June Flowers Are Bustin' Out All Over - cont. from May

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - it's on one side of the pool and the Iris is in the adjacent side.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

I would think victor's gardening would be therapy enough!! That rose is beautiful. I can't wait until next year when I can have roses in my new garden bed, if I ever get it done! I'm getting lots of ideas from your pics. Probably too many ideas - there's not that much room.

It certainly is therapy - until about this time of year when it's time to take a break. By early June I find myself not liking it as much and then I know it's time to shut down until Fall.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Victor - sit back and enjoy what you've planted and the beauty that surrounds you!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Eleanor - all I have left is some sale bulbs and a bit more mulch. Then I'm done. Happy to have received about 2.5" of rain!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Victor, that rose is breathtaking! Nice work! Did you get your hammock out? Is the fresh lemonade ready? I'll be right over to enjoy the view.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I love your rose, Pure Poetry, Victor. I bought The Poet for DH, because he is a poet. A squirrel chewed off the first blossom - so I am still waiting to see the bloom (supposed to be yellow).

I am going to look up Pure Poetry - if it also has a strong fragrance, it may be the next rose I buy!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It has a nice fragrance. It's also no longer offered by J & P, where I got it some years back.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

great pics! Love the rose, 3 faces of Victor. Grams, that iris is incredible! What a color combo!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I like that Pure Poetry too!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Nice rose Victor.

I have some new ones today, Fanfare gaillardia - this plant has gotten huge now.

Forgot the actual name of this, something like Fleabane azure.

not an exciting pic for most people, dahlia flower buds

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Wow, you have dahlia buds already?! When did you plant your tubers? I've got some just poking throught the ground now. I can't wait to see yours bloom. Everything you have is beautiful! Love that galliardia.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice Al. I don't have Gaillardia yet. I'm not crazy about hot colors. I understand some are closer to Burgundy. I have to look for that.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Victor, your gardens are beautiful. Your color and composition sense is wonderful.

I love deep, rich colors against a dark green background, but that's just me. I'm hot about hot colors.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Harper. I can take them in isolation but in general I don't like to see too much of them. To me they are not soothing / relaxing.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I like hot colors plenty. Burgundy gaillardia is a dark red, I don't think I would call it hot - maybe fantabulous.

Harper - most of my dahlias were started inside around 4/7 and went in the ground 5/20. Here's a homeless one still in it's pot.

Great photos and plants, Al.

Victor! You're the one with the hot orange iris!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Al, I sure am looking forward to dahlia buds. my plants are doing well, except for one that I knocked the shoot loose (about 80%) when I carried it outside. I left the stem on and planted it anyway. do you think it will grow?

ps I like the color on your Fleabane

Victor/or current resident, love 'Pure Poetry'. I never cared for orange flowers, but some roses, especially the blended colors like this one, are exquisite.

today's iris is 'Swingtown'

edit to add: sorry this is fuzzy. I have to stop taking pics at 6am when I'm tired out from planting and my fingers are frozen

a very tiny dianthus in my rock garden...'Rachel' (DGD's name)

Al, your homeless dahlia looks happy as can be. I still have a few tubers in the garage that I have to take out and see how well they fared over the winter.

Victor, I can appreciate the desire to be relaxed in the garden. Gardening is all about relaxation! The hot colors don't get to me. I just painted a board for a swing bright red. I think I'm going to paint a chinese dragon on it once I find the time. Does anybody know how to tie knots for a rope swing? It's all ready. All I have to do is tie the ropes...

Jan, beautiful dianthus and iris!! Try taking the close up without the flash. You might get truer color.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Beautiful plants, everyone! Really impressive.

My Dahlia tubors did not survive winter. Many were small from seeds Al gave me, but a couple of big ones too.
6-7 yrs ago when I had dahlias, I never had this problem. I kept them im the basement in perlite. Could my basement have been too warm Al?

This goe back up this thread a couple of days, but instead of calling him DaVictor, could we call him Vicid?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds like a prescription med.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Jan - it's a wait and see I guess if it regrows. I agree on using the macro setting(no flash) to help with colors.

Dave - did they rot or dry out?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Dried out.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice Iris's Jan, and "Rachel" is a very sweet little flower as I'm sure the real one is too!
Gone for 2 days and everything started blooming! Isn't that the way it always works out?
Here's my Silvermound.....it's only the first of june and it's already taken up most of it's alotted space! I need to divide it before it smothers the surrounding plants. Dose anyone know when the best time is to divide one of theses???

This Iris opened yesterday or the day before, guessing by the number of blooms.

This is an old fashioned Iris, how old I'm not sure......but at least as old as me. It was at my Grandparents camp when I was a little girl, I took it from camp and brought it to my house in 1969-1970. When my Dad died, Mom sold the house. I dug it up before she did and brought it here. It's still alive and and I have twice as many now. It's not the prettiest Iris, but it's my oldest and has the best memories attached.

This is one of my beds, mostly Iris's. Notice in the bottom left corner the bare spot? Did you also notice it's just about the width of a truck tire? Yup, thats where DH backed into it with his Toyota Tundra. The Iris's & Daylilies that he ran over bounced back like it was nothing!! Amazingly tough plants!!!
