Where's the pics of all the Caladiums everyone's planted?

This lurker is experiencing extreme zone envy. Your calladiums are gorgeous, all! I've seen them in the greenhouses here, but I think we're meant to grow them here as house plants. They'd probably have heart attacks if we put them outside right now. LOL.

What are your night time temperatures?

Here's Pink Symphony

It sure does look nice!! And it's no where near the cost of the Thai Beauty

Right now, 8 - 10 C (46 - 50 F). Can be a bit warmer than that in July & August, but can get cooler too.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I love your Miss Muffett. It is adorable, though I'd want it just for the name alone! :)

Lake Placid, FL(Zone 9b)

Jo,

Unfortunately that is way to cool to grow them outdoors. They do make nice houseplants though.
Especially the strap leaf varieties(IE: Miss Muffet, Red Ruffle)

I kind of figured so, hence the zone envy thing. But love to see all of your pix! I'm certainly going to check Calladiums out more closely next time I'm at a greenhouse. I may have room to squeeze one in between my orchids...boy, do I live in the wrong climate!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Postman Joyner is very unusual! It looks like it had some confusion over which color it wanted to be..lol Very pretty too! All of your bulbs are just beauties!!!!

Port Charlotte, FL(Zone 10a)

Wow! Everybody's caladiums look so good!

Your Photo's are awesome Bill! Nice to see the different varieties planted. Thank's also for the recent order but it took me a little while to plant them.

My others are doing really well and I filled in all the holes with the Gingerland and Rosebud...can't wait until they "pop".

Planted the "Florida Cardinals" on their own and I think they'll be gorgeous!

Here's an interesting variety I came across. Again, I planted them fairly late and they're just starting to come up. Kind of different. A little on the psychedelic side! haha

Kathy,

The Gingerland is going to look good. Those were nice bulbs :-)

The Rosebud is one of my personal favorites.

Kat,

That FL Beauty is beautiful.
Where did you get them from? The Caladium Bulb Company
I've been meaning to get some. To the best of my knowledge there's only one or two farms growing it and I don't deal with either. I'd still like to have some for my collection.

I was over at Bok Sanctuary in central FL and saw some 'new to me' varieties.

They had 4 or 5 that are not commonly available. I will have to email them and ask them what and where.

Dale,

The bottom picture is White Wing, the name of the first pic is escaping me at the moment. When I remember I'll edit post w/ name. They do have some gorgeous plants there don't they!! I was there a couple weeks ago myself.

I just came back from Moms. I couldn't believe how absolutely gorgeous her pots are. Look at the difference in just a few weeks, compare this shot of the same pot between now and June 10th

THe window boxes are comming along nicely too.

The Fl Cardinal and Miss Muffet in that box seem to still be hiding. You can't see them very well from the front yet so here is a side view.

Holly,

The Miss Muffet is a dwarf and isn't going to grow very tall.
The FL Cardinal is a medium size Caladium, it should get a little taller.
Your plants look spectacular!! Very Pretty!!! :-)

Thanks Bill, The original plan was to plant Fl sweethearts and WC in the window boxes and put the extras into pots. But we started planting pots and then the extras just went into the window boxes instead. They are pretty but not quite as I had originally planed. Hope someone has another co--op next year. I definitely want to do this again and I will need more bulbs. I will pull my bulbs and try to overwinter them in the utility room but even if I lose them I think I got plenty of Bang for my Buck this year. My parents neighbor hood is the type where people take walks and they get sooo many compliments over those pots I did for them.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Very pretty! I have some trying to come up, and had lots of Miss Muffet coming in and "something ate them'! what eats caladiums? Rabbits? Oh my goodness, I have got to get someone to spray everything again...lol

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Janet, I've been having trouble with Groundhogs. My caladiums are safe since they sit up in pots or boxes, but the Groundhogs sure did a job on my pumpkin, gourds and squash plants. Not to mention my new poppies. They seem to like plants with thick stems do you think that might be what you have???
No Bill, I promise we are NOT having another one of those discussions on Groundhogs. ;} LOL

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

No groundhogs here...I have rabbits, deer, squirrels, chipmunks, skunk, possum, racoon, and a few other critters, but not ground hogs, thank God!!!!

Lake Placid, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Holly! I'm smart enough to stay out of any discussions about groundhogs...lolol... I learned my lesson...lolol.. Darn varmits...lolol..

If someone approaches me next year about supplying bulbs for another co-op I would probably be interested, it's a safe bet that there will be one next year.

Janet: Caladiums are "supposed to be" deer resistant, I'm not sure about rabbits. They don't bother mine!! I use Shake-Away around my beds because I did have a problem with squirels digging up the bulbs, not any more!! I got an email from Fed Ex showing the box was delivered yesterday, It did show up didn't it?

Hey Bill (BB),
How are you? I know what I want for my next wish list - those huge white MOONLIGHT. I've just joined since I've been over at the Secret Trade answering dmails for days. Great pictures. My Fl Sweethearts are coming up and looking great. If only we had started this thing sooner and the temps were warmer in VA mine would be looking great by now. Is Moonlight a sun or shade version? How large are those leaves?

Kathy

Wichita, KS(Zone 6a)

Bill - who do you buy your shake away from?

Lake Placid, FL(Zone 9b)

K,

BB, C'mon now... I'm doing good. Busier then a one armed paper hanger the last couple of months.
It doesn't really matter when the co-op got going. Caladiums aren't going to come up until the soil temps are high enough anyways. They're exploding out of the ground right now!! I planted an old wooden barrel full of bulbs 13 days ago and it looks un-believable already. There is still "plenty of time" to plant these and enjoy them.

gg- I usually end up buying it from an Ace Harware Outlet store, it's the cheapest I've found. The stuff works!! The squirels walk the power lines "around" my property. They think there's a coyote lurking on my property somewhere....lolol.... I haven't put any out in about a month and they still won't go into my beds.. Here's the link to where I get mine:

Oooh, Dale. Which variety is the large leaf in the front on the left and what are the two on the right? Lovely!

Nutmeg,

I was over at Bok Sanctuary in central FL and saw some 'new to me' varieties, those are them. Don't know what they are called or where to get them.

Yes, Bill they are here....thanks so much. I am going to try to pot them up tomorrow or Sunday, whichever day I can find a breeze..lol

and she's a bloomer! Which I didn't expect- this is the third group of flowers I've gotten :)

I love Miss Muffet, and I think all of those had blooms with them as they were sprouting..lol just showing off I guess..very nice pictures!

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks Janet! :) Did you figure out what was munching on your Miss Muffets? Had to chase a baby rabbit out of my yard today- usually it's just squirrels, but my beloved spouse forgot to close the gate, and who knows what's been eaten in the past day? This little guy was bold as you please, sitting in the middle of my veggie garden snacking way and looking right at me. He was cute, but had to go! They live in my neighbor’s garden shed, not sure how old they are, but they are still at the precious stage where you feel guilty running them off.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

LOL, no I had no idea, but they are eating the leaves right off the stalks...about as quickly as they open, now and not just Miss Muffet...I swear, I NEVER think about the animals eating them when I am planting them..lol what a bummer! I am now putting some in my pots, and just filled my porch window boxes with Pink Symphony, so I am going to have some the are not bold enough to get to! LOL
