Dallas Fall Plant Swap

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

No problem Carla, be sure to remind me about it later on.

Dallas, TX

Dawn .... I am so glad to see you online.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! Ya'll seem like a pretty close-knit group! I would love to make the swap, but I'm afraid all I would have to offer is some Johnny Jumpup Seeds (3rd yr), and Indian Blanket and Blackeyed Susan ( 2nd yr). Also, Josephine, would you like me to bring you some of those Winged Loosestrife seeds? I think you might have a better chance of getting them going. I might also have some Red Yucca seeds (3rd yr) and some Cyprus Rose seeds, along with Four O'Clocks roots. I'm new to DG and am ready to absorb all the info that ya'll can offer! Oh, my name is T.J. and I'm 26 yr old father of 2. GROW ORGANIC!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

hello broncbuster. glad to have you. never worry about what you "don't have". when time is closer there will be a new thread started and everybody will start listing what they have extras of and you can get some new plants to try.

and your name implies that you might have access to some .............uh.................er......... horse poop. now in some circles poop might not be welcome but with this group you could soar right up to the top of our social ladder. lol.

Dallas, TX

Welcome to the Group TJ! Good to meet more people around here... and we are very close we a tight knit bond ... We grow stuff! .... and we like each other too ... hope to see you in Arlington.
.... and bring them 2 kids of yours.... :)
Sylvia

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Mamajack, Thanks and yes I do have access to free horse and cow manure, but I use mostly chicken manure which I also have an abundant supply of. Let me know what you want and I'll bring it. I've also been considering putting up bat houses at my place for the guano and insect control.
Sylvia, thank you and the wife and kids will be in tow!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

T.J. good to see you on this thread, we would love to have you at the swap.
Yes, i would love to have some of the Winged Loosestrife seeds, let us see what we can do, since it is a lovely perennial. And please don't worry about what to bring.
Josephine.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Josephine, I'll do my best to collect them but no promises.

I also have access to an abundant supply of native mulch if anyone is interested.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Manure and mulch are good things, let us talk as we get closer to the date.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Heh. TJ, please keep me on your list for chicken manure!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Same here - will trade for one or both!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

yep, just as i figured............. t.j.'s at the top of the food chain.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

See, and you thought you didn't have anything to trade! LOL!

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

These two, Leo and Gypsy, work for me full time making organic fertilizer. Now if I could just teach them to bag it! lol

Welcome, TJ, to the most fun, informative, & all around good garden there is!!!
You are not a stranger anymore! You are one of us! You have just become a DGer!
Hope to see @ the 'Dallas' Swap & CSRU, also!
:~)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

hello smockette. how come dallas has a swap but college station gets a round-up?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Where does Dave live?
:~)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Here I show my ignorance once more. What's the difference in a swap or a round up?

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the welcome Smockette! I can't believe I'm gonna trade manure for beautiful plants! But, I guess without the manure, they wouldn't be so beautiful! This chicken manure is the best you can get. My chickens are completely free range.
I just realized yesterday that Oct. 27 is also the day that the Texas Country Reporter will be having it's annual festival in Waxahachie. Oh well, I'd rather go to the swap and meet everyone.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

smockette is the only one i know who has been to both so she will have to say. but i am the resident trouble maker and i am happy to know that i have caused some. i suspect there is no difference. lol.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

OK ready for the big difference??

A Round up - the Dave Garden word for Swaps

Garden Swap - the old word for Round Ups still used in most of the web based plant forums....

That is the big big big difference

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

tkx

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

No problem... Me and Frostweed started the Dallas Garden/Plant Swap so I used the word I was used to using...

BTW - We will be starting the Threads on the Swap aug First!! There is a tour of a couple local gardens too in the works for after the swap for those interested!

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey, do you think that Weston Gardens might be one of them?

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Do you guys listen/subscribe to Howard Garrett- The Dirt Doctor?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I know they will be in the Arlington area, but for where for sure I know the Josephine is working with several wonderful gardens and thoes will for sure be on the list. So they are near the plant swap site.

Can you tell me more about the Weston Gardens?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

The first Texas RU was on the Oklahoma side of Lake Texoma. Location was picked to have a larger group. Ask Ted. 2001? That is where I first met him & was so dumb that I asked about his DG name, TAROGERS. Blonde moment... T A Rogers.
When I think of RU, I think of DGers coming fr the whole state not a just one area. But not everyone can travel long distances, & now especially with the price of gas.
College Station is central Texas & it is coincidental that the 'Dave' now lives there.
But it don't matter! Whatever you want to call a gettogether! Just make sure I hear about it, please. I make them like they are my vaca. I get to see DGers I may have been talking to online for yrs.
Broncbuster, we have one DGer that lives in AZ & travels all over the country making swaps, meeting DGers, & just in general, having a great time with great people. Her name is RoadRunner. She even came to CSRU last yr!
:~)

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Mitch, I can't tell you a lot. I used to work with Randy Weston (many moons ago) and remember when they started it up. But I'm a long drive from Arlington, so I've only been there once. From what I've heard, the demonstration gardens are why we might want to go.

Bronc, I listen to Howard. I started organic gardening about the time he was just getting going, and he was the only one in this area who could provide advice. OG is a lot easier now than it was back then!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Great I hope Josephine will read this and we can think about getting it added to the list too!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello Everyone, are we talking about going on garden tour or tours the day of the swap?
Well, as I recall we usually wear ourselves out just talking eating and carrying plants back and forth to the cars.
I think that if we have the energy and time left, we might be able to fit in one place, and the most logical seems to be the Veterans Park Wildscape which is right there in the same park.
Weston gardens is very nice, I have been there twice, but it is a distance south of Fort Worth, and it would probably take too much time.
Of course you guys can decide what you would like to do, but that is my thinking at this time. Maybe we should do garden tours at a different time.
Josephine.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I would love to travel to take the crew to the Historical garden there in town too. Where the butterfly garden is located. I think we might be able to do them both .. maybe???

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I am not opposed to it, we shall see how we feel at the time and act accordingly.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I know... a lot will matter on the day, the heat, and the fun.

Dallas, TX

OMG! I know I wont be able to do that(Garden Tour) unless someone is going to move me around in a wheelchair, I can barely make it to the car. lol

LOU C, that you i was suppose to tell about the Desert Rose when I saw them at HD? Well they have them.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

sylvia, did they have any new and different salvias at the HD? do you go to the one over off skillman?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Sylvia if we do one I will push the chair if you want to come along.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia, wasn't me but I thank you anyway. You are so thoughtful. Redoing my beds this week and doing more container garden..Desert Rose would fit right in.

Have a blessed day.

LouC

Dallas, TX

hhhmm whomever it was lived in Desota, but I cant find the Dmail. Linda do you remember who that was? you were on that thread.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Not off the top of my head & besides I have slept since then.
But maybe Sheila might remember.
Oh, Sheila.........

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, the Dirt Doctor is my go to guy since I've chosen the organic way. I do have one problem, however, that I've never heard him address. I've got an infestation of some sort of isect that sucks the juice out of my prickly pear cactus. I've tried orange oil, compost tea, and dish soap and can't get rid of them. Lately, though, I've notice their numbers dwindling. I think there's another insect eating them. That's what I love about nature: If you help her, she usually returns the favor. If anyone knows what these bugs are or how to control them, I would appreciate the advice.
