Boy I'm in trouble. I like spending money on gardening AND clothes. Good thing I don't have a husband. Maybe that's why. hmmmm lol

Anne

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

The rain just pounded all my cuttings. I might have to start again. Sigh.....

Cypress, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL Anne!

I thought we were going to get hit too. I rushed home and sprinkled epson salt on nearly everything but the back lawn. It's been an hour...I'm sure it will hit right when I least expect it.

Would anyone like some hideous orange daylilies? I just have to get those things out of my front yard around the little oak that is growing there. They don't have a long blooming life and I don't want to waste my bloom time on something that blooms for only a couple of weeks and then has to be cut off. I would rather plant something else there as it is squarely in the middle of the front yard that isn't all that big to begin with. They are going whether any of you want them or not (if I can get in good enough shape to dig them) or I'll kill them some way. I really don't care for day lilies at all but these are just not pretty. The scapes came up so long. I'm ready to get the hoe or a blow torch after them.
BTW, I'll be bringing some food to the meet - don't know what yet. I'm an old fashion cook and don't do quick foods - unless it comes from a good bakery, etc.

Manic, I've got you down for some of the LA Iris and the Thai Basil seeds. Can you root me a cutting of your clerodendrum, please?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Way to sell those orange daylilies, Ann! That made me laugh!

I have some grotesque elphant ears and some morbid mexican petunias. Any takers?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Aunt Anne - may I have some fleabane and delphinium?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

I'm in the market for a BLACK EE, if anyone has a tiny cutting.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Gymgirl, I don't have a black one, but I've got green ones that I've tried everything short of nuclear attack to get rid of. They just keep sprouting and I've been pulling them up ever since I moved in 4 years ago! You want green ones???

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

EEs are also on my list of undesirables. Once you have them, you have them forever. I have an area that the previous owners put EEs in and there's no way they are going away. They thrive on neglect and flooding. Any takers?

Ann

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Okay, call me slow, but what is an "EE"?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Elephant Ear didi.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Ahh..... thank you.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Sure thing kn i'll pot them up tonight.

I found Ann's selling mechanism funny also - its along the lines of when people say, " Try this! It's disgusting!" Nonetheless, I'm sure someone will take them if you dig them up. :)

Are the mexican petunias the long kind or the dwarf ones? I like the dwarf that grow in clumps. If it is those I would take any that Manic doesn't need.

I edited my post back up aways if any want to re visit. BTW this is the mischief maker who knocked over the seed box.

Oh Boy! Someone wants Katie Ruella? I'll start digging today. They are the small ones but I also have the tall ones. Both are the purple. Easy to grow and definitely a "share" plant. W/the amt I have I should be able to furnish all of Harris Cty w/a good quantity.

Ann

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Uhhhhh, no thanks on the green EEs. I have a HUGE philodendron growing in a whiskey barrel on the patio. DH propped it up with a lift, but it's gorgeous, and the focal point of the patio corner. It's contained in the barrel, but actually needs a larger container. I'm hoping to do the same with a Black EE in a large container in the shade...I have the teeniest, tiniest cutting of one that I am desperately trying to keep alive. It keeps trying, but then something happens. Too much sun and it fries. I forget to water it and it wilts...

Knolan,
Could I get a yellow esperanza, too?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll certainly try a cutting for you. the esperanzas I took last week got a beating from that storm the other day a I don't think they'll make it. Do over!

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have altheas (Rose of Sharon)? If so, I would like some large cuttings 8-12" long to start. They can be singles or doubles - whatever.

Ann

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ann, I don't have any altheas, but I do have a Confederate Rose, another member of the mallow family, that I'd be happy to get a cutting of for you. It's a double pink. Here's a pic of the bloom.

I dug up all my altheas and burned them. I was so tired of fighting the bugs and beetles that always kept the blooms from opening. I've never had problems with them at any other location, but I had two different types here and they just weren't happy.

Ann,

I don't have an althea but my neighbor does. She and I trade all the time and I'm sure she wouldn't mind me getting a cutting for you. It's pink.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a white althea, but I don't know how to do cuttings. If you tell me how, I'll do my best for you. :-)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm up too late.

Marylyn, you can try this (try on at least three cuttings and pray one will take):

Take about an 8" - 10" cutting on softwood at a node (right under a forming bud), cut it at an angle, dip the bottom 2" in a root hormone powder and put it in a 4" pot of good soil/potting mix with perlite. Keep it in partial shade and keep it moist for about two weeks (I water every day). You'll know in a few weeks what took and what did not.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

I've just never had the trouble w/altheas that y'all describe. I love them and find them trouble free. I'll take all the cuttings I can get - no matter what color or whether single or double. And I would love a cutting from the confederate rose. I find all mallows are easy to grow from cuttings. Now just watch - after I've said all that I'll probably have all kinds of troubles. "Never say never". Thanks so much for the responses. Chocolate all around for all of you!

Ann

edited to say I would love a loquat baby.

Bookworm28, can I get a black cherry tomato cutting? Thanks

New Braunfels, TX(Zone 8b)

I'd like to come (thank you GymGirl for the Dmail heads up!).
I live in New Braunfels - so I'll get a map from mapquest (unless someone wants to come pick me up..... hahaha).
Is there going to be enough room? Looks like there are so many already.

Not sure what I have to trade. If my garlic is ready by then, I'll bring some of that. I only grow veggies right now (though I put in pomagranites and blackberries this winter). I have a Texas Everbearing fig tree I could have cuttings ready from by that time (if anyone is interested dmail me). I saved Daikon seeds this year - so I'll bring some of those if anyone wants some.

I didn't see anyone saying they'd bring fruit, so I'll bring that, okay?

The furthest I've been since I moved to Texas is Plantersville (to the Renaissance Festival), so this will be a fun adventure in driving (last time I had navigators - this time I'll be alone).

(edited because I can't spell...)
