July 21st West Houston Meet

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

What great pics! I didn't bring my camera (same senior moment as Bubba's) so I'm so glad you all did such a great job.

Unique - I'll ID the two ladies on the front porch... that's Dee and SAS. If you got any of those huge cactus from the back of the truck - it came from SAS and her dh. Dee helped me get them in my car. Dee went home with a pair of spiderman slippers as a trade! (that's not a plant!!).

I think we ought to meet as a reunion at Bubba's for a Sunday breakfast. You should have heard him describe the breakfast menu!!! He cooks it all, too. And Linda helps out on Sundays, too.

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Smockette,

Uh, Oh!! I apologize for posting the wrong picture of your Mr. Smock. Don't kick me when I arrive at Tree Search!

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Bubba, thanks for the address! Good idea, Nancy. I'm ready when you are.

Missouri City, TX

Uh, oh! :0)

I only have a 3 foot grill - service will be in waves.

What a good idea, Nancy! Count me in for a breakfast reunion at Bubba's! (Can't do it this weekend but I'm free after that).

Watch out, Bubba.....we're coming!!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 10a)

Wow Ya'll - (I'm finally back at a computer-with a real keyboard) - who knew how long and deep this thread would get :D I'm truly grateful everything turned out so well. I was worried I dropped my organizational ball because of what's going on at home, although from the looks and feel of everything nothing was really missing. We all had a blast and feel even more blessed to know such great people. Randy & Brians place was so Zen. I can't remember the last time I've enjoyed such food and company either. Thanks to everyone :D It was really nice to be around such encouraging laid back folks... also thanks for taking and sharing pictures

Houston, TX(Zone 10a)

I'm still hungry for breakfast after a particular conversation... i might have to try my hand at some omelets too ;)

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

Randy a big thanks - had an absolutely wonderful time. Your place is so nice. Wonderful food, conversation, great people and a great learning experience. Who knew all those plants existed - like the albino banana and the red plastic star flower plant. Am so happy to have met you all. ..........Lynne

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Manic - you got the ball rolling and I for one am so impressed with how great you are with those little ones. They are very blessed to have you. I speak for all - we are glad it turned out so well for you - since you got it all going!
Bubba - if we all show up for breakfast at the same time - you know we are laid back enough to "wait our turn!" And we should be able to give you enough of a head's up!

Houston, TX(Zone 10a)

:D

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Lynne - so glad to meet you, too. Next time I go to Buchanan's - or those other great Heights places - I'll dmail to see if you or anyone close wants to go, too. Of course, I "NEED" NOTHING for a VERY LONG time.... ( but when did that matter....) Your cookies were very, very good!
Nancy

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

If Bubba needs any help, I can sling a spatula! LOL.

I'm still reeling over how much fun we all had.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

Bookworm (and anyone else) - would love to do the nurseries - I usually make 1 or 2 each week (Another Place and Time, Buchannans or Joshua. Sometimes Arbor Gate. and now there's Zone 9 Tropicals). Most of the time I don't buy anything, but it so fun and educational to look. Please dmail if you come and we'll meet up.......Lynne

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

where oh where is Randy??????????????????????

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Lynne - you can show me Another Place and Joshua's - not been to those. If I lived closer to those and Buchanan's it would be real trouble... Arbor Gate is a great field trip - but very worthwhile. My butterfly gardens thrive because of them and Buchanan's. Kristi and those out SW can give a great field trip to Enchanted Forest in Booth. I'd love to go back there. So many garden shops and so little time!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Randy?? Are you still recovering??? Did we do you in?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

It was all so great. I really liked spending time with all of you. There was so many interesting thing going on.

Can't believe kipper is being so quiet after my last remark. He is so funny. I hate his neck got to hurting. Thanks kip for the hug when I was crying. All of you are so awesome. I had so many great things said to me for changing my mind and deciding to come. I am so glad I did. Bubba sorry I missed breakfast. Dmail me the directions as I think my pain dr is off 59 somewhere. And since I will be out and about I may just stop in.

Lynn it was great talking to you on the back porch. Dstartz I love you sharing your curly lirope with me. I have never seen many things that cute. And thanks for the talk. I miss Dennis so much.

And to everyone I may not have listed I feel like I have known you all forever. I sure brought home plants I have to have but need like another hole in my head. And I have alot of those. But what a way to get a plant fix all of us and spend time with the greatest people on earth.

Smockette I had a blast going to the resale shops. Can't wait to show the girls their stuff. When are we going back? Those prices were great. I still want those pillow shams. They really didn't care to sell them did they.

Can't wait to do it again.

wayne I loved the personal tour with smockette.

Gymgirl I loved the greens and ham hocks and the company was great.

I am so glad I came.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm wondering if Randy's home computer is on the fritz again. I know he had about threee days off and he still hasn't replied to my dmail I sent Sunday so I'm thinking since he's not at work that his home computer must be messed up. Oh Randy where are you????

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

He's probably still trying to re-coop fr having this group there! lol
Or else his is still trying to clean up the left-overs! I never saw so much chocolate left over. Guess gardeners are a lot like kids...eyes are too big for their stomachs. lol

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It was my pleasure! We all had a great time! Can't wait to do it again.
I slept for the last two days. I used the plant swap as a timeline to get several projects done, that no one probably would have noticed, but for me...it gave me a deadline and a goal..and am happy they are done!

I had the last two days off, and am headed back to work now!

Randy,
I don't know if you received my d-mail or not, but I left my green, wooden-armed lawn chair there. My name and number are marked on it. Sorry, it's my fault! Whatever is the easiest way for you, please let me know so that I can pick it up wherever. Someone else also left a few items but can't remember who that was.

If anyone else happened to mistakenly take it home, please let me know.
Thanks a lot,
Carol

ILoveJesus99,
That's TOO funny ROTFLMBO!!!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I have FANTASTIC news, everyone. Plantlady is out of ICU and she finally has received a bouquet from us. Perhaps the ugly letter I wrote to the hospital administration dind't fall on closed ears.

I'm so glad that she is finally recovering. Keep your prayers coming!

Good for you, knolan!!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Great news, knolan! I'll be keeping her in my thoughts.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Great news about Ann! I'm so happy for her. Thanks for taking care of the flowers. I hope she got a lift in spirits from that. Great work, Kristi.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Great news! This is definitely more than she bargained for!!! Bless her heart! Maybe this will be the end of her health problems for a while!!!
Ann, you get well!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Kristi! I was supposed to bring you money for those flowers and I totally forgot. I'm so sorry! I didn't realize the flowers hadn't been delivered. Thanks for checking up on Ann for us all. :-)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

The whole situation was off, and I'm just grateful she finally received the flowers. She was in ICU when they were delivered so, I couldn't ask anyone to chip in. that was my fault for not finding out the facts. What troubled me was that the flowers were definitely delivered but didn't even reach anyone in the family. I checked with the florist and they had been delivered. The only other thing to do was email hospital administration. I did and received no repsonse. I know some folks who work in hospitals and was told that it was likley that an employee took the bouquet home. That made me mad. I'm hoping that the hospital administration 'bowed up' on the error. Ann's husband sent me an email and let me know that they finally received our bouquet so, I think I need to send a thankyou to the folks I wrote such a nasty note to. I just hoped we could make her smile while she was feeling so down.

Don't worry about chipping in, at this point. You are all my buddies and this was from 'us'. After meeting you all, I know you would all do the same. It takes a village.......

The best news is that she is recovering and we all might get to meet her yet.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Cheers to You, Kristi!

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Kristi,

I would be glad to chip in on the flowers, too. Friends should always be there to help out. :)

Thanks Kristi for the update and the good news, and as always your generosity.

Did I hear an offer to help me with a "special" breakfast, gymgirl?

Oh, and RJ, glad you are discovering all the "left-over" artifacts. The glass dome covered marble cheese server and the two cheese knives were my doing. Thought someone might want some more of those wonderful greens and need some of the crushed chili peguin to "take it up a notch".

What a team!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ahh...will add knives...they must be in the dishwasher...

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Gymgirl:

Hey, thanks for my container (the bucket). It was too shiny and clean to use that terminology. I felt guilty slipping off with it since you took it out of your vehicle, reduced the amount so that I could pick it up, etc. Never have enough of those!

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Randy,

My dh and I are headed your direction in about an hour. Know you are probably working but just wanted to let you know. Don't want to be pepper sprayed or worse by a neighbor when approaching your porch. :) :)

We will be eating dinner in that area, so we are bound to find some interesting restaurant.
Thanks again!
carol

Missouri City, TX

If anyone wants 5 gal buckets let me know - we toss 1-2 / week in the dumpster. I cannot save them for weeks on end, but if I have specific pick-up times, could work something out.

Our place is not unique - any restaurant has the same situation. Check with your favorite "hang-out" or neighborhood place.
