I may need to check out that forum even if he is 31. LOL
I need new skills. One day I want to come back to value village. I got some beautiful clother for my DGDs there cheap. nice dress' size 4 1.40 and 2.60. And one that has a velvet top and the bottom is lace with sparles on it. Beautiful for christmas for 3.90. Their prices were great.
July 21st West Houston Meet
Oh yes, I love that place! I got a wonderful formal dress that seemed like it was made for me for 4.00...mind you it was crushed velvet and form fitting..looked like something you'd get at dillards for 300$ ....
I'll have to look for that forum...they actually got to go spend a nite with mommy and have been great since then.. also had a discussion with her about telling them she'll see them soon on the phone... i told her don't tell them that..just talk to me and we'll arrange it and it will be a great surprise when it actually happens ...that is better than telling her its gonna, and then it doesn't..such a let down is disturbing for someone so young especially... I'd love to meet up for dinner sometime... we are on a schedule though so we'd have to fit that in at the right time :D
This week I'm going to introduce them and the kitten :)
The garden is loving the rain too, Kailea is taking great interest in watering helping with the plants too , so nice to have a good little helper.
Kailea is going to love gardening when she grows up and she will remember Aunt Lisa forever! You are earning "stars in your crown" - I believe. The little ones and the kitten will bond - just make sure to enforce the "rules". Little ones often don't understand they aren't stuffed animals. What a great experience of learning empathy and the love of outdoors.
Stay firm with mom. These beautiful little ones deserve structure from her - you are providing them structure each day - I applaud your efforts!
My daughter used to go to Value Village throughout high school - she could buy clothes and shoes on her own - she used to come home and tell me "I got ALL this for $5.00" I was always amazed and we had a clothing budget...
Keep up with what you need for yourself as well. All those who care for children need to care for themselves as well. I speak as a parent of grown kids - and I know that now more than ever.
God speed, aunt Lisa!
Aww :) Well, we've been learning about fish (we have 4 tanks inside and two small ponds outside). Also turtles, tadpoles, lizards, gulf coast toads ~ all our gardening friends that we don't eat!!!! They re-met my boyfriends cat earlier today and were very gentle with him, that was the indicator for time to meet Joy Kitty. Joy Kitty is pretty shy too and about healed up from her orphaning encounter with the dog. Oh, and she's a good hider and loves to cuddle. I just hope she doesn't abandon my bed for the girls beds haha.
Oh definately taking care of me too!! Going to the gym in the morning (they have childcare for 2 hours- enough time to work out and take a shower!) and the women's work out area has a video screen showing the childrens area, so I feel ok about it.
Really though, with value village I have to watch it coz I'll go ubercrazy thinking I don't have to watch it...although I did get the lil ones a new wardrobe (clothes that fit!) each and learning toys and videos and bedding for like 80$...that's pretty good considering how much stuff it was.
I wondered where those two Sagos ended up...Now, I'll have to come visit them in Austin...
As I remember,...I had to hunt you down at end of swap to ask for the two. Then you tried to talk me into taking two more out of your truck! You come visit anytime. Just make sure you bring your large crockpot so we can make greens! I keep hunting for someone who'll eat them with me.....that recipe makes a lot. So far, no takers....Don't think they'd be good to freeze, would they?
Good question. I'll bet they would be fine. Would be a nice side dish with a Christmas Goose or Ham. What'cha think - gymgirl?
Of course, a little rosemary & Grand Manier for the Goose, duck, turkey, or chicken - and some Jack Daniels, honey, and black pepper for the ham.
Are we on to something here?
Bigbubbles, I'm impressed that you got all that into the truck. With the encouragement from this group, you may need a trailer next time. LOL
I'd have gotten a lot more on that truck if someone had distracted DH while we were at Wayne's!
bb
Too funny, I'll remember and assume that responsibility next time.
Ok, Bubba, I hear yah! I'm actually a fried turkey kinda girl (spicy seasoning).
Am I hearing a holiday gathering brewing here? Let's think carefully on this, as so many of us social creatures have so many company parties to attend. How about something like a "Christmas in October" thingy?
I'll bring a 20lb fried turkey, if someone in Austin will make the greens recipe......Austin?
Oh,
and candied sweet potatoes are THE BOMB next to the greens....
Now..... I make sweet potatoes with praline sauce......even DH's yankee relatives will eat mine. ( They'd never tasted fresh yams before.) And I'll make the greens too!
So this will be Octoberfest?????
Well.... That could be fun.
December 23rd is our annual customer appreciation and Christmas party at Bubba's. Had 20-30 # roast bison, and up to 23 different veggies last year. Other "regulars" have brought desserts, pasta, taco roll, etc. Usually have 30-75 drop-ins. Beer tastings, and lots of good conversations - a lot like our recent "garden party". Y'all are certainly invited.
Am so excited - when I opened the front blinds this morning I saw the "Yard of the Month" sign in front. Can't believe my little hodge-podge of a yard won, but I'm excited. Will post a photo later after I pinch myself again :-)
My first attempt at a hyperlink - hope you find the photos here.

(PS - I'm in a different "neighborhood" than rjuddharrison. Didn't want anyone to think that I was competing anywhere near that caliber).

Janet
Congratulations. Your house and yard is beautiful.
Wonderful! Bravo!
Austin, you're good...I LIKE IT!
Ok, Bubba, so what's the plan? Are we joining in on your holiday event and bringing dishes? Are we gonna gather together separately (an oxymoron?)
All I know is, I can't WAIT to eat somebody else's greens and ham hocks with some sweet potatoes!
Hope it's okay that I continued this thread into another last night. It looked like it was getting too long and I still had a comment or two!
do ya think this thread is getting long enough with 664 replies.............Dave just took a thread off that did this....................look in Dave's forum..............pretty much prevents dial up people from participating.................
Gessie, a new thread has already been started. Marilyn posted the link to it just above your post.
The thread that was removed was intentionally trying to get longer and longer (according to Dave). That's a whole different thing alltogether.
Janet
I'm a dial up & ask for this thread to 'be continued on a new thread' way back about 350 but I'm still pulling this one up fr home.
This swap & the after-math is worth the wait! I was there!!!!!!!!!
:~)
From what I read it had oer 3000 posts on the one tha got pulled. That is long. lol
I am interested. Live in Rice Univ. area. Never been to one before. Just started gardening. Tell me where to go and what to bring.
Ann
Ann,
I was also reading this as it popped up as a recent post, but this was last year's meet. I do believe there is one (maybe this Saturday!) in the Heights. Check other postings.
Not THIS Saturday, but NEXT Saturday. Different thread though.
wow, glad you wrote. I was going to show up this Saturday.
