Everyone needs milkweed! Monarch hotel anyone? Digigirl - I probably have the yellow variety, but could also be the orange/yellow since I've had both shooting out seeds. My guess in looking at the leaves is that they are the yellow. (don't know the names - sorry.)
I have pink porterweed - but I can't see it from my window to watch the hb's! It's a really interesting blossom, isn't it? My h'bird magnet and a nearly year-round bloomer is a yellow cestrum. I'll root cuttings for anyone wanting them. Warning, though - it gets huge in time.
July 21st West Houston Meet
That cestrum is beautiful. Is it a perennial? May I have a cutting?
I had better be careful or I'm going to end up with more than I have room for. Hey, that's what hubby's for.....helping me extend the beds. Heeheehee.
I bought the lantana for the butterflies. :) The pink and yellow remind me of visiting my grandma when I was little. The scent reminds me of playing on her porch... I will certainly try to root some for you, Kristi. Like I said if this cutting of the texas olive doesn't take I will try again. I am determined to get one of those in either the front or back yard.
I would love a milkweed and porterweed cutting. Trying to encourage butterfiles and hummingbirds.
Becky
Oh, the purple would be perfect, Knolan! Purple is my favorite!
Edit mine to include the coffee grinds and filters.
Also, does anyone need any pots, cause I have 'em coming out the wazoo. The 14" black ones and a collection of 4" & 6" smaller ones. Also, 5-gallon white buckets. I could just bring what I have and first come, first served?
I'm "gonna need a bigger boat..."(exerpt from the movie "Jaws," circa 1980-something...)
So far, here's my list:
Coffee grinds & filters (IloveJesus99, crowellli, flowerette, knolan)
5 gallon bucket(s) (Manic)
I got asparagus fern coming out the wazoo, too!
And some red canna lilies (Manic)
Sago palm puppies (shortstuff430)
Ferns (common Boston, I think?)
Mother-In-Law Tongue
Hens & Chicks (will root on request) - bookworm8
Variegated Ginger (will divide upon request) (AuntAnne)

Gymgirl, I would love a sago puppy! DH calls them 'pyscho' palms. ROFL That is the only thing he wants in our yard. except if it were up to him that's ALL he would put ALL over the front yard. lol So needless to say we haven't put any in due to irreconcilable differences?
I will also bring something in the form of food, just have to figure out what. Maybe a pasta salad?
I got my co-op ferns today. Yayy! If I end up with too many - which seems likely.. I went a little crazy when I was ordering - I'll have ferns and heucheras to share. I'll get back with you all about them tomorrow. :-)
I'm not sure what I'm bringing food-wise yet, but I don't like wine so I'll bring Dr. Pepper to share for those of us with more refined taste. (Ha ha!) ;-)
Marylyn, I'll have plenty of bottled water and a variety of sodas, including DP, iced down for us, so don't worry about bringing something non-alcoholic. I'm still doing the chemo thing, so not supposed to have any alcohol (I do cheat every now and then with a glass of wine though).
Have you had good luck with heucheras here in Houston. I love them and was planning on putting some in this year, but the lady at the nursery I usually use said they didn't carry them because they weren't that well suited to our climate. I may have to try them anyway.
Ooo.. I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't tried them before, so let's hope she was wrong.
Ok, I'll scratch the DP and figure out something else to bring. :-)
Marylyn, sorry, didn't mean you couldn't bring DP. I thought you were worried that there wouldn't be anything non-alcoholic. I'm goofy sometimes, just ignore me. My family does most of the time. LOL
LOL No problem, crowelli... I was being mostly goofy when I mentioned it. I'll be happy to drink your DP. ;-) I'll bring a salad and some brownies.
Crowelli - I'm so sorry to hear you're going through chemo. I had no idea. My prayers are with you.
Cestrum cuttings and my list will be started as soon as I get back from vacation, knolan. Becky - you might like it for the bf's and hummingbirds - it is the most visited bush in my yard. I'll post a picture of it next week so folks can see if they like it.
Crowelli - been through it myself - I've got you on my prayer list for sure. I too used to sneak a glass of wine here and there..
Nancy
This sounds like a lot of fun! Can I come with my DH? He's my plant wrangler and all around good guy.
Of course you can come, Ceejay!
I think this is really going to be fun. We need to try and talk Fly into coming too!
Bookworm, if you will tell me your secret for the yellow cestrum, I will try to duplicate it for the red cestrum.
Nancy, the Cestrum looks pretty. I would love one.
Does anyone have a bleeding heart 'dicentra spectabilis'? I bought one at Wal-Mart and then realized it was the Glory Bower one and not the one with the pretty pink or even white hearts. I'm not sure how easy/hard it would be to root, but I would LOVE one. And if anyone would like the Glory Bower one, I'd be happy to try to root it.
Knolan may I have some of the following:
Golden Rain tree
Loquat
Bat Face cuphea
and Bulbine (any color)?
Gymgirl the variegated ginger, plz?
My list (partial at this time)
Ice plants (pink, yellow, lavender/purple)
4o'clocks yellow, yellow/white, pink (seedlings)
Iris (purple) unnamed variety, blooms 2xs a year
Blackberry vines
datura (purple swirl) seedlings
kalanchoe (dk pink, lt pink, yellow, red)
Seed list (partial)
Castor bean tree
Yellow butterfly bush
Will edit with seed list later.

Gotcha down, Anne!
AuntAnne, I'd love to have the Iris and the Datura!
k, done and done digi
Crowellli, it looks like we may hit the 20 mark. We've got 18 on the list so far, with a couple of "my friend / man / wife, etc. may come along" not counted. You might want to look into that clubhouse! I'm willing to pitch in for that, if there's a fee.
If that doesn't work out, my community may have one also. Let us know!
Valerie
You all have great fun!!!

Ceejay - may I have a nun's orchid and a cardamom ginger? Purdy please?
Aw shucks! Shure thang!
Smockette - my secret to yellow cestrum? Put it in the ground. Honestly... I put it in 5 years ago when I had no time to garden and it is huge. Maybe the other colors are harder? I'll do my best to root a bunch of it.
I also have Dr. Seuss brugmansia - as many cuttings as anyone wants.
Yellow milkweed seedlings;
I'll start my official list when I get back from vacation in a week.
Conversation gone.

I almost bought a cestrum yesterday but held back because of our swap. It was really hard!
Bookworm....I'd love to have a Dr. Seuss cutting. I started one in the bubbler and it rooted fine but when I moved it to a pot and went out of town, it died from lack of water. That and I dug up two of my other brugs for my mom today so I need another one! I have several varieties that I rooted in the bubbler, 'snow cone' and 'big yella' left but I don't think they'll be big enough to offer cuttings for the swap. Next year, though!
I did buy a pink porterweed yesterday so ya'll can scratch me off the list for that one (maybe it'll get big enough for me to offer cuttings as well) and I was given a baby papaya on Friday (what luck?)!
I also bought some pink jacobinia's.....have no idea if they will root but I'm happy to try!
Gymgirl...you are so funny!
Gone.

Ok, we all seem to really like the sweets so how about I bring some cupcakes?
On the sweets, I never met anything chocolate I didn't like!
I have a huge Miss Anna brug that I have some cuttings trying to root in case anyone wants one. I also have bat face cuphea, cigar plant, coral vine, plumbago (white and blue), duranta, and angel wing begonia. I have some seed of vitex, pink cosmos, coreopsis, coral vine, black pearl pepper, cypress vine (red), and thai basil. Also have a couple of plumerias if anyone is interested, I'll whack a few cutting and try to have them ready. Have a lot of other stuff, but this is what I know will root fairly easily. I also have some dark blue Louisiana Iris that need to be divided. If anybody wants some of those, let me know ahead of time and I'll have them dug up and ready. Pictures of most of my plants are shown in my journal, so take a look. If there's something I haven't listed here, I'm willing to try rooting anything I've got, just let me know.

can make cuttings and root for TRADE if notified way ahead of time, some plants are pretty small so I may not be able to make a whole bunch of them, some are large and there wouldn't be an issue:

Manic, what size of pots are you needing? Need to know soonest as I am in Indy, flying home Wed & if they are not already gone, have pots that we are pitching @ the Farm where I work. Don't think they are 1g but larger. Like I said, if they are not gone since I left last Wed. LMK
I would like a red passiflora, black knight, snail vine, persian shield, & a brug. I would be interested in any salvias that you could root. Not trying to be greedy so any would be appreciated.
Gone.

Me three on the Persian Shield if at all possible pretty please!!!
I'd love a cutting of a pink or pink and white brug if one of y'all that have one and can root me a cutting. I've posted most of what I have to trade, but if there's something specific you're looking for, check my journal and I'll try to get you one of anything I have rooted.
Gone.

Got it GymGirl. I'll stick his little bottom in some soil today!
Have any of y'all seen the new daylily "Rainbow Candy" that Park Seeds has for sale? My goodness, it's gorgeous. I've just ordered a lot from Oakes, but when I saw these, I had to have them, of course. My DH hasn't complained so far, but I've got my excuse ready just in case. I plan to say "But look at all the money I save us by wearing gardening clothes all the time. Daylilies are cheaper than nicer clothes." That should work, don't y'all think? I've got some gorgeous daylilies, but none are big enough to divide yet. We may have to do this again next year! It can become the annual "West Houston Meet".
Sounds like a plan to me!
I think the "plants cheaper than clothes" argument should work very well! If not, take him out and show him how much clothes cost!
