What is growing nicely for you right now? page 2

And how does Mrs. Victor Garden feel about that?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

She'll assume I'm in the garden.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

OK Adam but don't eat that apple - not even a little bite.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

My Evening Scented Primrose 'Missouriensis' is starting to bloom.
These are tough perennials as long as they get good drainage and sun. They will live for ever. This one is almost 20. It will be a mass of yellow in a week or so.

Hee hee. There's an electrified fence around that orchard!!

Andy, I have Missouriensis too. Just took a photo today but have not downloaded. I love the plant. One day blooms and as they fade they turn a light orange. Very nice.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor, they make the coolest seed pods, too.

True.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Couldn't believe my eyes. Came home and lupine, foxglove, eve. primrose (my thanks to someone here- I believe), bellflower, daylily and penstemon had joined my rapidly spreading roses and disappearing peony.

Also realized I made a height miscalculation or 2 in my new garden.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's okay. I'm not into perfect size order in the garden Looks unnatural.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Pirl, Sorry I failed to comment on the Cape Cod roses. That's a super pic.
I've seen them on the Cape, very fragrant too.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Noone would ever accuse me of being too orderly in my garden. But I have a rose bush I can't see until I'm standing over it. Live & learn.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the primrose

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Dave, whenever something 'doesn't quite fit' I think of it as having 'character'.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I like that Andy - I've had a few of those...

Onewish - your 'daisy' from the other thread was very pretty. Is it behaved in shape, size and spread?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Now that I slept on thinking about the pink flower of onewish's I think it's probably Erigeron and absolutely not Convolvuous.

Physocarpus 'Coppertina'.

I like that one victor

One of the Malva 'Zebrina' that I started from seed this year has started to bloom! Very excited!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I gotta get one of those too.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I just found one growing in real earth today. I'll try and gently get it for you, Harper, but they resent being moved by my experience.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I didn't have luck with 4 malva that I moved from my honeys aunts house... and she has very soft deep dirt it was very easy to dig up... but still just shriveled up... I also started some zebrina this year had a few blooms a few weeks ago and now they are just taking off .... i swear they look bigger every day

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

My Malva Zebrina are starting to bloom, too. They pop up everywhere. The ones that grow in the Fall are the most robust. I had them well into December last year.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pirl, I'm always moved by your experience. The malva should be too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's great to hear andy.... they are sooooo pretty

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Anitabryk2 sorry I missed your post eariler.... but yes it has been in that spot for three years.... and to tell you the truth it's the first time it bloomed nicely... last year wasn't nearly as big

Pirl-I am so very sorry for the loss of your friend. Please accept my condolences.
Dawn

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

thanks onewish - I'm always looking for new ideas and new plantings

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thank you, Dawn.

Dave - you're funny! Yes, I'll use my longest sharpest knife to cut a wide circle around the malva, then gently hose it down, in the hopes Harper will have it growing in her garden before next week but, just as onewish experienced, they do resent the move. I'll keep my eyes opened for more babies but their roots go almost as deep as the tall ones. If I start cutting through the driveway or the cement walk you can still write to me at DG and Jack (my DH) will deliver them to me at the rest home.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I've got 2 different short spring asters and one tall floppy one.

Fanfare gaillardia is still getting bigger

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great photos, Al, especially the bachelor button!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice pics Al, Love the smoke tree, it's really loaded isn't it?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Al, I like Gaillardia but have not tried the Fanfare. How does it compare to Goblin or Arizona Sun? I know the petals are different.
That's a nice specimen.

I'll add my back yard perennial bed as of yesterday morning.
You can see the Mountain Laurel against the house on the right. The wall of green is 3 Clematis 'Polish Spirit' days away from blooming on the dog fence. The last Iris, Peonies and the first Stella D'Oro.
The light green cluster on the front/left is Garden Phlox that I cut in half a month ago. They will not flop over in the rain when in full bloom next month.
