Gym, you muct be Cajun Gurl! I never heard of all that going on with greens and Ham Hocks. lol
Yesterday I went thru Whole Foods and they had a Collard greens slaw. I tasted it, didnt really like it, but I got the concept down ... and I think I can do one that taste a lot better.
Linda Prince, I did not know you could cook. lol you have to do that receipe the next time you come over. :)

Beaumont, TX

ooooooooo thanks gymgirl for the recipe ! Those were out of this world. I'd love to have that corn casserole recipe too smockette. That was deeeeelishus!

Missouri City, TX

Gee, the pictures are great - wish I had brought mine - intended to, but somehow a "senior moment" slipped in.

Thanks for posting.

With all the buzz about the greens (and they were outstanding), and the great sweets, no one mentioned Kristi's salad. I really enjoyed that, and Linda loved the green beans and brisket.

We definitely have some super cooks in the group.

And the wine - how could I forget the wine - oh, maybe because we had so much? - lol.

Thanks again for a wonderful day.

If anyone was disappointed by not making it to Ace Restaurant Supply - there is a place we buy that is friendlier and cheaper - Budget restaurant Supply on Bellaire, north side of the street between Fondren and Gessner - closer to Gessner.

Beaumont, TX

Oh yes wasn't that salad wonderful? There was just so much great food there bubba!

Can I have that recipe too please knolan?

Here I am again. I'm usually the one behind the camera so it seems weird to see photos of myself. HAHAHA Notice the cool cobra on the roof and the beautiful umbrella.

Our wonderful co-host Brian, with Kipper and Karolyn in the background. Kipper and Karolyn kept us all laughing throughout the day.

Brian turned us on to a few great thrift stores that Connie and I hadn't been to.

Oh, you guys! I have made those greens many, many times. NEVER have I enjoyed watching people enjoy them as much as I did yesterday. I am truly amazed and humbled…

RANDY: Ditto what everybody said! You’re the most gracious host!

BRIAN: Using a deep heavy pot, bring 2 to 3 cups Extra Long Grain rice to a boil in approx. 6-8 cups water, to which a splash of olive oil and 2 teaspoons of salt have been added. Start timing for 20 minutes when it reaches a boil. Taste grains at about 18 minutes and test for that ‘crunch.’ Get ready! Strain rice and rinse under cold water. Create a steamer with the colander over the pot. Add 2-3 inches of water in the pot, and make the “hole!” Cover colander with a lid and steam on medium flame for about 2-3 minutes. Grains will pop open and get fluffy! Enjoy!

Bubba: You said words that will take me through the next 10 years of my life! P.S. You have my permission to put “Lily Mae’s Greens” on your menu!

Bookworm8 (Nancy): You remind me so much of the actress who looks like Kathy Bates! You are a true team player, and can be on my team any day!

Our favorite sisters, UniqueTreasures and Maidentheshade, and Kip: Thank you all for affirming my right to protect myself without compromising my faith in God! Kip, those were .22 hollow points, right?

Karolyn: Matthew 11:28-30 & 1 Pet. 3:8-18

Marilyn_Tx: I already told you about your wonderful spirit – thank you for sharing it!

Flowerette: A down home lady I could hang out with any day. Thanks for laughing at my courtship story and sharing yours about the surgeon and the chiropractor!

Digigirl: You are really too cool! Need more time to hang out with you!

BigBubbles: What can I say, except “thank you” for being born in Biloxi, and sharing the Big Muddy, the Gulf Coast, the South…You alone could understand the true depth of the winds and the waves, and share in the fellowship of the suffering. Many wonderful people hear the story and sympathize, but only a heart that was born there can truly feel what was lost... You are a delight -- a “genteel southern lady” who can tell the family story, throw open the “closet,” and offer one a Southern Comfort Mint Julep, without swooning!

Manic Reality: Follow that dream! It’s a brilliant one. Let me know if I can help in any way. The Forum is “Container Gardening.” Look for the papercrete thread by TomTom. There are explicit, detailed instructions.

Who made those brownies: The ones with the caramel?
Who made those brownies: The ones without the caramel?
I had Pepto Bismol for breakfast this morning cause I was left alone last night with those brownies….I can NEVER be left alone with brownies – especially not that many brownies! And if the DH knows what’s good for him, not one of them better be missing when I get home tonight, either…..

DStartz: Set up a rendezvous point for that Magnalite and I’ll meet yah!

Lynn_H: Ditto on the beauty. Such a lady.

Knolan: You are a wonder. I can see you with the little kids and the PTA. Just the perfect person for the invaluable contribution of training up the next generation.

City_Sylvia: I’m Creole -- from cosmopolitan New Orleans…different. All my people from the “country” can cook, except me. I can cook a few recipes really well: Greens & Ham Hocks, Authentic Seafood or Okra Gumbo, and Spaghetti with Meat Sauce. I cannot cook decent macaroni & cheese, no matter how hard I try…. And, I want to be buried with grits and liver, smothered with onions and a long gravy, in my coffin….

Wayne: The banana tree is gorgeous! Thank you for the tour.

IloveJesus99: Thank you for sharing your ride with me. Such a bubbly personality!

If I missed anyone, don’t worry. I’ll find you again!

DAVE’S GARDEN: Priceless!

Well, everyone has pretty much already said everything that needed to be said. I had a great time meeting everyone and hanging out on Saturday. Everyone was so warm, friendly and inviting - a great group of people, to be sure! And oh my gosh, all those plants and all that food!

I look forward to getting together with y'all again in the future. Thanks for having me!
