Where's the pics of all the Caladiums everyone's planted?

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Whenever you have time is fine, Bill. Really, I understand! Just send them when you are ready!

KatG, come on over to the Coleus Forum http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/coleus/all/ we'll have you addicted to coleus before the day is over. They are the perfect companion plant with caladiums & oxalis.

This is how it always goes... more coleus? More caladiums...
More caladiums? More coleus....
More coleus? More caladiums...

You get the picture! LOL Hope we see you there...

Janet, the oxalis is Oxalis Triangularis (Purple Shamrock). I get them here http://www.easytogrowbulbs.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=899 as they are much cheaper than buying a container from the nursery and I have lots of ground to cover.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the link!

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks for the link here, too :) those are pretty! Wonder if I can keep them in the ground here if I put enough mulch on them?

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Hyblaean, I guess anything is possible. Even though it says zone 7 on everything I've read about these oxalis, I had a brug come back from last year after I mulched real good and put a huge pot upside down on it. So... it's certainly possible. Cheap enough it they don't too...

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

They are the right price :) I think I live too far north for all the plants I really like.

Port Charlotte, FL(Zone 10a)

Brinda...Thank-you so much for the coleus forum Link. That is totally another one of my faves. Also...I didn't know that Oxalis grew from bulbs. Thanks again for that link!

Here's some underplantings I did in some gigantic pots of Chinese Fan Palms a couple of weeks ago. A combo of Copper Plant, Coleus and Baby Sun rose...They're really filling out right now...

Kat, that is just stunning!!!! I so enjoy looking at all your containers and your beautiful home! You really should join us on the coleus forum... you will soon be as addicted as all of us.

Yes, oxalis is a bulb. The first time I ordered them and took a look at them, I thought they were a grub worm or something like that. LOL They are about 1/2" to 1" long and have a funny ribbing to them. I just love them for a cheap way to add some luscious color!!! Around here, if I were to buy a small pot of oxalis I would pay around $4.00, which I find outrageous considering that the bulbs are 25 for less than $10.00.

Thanks Brinda...

I'm really excited about my latest Caladiums that I planted exactly 1 month ago today. About 1/2 have popped up in this bed and every day it's a bunch of new ones. I thought I would wait until they came up before I start putting other plants like Coleus, etc..

So far so good though. I love the Miss Muffet as well as the Rosebuds...Heck, I love them all! Galaxy and Pink Symphonys are taking a little longer, but that's okay - they're starting to poke they're little heads up! I can't wait for these front beds to fill in...it's going to look great!

Bill, you were 100% right about the "Pink Symphony" caladiums...they sure do look like "Thai Beauty"! They're taking a little longer to come up, but I've got them in total shade. Thanks again!

Kat,

They're looking good!!! I especially like that Rosebud. That's one of my favorites. Like you though I like them all.
Let me know if that Pink Symphony keeps that green in it or if it goes away. I got my Pink Symphony from a different farm this year then I normally do and I want to see if it stays true or if it reverts. That green in it makes me think it's reverting

I should have some real nice pictures in a couple of months. I bought (60) 17 qt. pots and (15) 1 gal. pots from Walmart the other day. I'm planting some real nice Jumbo's of all the varieties I have Jumbo's in and the rest will be be the best Grade #1 bulbs I have. With the Thai's I'm planting I should have about 70 varieties growing this year. I'm planting them nice and full so they'll make a real nice display in a couple of months. I'm planning on hiring a professional photographer to come out and take pictures of every one of them. I absolutely love the domestic varieties but these different Thai's that are out there are really getting my attention. I have about 15 different ones now and I'm looking to get more. The coloring in some of them is un-believable!!! I am very seriously considering carrying them(the Thai's) next year along with about a dozen more domestic varieties too.

hi all, just passing by. haven't had time to post pics but I wanted to say that 75% or more of my caladiums from last year returned. Bill, how can that be? Are you selling magic bulbs? That is the first time they have returned like that for me. I will see one or two, but nothing like this year. BTW, I'm not complaining, lol.

I wasn't too thrilled with thais I bought 2-3 years ago, but Bill if you carry them, I will try them again.

No, there's nothing magical about them. It helps when you're planting Top Quality bulbs though!!
Plus you didn't have a real bad winter as far as freezing goes. That definitely helps!!

Port Charlotte, FL(Zone 10a)

Hey Bill! What can we all say? Man...You've got great Bulbs!!! After seeing my last years plantings coming up so well, I just had to order more. Like I said, I can't wait for this entry planting to fill out - It looks pretty good though after just a month. Unlike my other areas, it's not sun-challenged and they all mix so well with the tropical plants I already have. I also planted them close, which I think makes a big difference. (I'm learning!). LOVE IT!

Last week I ordered 8 thai plants (4 varieties - 2 of each) ...They look amazing in the photo's, but expensive! These ones are going to be put in pots...Such different colors like chartreuse and purple. The varieties I ordered were - 'Hok Long', 'Leung Pa Li Chart', 'Moung Mon Kol' and 'Vi Marn Mek' ????? (Yes...it's all thai to me!) We'll see!

I sure hope things work out and you carry these exotics next year...They look amazing!

Kat,

I planted the same ones as you with the exception of the Moung Mon Kol. I have 15 Thai's(I think) potted up. I would absolutely love to carry them next year. They're just so expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been emailing back and forth with a grower in Thailand and this guy thinks his bulbs are worth there weight in gold... Literally!!!

These are my Marie Moir from last year, making a return debut. They are the showiest plants!

and here is another bed that has caladiums from last year as well as some planted this year. It's a festival of color.

Shitzu and Bill are totally responsible for my being in love w/ caladiums. Y'all ck out the new coop.

Oh Vossner! They're absolutely Gorgeous!!! (Your Marie's look so much better than mine, but I've got them in such a sunny place X!)

And Bill is totally responsible for my Caladium Addiction! Hehehe!

When I was out planting my new bulbs this year in the front of my house, I thought I would poke a few in the planters nearby...

I think Caladiums go with everything!

Bill: I got my 4 varieties of Thai's...They're very small bulbs aren't they? I think the Thai beauties were very small also. These came potted in 2" pots and they are starting to sprout.

When you really think about It...it's truly amazing what comes out of a Caladium bulb!

Kat,

The Thai Beauty bulbs are the biggest of the bunch. I planted a few varieties that had bulbs the size of a pencil eraser. I crack up every time I see them. Yes, it is amazing what comes out of them.
I have a Thai Beauty coming up that has a darker pink color to it. I'll get some pics with my new camera.

i've been meaning to post new pictures of last years plants from bill. to give you an idea of size, there are three plastic pots, 7"h x 9"w and originally planted with 4 bulbs each. Miss Muffet in two of them and the one in the middle is Miss Muffet and Gingerland. they popped up early this year and have been beautiful ever since.

this shot is the same but just a little farther away. they are almost as tall as the Alpinia to the left. some of them have developed some dark green birthmark type spots instead of the small freckles but each leaf that opens is more interesting than the last!

Those are gorgeous Track! I'm finding also that the second year offspring can be very different from the original bulbs planted.

Have you been to the new Caladium thread yet? There's some great new photo's...

All of mine are STILL not planted! Drought has taken its toll on some of them, but I do have some pots that are doing well!
