote for Randol Mill Park! Sunday is good too.
The date isn't a factor for me, so I will go either weekend and either day. So I will leave the vote to others on that.
But I definately vote for Randol Mill Park after the long uphill walk to the pavillion at Vet. Park. It would be nice not to dread that and concern with whatever the weather might be doing that day. $5 is a bargain to me.
Here is a picture and info I found on Randol Mill park.

and a map http://maps.google.com/maps?tab=wl
Thank you for the map and the link Sheila.
If we go to Veterans Park, I can help folks carry their plants. Heck, I'll carry people's plants whereever we go! Since I don't have much to trade, I'm gonna make me a cardboard sign that reads "Will work for plants".

I vote for Randol Mill park, as it's a little easier for me to get to from McKinney. The closer parking lot is a plus too!
I actually prefer the earlier date, as it gives me an extra week to get stuff planted (I can't always get it done immediately). $5 is no big deal either.
Here is a link to a map for Randol Mill Park. Its basically just past Rangers and Six Flags on the way to Fort Worth

OMG!!! How many yrs did I drive fr Handley to Arlington to work on Randol Mill b/c the Turnpike was too expensive? Dating myself by remembering the Turnpike! lol I was young then!!!
I vote Randol Mill on the 20th. If Sunday is the preferred day, I will just have to leave & drive south for Monday work.
Where do I pay my $5?
I would love to attend this swap this year, and perhaps I could bring mom as well. I don't know which weekend to vote for as she will be working every other week but I don't know which one. I'll just sit back and see what everyone else decides I guess.
:) Kim
Randall Mills it looks like it is..
I see a split in the dates so far I am going to keep watching for a few more.
Either day/date works for me, and I vote for Randol Mill too. Why spend all that time lugging things to/from the car (and helping other people lug their goodies) when we could be spending it getting to know each other and oogling over the plants. :-)
Carla
